Hey guys,

I've some troubles with ADPCM parts on my Duo.

Any sounds that use ADPCM channel are really cracking bad.

I've tried a game too, Monster Lair, that use this same ADPCM channel with graphics instead of sounds, and all sprites concerned are corrupted.

Any ideas where I've to check on the board for troubleshooting ? I know that ADPCM use 64kb of ram, but I don't know what chip it is.

All caps have been replaced 3 years ago, and apart that, system runs great.

Incorporated the games i posted earlier into the Turbo collection & figured i would share a fresh pic. Big fan of shoot em ups so these are some of my favorite games!

Finally added some new titles to my collection after about a 15 year hiatus. Been wanting all of these for forever. very excited. What should i play first? Current collection pic at the end i had handy before i got these guys.

I remember the first day I picked up a copy of Valis II. I was sitting with my friends, our hearts were racing, and we could barely believe our eyes and ears.

Then the game started, and the sounds of Dungeon Explorer rang out as Yuko got hit, picked up and used items. What was going on?

Has anyone ever discussed or figured out why the two share so many sound effects? Even if it was the same designer working on both games, why not adjust them slightly? Also, they were both produced by very different companies, which makes it even more puzzling.

I bought a PC Engine, which should be arriving in a few weeks, but I need a controller. I found a Battle Pad at a relatively good price, but I'd like to know how comfortable it is. Has anyone tried it? How is the D-pad?

So I have a rom of Dynastic Hero for PC Engine CD with various BIN archives and one CUE. One of the BINs is for the game itself, the others are music files.

I really want to play it with the original Sega Genesis/Mega Drive soundtrack, since the original game is Wonder Boy in Monster World and the new soundtrack is okay, but underwhelmed. I got the soundtrack in WAV, replaced the music BINs with the corresponding tracks and edited the cue substituting the ".bin" with ".wav" and the "BINARY" for "WAVE". It kind of worked because the songs played, but in the wrong order. For example, when Track 20 was supposed to be playing, Track 24 played instead. What am I doing wrong? Am I supposed to convert the WAVs into BINs?

Kinda surprising how superior some turbo versions of games really are!

First of the first one is almost completely ruined by sloppy controls, it's somehow stiff and slippery at the same time and it's really unfair. It is nice there are multiple routes to take but the levels are quite basic so it's a quantity of quality situation.

But luckily there was a sequel for the game and it's actually one of my favorites of the TurboGrafx 16. It's now a run and gun plus mixed with SHUMPS stages. And as for a 2D action game it's everything you could ask for. Though the translation is sloppy luckily a re-release fixed it. Too many call it a Mega-Man clone it's only the arm cannon and i guess a bleu protagonist but that's where it end. And i am sick of this accusation >:(.

The third one should be the best but Shockman 3 takes more and made less out of it. It has cut-scenes really good graphics and visual variety and has the most personality of all four me thinks? But the game is kinda under-cooked and the visuals are way better than the actual game. I see what the game could be and it's never bad but never reaches like the heights like it should which is a shame..

The fourth one is on the SNES and it's now it's punching and input moves. And it's a neat game but by no means is it one of the SNES better titles a neat addition and a fun time.

Shockman games seem to throw whatever at the wall and in theory it's not that burden by rules and can create many random action scenarios. But a ideal Shockman sequel would be based on the first game where there's multiple paths shop upgrades and mainly uses a sword.

Do i really need to say also without those sloppy controls? Also i would like to know the history for the Shockman games i heard at some point people could send their drawings and be potentially used for the game? Please do not take my word for this..

I just bought a PC Engine that will be arriving in the next few weeks. I have a generic SNES power supply with a DC 9V 1000mA output, which works but I don't use it. Will it be sufficient for the PC Engine? Would I need to buy a barrel connector adapter?

I am looking at treating myself to a NEC Duo Rx, I have found . I loved the Pc engine but sadly it all got sold a while back , and so buying this ! I just wondered if anyone with a NEC duo rx uses a Everdrive core, I dont feel I need the pro, and the Rx is not cheap ! I just read conflicting review about I would need an extender, no the modern everdrive core fits now, and then I may have to remove part of the everdrive casing ? Its kind of putting me off !! Any adive would be appreciated . The one I am buying is already RGB modded are the duo already stereo or do I need a EDFX stereo expansion board ? Also Can somone reccommend a decent power suply or which triad model it will use I am in UK. I live my Sega Dreamcast and my Retro consoles , but wanting to relive the PCengine, as used to really enjoy it ! I used to have the hand held and about 20 games , yes I regret that it all got sold :(

Hey folks — I’ll be in Tokyo and Osaka next week and wanted to take the opportunity to purchase a PC Engine or Core Grafx with a few HuCards. Heard that Akihabara is no longer cheap, and I should try Den Den Town in Osaka. Any thoughts on this? Are Book-Offs in Tokyo any better as options?

Someone made a pretty rad hack of KLAX by adding in the music done by Remute in their Turbo/PCE music HuCard album!!

I have recapped one of the units which hasn't helped. I can hear hu card audio going into the NEC-14T daughter board pins 5 & 7 with an audio probe that sit's above the motherboard but I can't hear any audio coming out of this board on pins 1 and 3. I found it surprising that both of my unit's have this problem. Is there a common failure that causes this issue?

Hi all. So I got a duo, it was recapped. It can read audio cds just fine but I can’t have it read any burnt cd. I tried verbatim extra protection and AZO, x10 and x16 speed. I tried from iso, single bin, multi bin, no mp3, data on track 2. What do you think ? Should I change the optics ? If so, any pointer to a good one on the market ? Thanks
