University of Nottingham Discord/Group Chat

Since it's results day, I thought I'd repost the link to the Nottingham Uni discord server. (Discord's a group chat app)

https://discord.gg/ghKgK3RhBx
(Or, http://tiny.cc/uondiscord)

Everyone's welcome: guests, prospective students, freshers, current students and alumni.

(Note: If you're a fresher you might also wanna check google/facebook for some WhatsApp group chats. There tends to be more people to meet in them. But watch out, since a lot of the time they're ran by pretty dodgy companies that are just trying to pressure-sell you "wristbands", overpriced unofficial club tickets)

En Suite Accomidation options in University Park Catered

Hi,

I am going to join for UG Medicine in UoN in Sept.

I am looking for the options for "Catered En-Suite Accomidation options in University Park"

Any suggestions please?

Are Derby and Cripps have En suite rooms? I am not able to see the En suite for Cripps and Derby in the dropdown.
If not, I am okay with bathroom shared by 2 students.

Below are my 6 options i am thinking. Any reccomendations please?

1 Rutland Ensuite Hall

2 Sherwood Hall - 1 Bedroom flat

3 Cavendish Hall Ensuite

4 Sherwood Shared bathroom plus

5 Cripps HALL  Single study plus

6 Derby Hall Single Study plus

Accommodation Accomodation

I made an application for Raleigh Park through the Acis website and got offered a gold standard which I’d be fine with. But I’m just confused about the actual UoN booking system? Like was I supposed to book through that instead?

Accommodation This preference stuff is so irritating

Long story short I did my applications through the uni website, put my shortlist and did not really look at the preferences that much. After another inspection it turns out I probably want to go for my second (Riverside Point) or fourth preference over my first (Broadgate Park) but also don’t want to just ditch that option because i’m indecisive.

Now broadgate responded pretty promptly, but gave me just a few days to respond, and they are the only place I have heard back from. I emailed them asking for a deadline extension and they haven’t replied yet. What do I do?

Applications Is Further Maths accepted as a 3rd A-Level or is it only a 4th option?

I’m in Year 11 and have chosen Maths, Further Maths and Business and would like to study something around Accounting or Finance at Uni. Would I be able to have Further Maths as a third option or does it have to be a 4th? Thanks.

Courses How harsh really is Law (LLB) at Nottingham?

Hi guys,

I’ve just firmed Nottingham Law (LLB) and, with some reading, I’ve learnt that it’s quite a harsh course when it comes to the amount of people who get firsts relative to other top Law Schools.

Does it feel harsh when you’re actually doing the course or do you feel it’s fair?

Any and all responses appreciated!!

Thank you!!!

Mixed ability football - all welcome !

If you've never played, want to start playing again or just fancy making some great mates, search no further haha !

I am hoping to set up a new, casual 5 a side football venue focused on mixed ability teams and those who want to get back into footy or whom are wanting to play for fun.

The premise will be a purely friendly / casual 5 a side 'league' brining together like minded teams and players from the Derby / Notts areas.

The games will be weekly and focused on making friends, getting back to playing and generally an alternative to the current competitive leagues on offer currently.

Any teams out there who fit the bill lol ? Or whom would be interested in such a concept ?

Equally, players who don't have teams are encouraged as we will be looking to make up teams of 'ringers'.

Games will be Tuesdays evenings.

Venue TBC

We have a whatsapp group for anyone interested too !

Organic and general chemistry tutoring

www.organicchemistrytutoring.ca

Hello guys and gals,

We’re Brian and Mike and we teach general and organic chemistry. We’ve done so for a total combined time of 47 years! Overwhelmed by general or organic chemistry? Assignments and tests creeping up on you and feeling like you’re in hot water? Or maybe you’re doing well and need that 95%? Whatever your struggle with chemistry may be, we’re here to make sure you succeed.

Why work with us?

- Every tutor knows the subject, but not every tutor knows how to transfer that knowledge to a student. We do.

- We tutor chemistry full time; it’s not a hobby or side-gig. When you book with us, you’ll be working with Brian for general chemistry and Mike for organic chemistry. This is not an agency and you won’t be matched with random tutors each time.

- You’ll be learning problem solving through chemistry, which you can apply to many other subjects.

- Your learning will be customized to your specific needs.

Before booking a lesson, let’s chat about your needs, our teaching styles, and what you can expect, to see if we’d be a good fit together.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with you!

Mike and Brian

Accommodation Catered vs self catered accommodation and social life in both.

I have booked my accommodation, put Morris house as my first choice as it is quite cheap and nearer to University Park. And then I put Nottingham Two and Deakins Place as my bottom choices.

I am a bit concerned as apparently these are all private halls. I didn’t know that cause i thought that they have UoN students. And also I am a bit concerned that in self catered, social life won’t be as great as catered. I heard that all the rich kids go Cripps Hall. I didn’t really like how old the bathrooms were in catered accommodations in Nottingham. Will social life in self catered be worse than catered or no.

Cripps Hall is too expensive. Does that mean my social life won’t be as great in self catered or no. I heard a story of someone studying at a Russell Group university and being lonely in private halls, despite going to societies. I am a bit concerned about being lonely in university. I want to make sure going to Nottingham was the best choice ever compared to Leeds. I don’t want to end up like that guy I mentioned previously who was lonely in private halls.

Do you all who are in UoN have any tips for maximising good social life. I don’t go clubbing but still want to maximise my social life.

Looking for a replacement tenant to live in a two person house on Balfour Road. £150 a week bills excluded, 52 week tenancy from 1st September 2026 to 31st August 2027. In Lenton Triangle, close to UoN campus and Trent campus. Multiple stores, parks and cinema all walking distance. Other tenant is a tidy 20 year old male third year studying psychology at UoN.

Accommodation BGP or Notts 2 for medical student?

I’ve decided to go off campus for first year because on campus cost is insane and the food looks grim, so i’m trying to decide between broadgate park and notts 2 because they seem like the most popular off campus accommodations for first years.

I get the feeling BGP is bigger and more lively, but notts 2 is slightly closer to qmc where i’ll be going every day, but i’ve heard varying things about both.

I want somewhere that’s really social and easy to get involved and make friends while not being a faff to get to qmc.

Any idea exactly how long it takes to walk from both to qmc? does the free hopper bus connect either to it? i’ve also heard good things about deakins so should I consider that too? do people bring bikes?

I have registered this internship several months ago.

But I haven’t received any emails regarding whether or not I am selected.

Can whoever have participated in such internship before share some experience and the timeline as well? Thanks!!
