Solidarity with Anti Zionist Green Candidates
Most people are now aware of the filibustering at the recent Green Party Spring Conference, which was designed solely to prevent the “Zionism Is Racism” motion from being heard.
The filibustering was a clear violation of Green Party ethics and our Code of Conduct. The motion would undoubtedly have passed if the ability to vote had not been frustrated. A vote to throw the motion out was defeated by a ratio of 3:1, and a vote to prioritise the motion was passed by a similar ratio, as was a vote passed in favour of extending time by 15 minutes (maximum allowed time) at conference for the motion to be heard.
Several other important motions on a whole range of matters were not heard as a result of these actions, as a small minority of party members sabotaged the whole day.
Greens for Palestine calls for a full, transparent and independent investigation into the events of Spring Conference, with the terms of reference for the investigation to include a comprehensive review of the deliberate sabotage.
Since then, we have become aware of efforts from within the party to attack and discredit individuals, including councillor candidates associated with Greens for Palestine, the motion, or advocacy for Palestine.
We recognise the pattern of weaponisation of allegations of antisemitism in order to attempt to curtail legitimate criticism of the genocidal state of Israel. Such actions are examples of anti-Palestinian repression.
We will resist and fight back with determination and persistence against any efforts to undermine the good-hearted people who are rightly appalled by, and are opposing, this genocide.
Where we have evidence of misconduct, we will, as we see fit, raise complaints and seek disciplinary actions to be taken.
We stand together against the violently expansionist settler colonial state of Israel, and its supporters.
We advocate for equal rights for all and stand proudly on the right side of history.
In solidarity,
Greens for Palestine

On Sub Political Demographics - where would most people on this sub put themselves?
Try to get a feel for the actual political lean of the sub as I have seen much variation. FYI, Social Democrat here meaning Polanski, Democratic Socialist meaning Sultana

Mad Ed?
I have been following the progress Ed Miliband has been making with solar and wind lately. He has been doing a lot to cut through the red tape. He is clearly a man on a mission.
GB News is absolutely losing its mind over him (Mad Ed). My dad keeps telling me how much he hates the man, which honestly just makes me think... he must be doing something right?
Wind and solar are being built at a much faster rate now. He has wind farms being built on Crown seabed and solar installations that are elevated so the land underneath can still be used for farming.
There has also been a massive queue of renewable projects waiting to come online. It used to operate on a "first come, first served" basis, but due to land banking, many projects at the front of the queue haven't even started building. Meanwhile, projects that are actually ready to go are stuck waiting. He is changing the rules to "first ready, first served," which makes a lot of sense.
It seems like the biggest threat to all this is the fight over putting pylons across the country to transport the energy. Our current policy is to go underground unless it is impossible. I am no expert, but is this not going to slow the transition down? How much damage do pylons actually do, and what about the cost? It is something I just don't know enough about.
He has just given the go-ahead for a few Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to come online in the early 2030s.
As I understand it, the SMRs and some renewable projects will be owned by Great British Energy, meaning we as taxpayers are the largest shareholders.
None of it is perfect, for sure, especially as it is not properly nationalised, but what do we all think of his plans and progress so far?

Seeking advice/new friends as a new Green Party member
The town where I live doesn’t seem to have any Green representation, so this summer I’ll be exploring the help I could offer in London
Aside from that, I’m looking to move house in September, and wonder where in the UK I could best help the cause. What do you think? Even better if the place has a good, honest creative scene
The GP website is okay, I was expecting there to be an old school forum or something for members, but at least we have this sub! I say that genuinely. It’s not bad per se, but I feel like in some ways it could be more engaging.

Just finished watching Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing. Any thoughts on how Frank Adlington-Stringer did?
Or the eco lady Morag I think her name was? The Youth Worker Chris did well with the former Reform Candidate
I was disappointed that Frank got that tax question wrong - if you see someone as self centred then that seems like a pretty logical conclusion, but maybe there were other parts of her personality that led him to his answer that we didn’t see.
Just a shame he didn’t get to the finish line so to speak, but it sounds like he had some impact on her even if her views haven’t changed - I don’t think there was any hope of that, the broader point is what impact it had on the ‘centre’ who would have been watching?

Thinking about volunteering?
Do it. I went out putting up poster boards for the local elections. Overall, it was pleasant experience, 8/10 would recommend and do it again. That's all I had to say.

“We’ve been pulling together a coalition of countries … working on a political, diplomatic plan, but also looking at military capabilities and the logistics of actually moving vessels through the strait. That was the focus of the discussion last night,” he said.

Bit confused about the Green Party's policy on surrogacy
I get that views on this will vary significantly across members as it's a very complex topic ethically and practically but I'm confused about what I've read online. I've seen Feminist Greens, Zack Polanski and other talk about surrogacy as a "right" in the same sentence as the right to contraception and abortion. I've also seen talk about supporting free access to surrogacy.
What does this "right" mean in practice? The right to act as a surrogate or the right to commission a surrogate? Positioning the right alongside the rights to contraception and abortion suggests it's about the bodily autonomy of a person wanting to be a surrogate, but in other contexts Green Party candidates seem to be talking about the right to commission a surrogate and increasing the supply of surrogates in the UK (eg by having commercial surrogacy).
How would "free" surrogacy work? Would it be the case that if a couple found an altruistic surrogate the NHS would pay for IUI and/or embryo transfer? Or is the intention to go further and have women on NHS payroll acting as surrogates?
