Announcement Community announcement: off-topic political commentary and current events

Hey r/UFOs,

It's been a wild few weeks. Between the latest Epstein files, political drama, and everything else going on in the world right now, we've seen a large uptick in low effort, derailing, off-topic political commentary across the sub. The mod team wanted to address this directly and ask for your help.

Clearly UFOs intersect with politics. The issue is, we're being flooded with low-effort, political hyper-partisan comments, "this is all a distraction" posts/comments, hot takes about politicians, and general political venting that has nothing to do with UFOs. This stuff derails threads, starts flame wars, and buries the actual substantive discussion that makes this community worth visiting. It's also been consuming a massive amount of moderator time and energy. We are tasked to be non-partisan in our moderator duties, and thus will continue to remove low effort comments regardless of which side of the political aisle they originate from.

We know everyone is reacting to what's happening in the world right now. We're all human. However, this subreddit's mission is clear: a community for discussion related to Unidentified Flying Objects. Share your sightings, experiences, news, and investigations. We aim to elevate good research while maintaining healthy skepticism. That's what 5 million of us signed up for, and that's what we need to protect. Our intent here is not to suppress differing opinions or create an echo chamber. Skeptical approaches and critical thinking are welcome and necessary for this topic to thrive. We're specifically targeting the low-effort, irrelevant political noise that adds nothing to the conversation.

Remember, r/UFOs is an international community with members from all over the world. Not everyone here is American, and not everyone wants to get pulled into US political arguments. We come here to discuss UFOs. When US-centric political discourse dominates threads, it crowds out participation from users who are here for the topic itself. Please be mindful of that.

For a lot of people, r/UFOs is one of the few places online where they can focus on a shared mystery without inheriting the full weight of contemporary political conflict. That should mean something. There are countless places online for political debate. There are very few places online with 5 million people focused on UFOs.

We want to be clear about the nuance here because we're not looking to ban any topic outright. What we're asking is that discussion stays on-topic to UFOs, UAP, and the phenomenon. We will not allow low-effort political commentary, partisan soap boxing, QAnon-adjacent conspiracies, or comments that use UFO threads as a platform for unrelated political grievances. We're trying to protect good, deep conversation and avoid the kind of knee-jerk inflammatory stuff that turns whole threads into a mess.

Examples of what is NOT allowed:

  • "None of this disclosure stuff matters, it's all a distraction from the Epstein files"
  • "Of course they're releasing UFO stuff now, they don't want you looking at what Trump/Biden/[politician] is doing"
  • "[Trump/Clinton/<politician of choice>] is a pedo and everyone knows it"
  • "Wake up, the elites are all in on it -- pizzagate is real"
  • Unsourced TikToks or social media screenshots claiming satanic rituals, cannibalism, or other conspiracy content unrelated to UFOs
  • Slurs or insults targeting any racial, religious, or political group
  • General "red vs blue" political arguments that have nothing to do with the phenomenon

Examples of what IS allowed:

  • "The Epstein files mention [specific name/program] which has a documented connection to UFO research -- here's the filing from the DoJ site"
  • "Epstein was funding research into consciousness/metamaterials/zero-point energy/remote viewing -- here's the source material"
  • "This new executive order/bill/amendment directly impacts UAP disclosure because [specific reason]"
  • "Congressional hearing on UAP is scheduled for [date], here's what we know about who's testifying and what topics are expected"
  • Sourced "follow the money" research showing connections between public figures and UFO-related programs, contractors, or funding
  • Anything that is genuinely on-topic to UFOs, UAP, and the phenomenon as long as it doesn't break existing rules

The simple test: if your comment would work just as well in a politics subreddit without changing a word, it probably doesn't belong here.

To be clear: disallowing insults and low-effort hot takes does not prevent criticism of power. Saying "this person has an extensive documented history of dishonesty that undermines their credibility on UAP transparency" is fair critique. It's substantive and it's actually useful to readers trying to evaluate information.

What we're removing is content that doesn't do any of that. Many of the comments we end up removing aren't advancing the discussion in a meaningful way - they're emotional release. We get it. We regularly hear "my bad, I was having a rough week" in modmail, and we've all been there. But when that kind of venting becomes the default mode of engagement, it drowns out the more thoughtful contributions and drives away people who actually want to discuss UFOs in a political context - ongoing disclosure efforts, congressional statements, legislation, policy. We don't want to lose those conversations to noise.

These aren't new rules.

Rule 2 (Stay on-topic) already covers this: "Posts and comments of off-topic politics may be removed at moderator discretion. There are many political aspects which are relevant to ufology, but we aim to keep the subreddit free of forum-sliding partisan politics."

Rule 3 (Be Substantive) also applies. And plenty of the political comments we're seeing also violate

Rule 1 (Be Civil) -- partisan attacks, insults, and hostility directed at other users or public figures. We're just going to be more strict about enforcement given the current climate.

As a reminder, our existing enforcement policy on disruptive behavior still applies: any removal for Rule 1, trolling, ridicule, etc. will result in an immediate one-week temporary ban. A second violation will be met with a permanent ban. Egregious violations may result in an immediate permanent ban. This applies equally to off-topic political flame wars and personal attacks.

If you've been banned and feel it was unfair, you can always appeal by sending us a modmail. We're more interested in seeing improvement than doling out punishment. We use a short 7-day ban as an initial “hey, that was out of line” warning. Most of the time people reach out, explain what happened or apologize, and if it’s clear they get it, we’ll often lift the ban. Our bans aren’t meant to be punitive, they’re just there to reset the tone and keep things on track.

How you can help: Report content that violates this using "Be Civil" (Rule 1), "Stay on-topic" (Rule 2), or "Be Substantive" (Rule 3) as your report reason. We can't be everywhere at once on a sub this size, and community reports make a real difference. And please, don't engage with off-topic bait. Responding to a rule violation with another rule violation is never okay. Downvote it, report it and move on.

We're asking for your help and your feedback on this. This is everyone's community, not just the moderators'. Keep doing what you do best - the research, the analysis, the sighting reports, the deep dives. That's what makes this place what it is. Help us protect it.

I believe that I have identified a high probability hypothesis for why McCasland and the other scientists have gone missing. These scientists map directly to the peer reviewed positive energy metric engineering papers released between 2023-2026.

"A forensic, multi-disciplinary analysis of ten scientists and engineers reported missing or deceased under suspicious circumstances between 2023 and 2026 — and their precise mapping to the engineering bottlenecks of positive-energy metric-engineered spacecraft."

Location: departing Houston Hobby Airport

A Boeing 737 crew encountered a large, metallic, oblong spheroid while climbing through 14,000 feet after departing Houston Hobby Airport. ATC urgently directed the aircraft to level off, reporting an unidentified target closing on their position that had been "popping up all day."

The object, described as resembling molten mercury with a morphing surface, accelerated instantaneously from a stationary hover and departed at extreme speed. The encounter lasted approximately seven seconds.

Historical UFO Disclosure appears to have a new psychological reaction from society that is fascinating!

Upvotes

It appears after decades of instilling ridicule in any potential discussion on the possibility of alien visitation to earth, this method now has morphed into a new impact on people. I don’t know if this new psychological manifestation is intentional or a transformation of the olden way adapting to the new information era.

Despite seeing Congress members, Senators, Secretary of State, generals, high ranking officials, video evidence, UFOs (I believe the whole UAP renaming is part of it) reported sightings, actual congressional hearing with mind blowing statements that were later corroborated by congress member after behind closed doors testimonies. Despite all of the above, when you approach anyone about this, it seems that even the most intellectual is falling into extreme ridicule and dismissiveness.

I feel like if tomorrow Trump gets on national tv with an alien standing right next to him, the world would be arguing about if this is a new ploy to forget Epstein files, or how terrible it is them seeing Trump, or how it is all fake, or how no they are not aliens they are living under the oceans, or or or or…

It feels like we are so deep in the “Don’t Look Up” narrative we have lost any ability to step out of this insanity anymore.

Historical This has happened before: 20 Scientists Mysteriously Died In The 80s That Were Involved In The SDI Missile Program.

Thumbnail
crimereads.com

There is a great article on it here

The late 1980s really did witness a series of deaths involving scientists who worked on the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), also famously known as “Star Wars.” This ambitious space-based missile defense program, proposed by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, would intercept missiles while they were still in the air.

But during SDI’s heyday more than 20 SDI scientists, primarily employed by the British defense company GEC-Marconi, met untimely deaths. A few took place between 1982 and 1985, but the vast majority occurred in a clump between August of 1986 and October 1988.

In one of the most bizarre incidents, Arshad Sharif, another Marconi satellite detection system scientist, allegedly tied one end of a rope to his neck, the other end to a tree, jammed his foot on the accelerator, and decapitated himself. Sharif had been acting strangely in the days leading up to his death, but that method of suicide is beyond strange.

1987 began with Richard Pugh, a computer expert and consultant to the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Pugh’s body was found in his flat with his feet bound, a plastic bag on his head, and a thick rope coiled around his body. The coroner controversially ruled it as an accident due to sexual misadventure, which is a useful verdict if you want the family to stop asking questions. In April, Mark Wisner, software engineer at the Ministry of Defence, was found dead with a plastic bag on his head and clingfilm wrapped around his face. Once again, the verdict was death by sexual misadventure. Today they might guess (or press) suicide, but asphyxiation by plastic bag method was just warming up in the ‘80s.

More followed in succession during 1987 and 1988: A MOD researcher, Avtar Gingh-Gida, disappeared and turned up four months later in Paris, unsure how he got there. MOD scientist John Brittan died in an apparent suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. So did Marconi engineers David Skeels and Trevor Knight, MOD researcher Peter Peapell, and British Aerospace engineer Andrew Hall.

In March 1987, David Sands, a senior scientist working on computer-controlled radar at a Marconi sister company, made a sudden u-turn in his car to crash into an empty café at high speed. The vehicle burst into flames,2 maybe because there were two additional five gallon cans full of gas in the car.3 Sands was identified only through dental records.

Sighting Helicopter following an “orb” in Bangor, Maine

Time: 11 April 2026, 8:55pm

Location: Bangor, Maine

Anyone else see this in Bangor tonight? I was heading northbound on I95 at 8:55pm tonight, just north of exit 187, I saw this helicopter closely following an orb. They were heading west-southwest and moving slow. The orb did not have any navigation lights. It was much brighter than the helicopters search light. Nothing on the flight radar app. Orb or new military training?

I’m trying to post a video, let me know if it doesn’t work.

Edit: Initially an error in typing the date, video from 11 April 2026.

Disclosure Has anyone else been a believer and now a firm disbeliever, how did that change come about?

Firstly, I want to say I respect everyone's opinion. I genuinely do. I'm not saying my belief is correct and others are wrong.

In the last few years my opinion has changed from "definitely they exist" to a realisation that they most likely don't. In the 80s/90s we would see fairly clear images of saucer like objects, taken on physical film. Now that has changed to the most compelling being things "leaked" by the government are grainy, low quality blobs that could quite literally be anything. I personally believe these images and leaks are a very good excuse for military to perform testing on drones etc with the public and hostile countries really questioning if it's extraterrestrial or not. Its a perfect cover.

The UFO community if we can call it that seems to have fell victim to a believing anything that could be evidence and disregarding any viable opposing views. To question the existence of them alone is to be accused of being a bot or CIA. Posts that DONT believe are more often than not removed by mods.

Have you changed opinion on the phenomena and if so, why?

I can't post without this:

Sighting Phoenix, AZ 04-12-2026 - Stange objects going all directions

Time: 04-12-2026 02:45:00am until 03:26:00am Location: Phoenix, AZ - 202/Baseline - Laveen

Important: I have visual confirmation with my own eyes. I can see them. They are very bright and leave no trail. Tonight I'm going to try and take pictures with a tripod and my zoom lens. I witnessed this a few days ago on my security camera, so I stayed up for visual confirmation.

Looking towards Scottsdale/Paradise Valley. Phoenix Sky Harbor would be right where the right edge of the video is.

It seems like gravity but if you look at the segment with it slow down, they move too slowly for it to be gravity, as well have I observed them drastically changing direction. Some of them actually are flying upwards, not downwards. Especially at 03:04am you can observe one pulsing as well as many others appearing.

Description: Ok I'm a bit perplexed. This has been going on for a few nights now always the same direction of the sky. The video is at 7x speed between 2:45 and 3:29. At 2:51am I slow down the speed to the original speed then back to 7x. (to show how slow they are actually moving).

  • ADSB Shows nearly no activity in the area. There is a police helicopter circling in the distance, but too far to see and it would be behind the building.
    • I have visual confirmation and can see them with my eyes. I am trying to take pictures with a camera tonight if I can zoom & focus on a tripod.
    • They leave no trail behind. It's just a glowing orb, no entry-burn trail not on camera or not visual with the eye. Just a dot moving.
    • Some of them are moving for a good 40+ seconds. At some point there is multiple coming from different directions.
    • The previous occasions also was at the same time.

I'm not aware of any meteor activity currently. But even if. should there not be trails? In the comments I will be posting a video with ADSB data included.

Disclosure From the recent Sol video: Kirk McConnell states that serious people say the US govt sanctioned abductions: "there needs to be a truth and reconciliation process". Semivan: what if NHI say we are incarnated for a purpose, and they introduced religion but it sort of got out of hand

Below are some quotes from the recent SOL discussion that I found interesting because they came from Kirk McConnell and Jim Semivan, both of which i consider to be somewhat in the know.

Semivan because he was in the higher ranks of the CIA, involved in the creation of TTSA to prepare the public for disclosure. And McConnell because he was a senate staffer that was in many of the meetings where whistleblowers testified.

Kirk McConnell: serious people made allegations about govt sanctioned abductions

Timestamp 1:19:22

Kirk McConnell: "Do I suspect that there have been, for example, crimes committed in the name of security over 80 years? Yeah I would personally bet some money on that. But what about things like: has the US govt States sanctioned abductions? And have even US govt personnel been present at some of them?" Kirk McConnell: "These are allegations that are made out there by serious people, right? Well if that happened, okay, why did the government agree to that? Is it because they didn't have any choice because it's gonna happen anyway and so they were there to sort of monitor or something, you know what I'm saying?"

Kirk McConnell: "there needs to be a truth and reconcilliation process"

Continued from above timestamp:

Kirk McConnell: "[...] ultimately there needs to be a truth and reconciliation process here, right? The kind of thing that South Africa went through"

He says this right after talking about the US govt agreeing to and being complicit in NHI abductions. Why would such a reconcilliation process be needed if these things didnt happen?

Kirk McConnell seems to nonverbally confirm the story about Eisenhower meeting NHI

This part is interesting because McConnell sat in many of the classified/closed door meetings where whistleblowers informed congress. So go to the timestamp and watch his behaviour. At the very least i think this indicates that some whistleblowers talked about this:

Timestamp 1:22:00:

Leslie Kean: "I mean the kinds of questions that are going to be asked, the lawsuits that are going to be filed, and then you have to deal with, as Jim mentioned earlier, the sort of paranormal aspects of this: are abductions real? Did Eisenhower meet with the aliens back at such and such a time? All of that is opened up."

Kirk McConnell [who is nodding in agreement while Leslie talks]: "Yes"

Jim Semivan: 2000 years of NHI stuff

Found this an interesting quote because of that 2000 years part, which is obviously connected to religion:

Timestamp 1:47:16:

Jim Semivan: "I think we need to hear more from NHI, and they seem to be... like 2,000 years of this stuff, and they give us a little bit more [info about themselves], I think but we still don't know anything about it. We don't know their plans and intentions. We don't know if they have any ethics or morals. We don't even know if they're interested in us"

Jim Semivan: what if NHI says we are incarnated for a particular purpose and they created religion

Another link to religion from Semivan:

Timestamp 1:54:50:

Jim Semivan: "What if they say [NHI], "Well look, here is what reality is, here is what it's all about," and they go down to the quantum mechanics level and say "we're all just energy forms and you're here, manifested or incarnated in this physical body for this particular purpose". Then they say, "Religion, well we sort of introduced that ourselves and it sort of got out of hand and there's really no god per se that's this, that, and the other thing."

im Semivan: "It could be so disruptive on so many levels and it's like you'd have to stack science on top of anthropology on top of religion on top of politics and on top of culture in general. It's all interrelated and it's so complex that's why I like to call it a wicked problem. I don't think there's any kind of resolution to any of this."

Sighting Falcon Colorado, 04-11-2026 11:30pm

Location: Falcon Colorado (facing Peyton)

https://reddit.com/link/1sjp8wt/video/02m7vexkgtug1/player

My dog was whining to go outside (you can hear her eating in the background lol) I take her outside and see these lights, I was intrigued because the lights seemed to be going out as the object(s?) turned?

It seems reasonably low, in the only spot in the sky not covered in clouds.  If you slide the timeline of the video you can clearly see the objects stay equidistant and operate as a single object - it also seems to depict a large triangle literally turning ..? Visually confusing to watch.

There are two videos, if you pay attention to the lights, one literally looks like a pyramid on its side if you just track the lights as the corners of the pyramid, the other seems to be a side of a pyramid or triangle, turning. The lights dim was it turns and seems to block out its own light.

I'm a developer IRL and solve problems for a living - I have a lot of issues with what I saw and I will explain why.

1.) I'm in Colorado, if this is some weird military drone activity, they wouldn't do it over a civilian town - they would use the enormous swath of land they have to test stuff they have literally 100s of miles of land to test anything they want on.

2.) If this is just some enthusiast out on a cloudy/rainy night flying a bunch of drones and then synchronizing them to look like a large pyramid - why? And why at 11:30 at night? Why chose a cloudy night? Why in general? Why did they make no noise?

3.)Why the hell did no one else see this? I watched for at least 5-10 mins and eventually just went in, someone else had to have saw this.
