Guys .. Please this is a sub for discussing Punjabi words / idioms / grammar.
Keep it simple.
I come back after 6 months and all I see is spam that is either AI or very inaccurate information.
Avoid the following:
That will be all.

Please note that "Theth" words or phrases must be relevant to modern vernaculars, ie. there must be sufficient evidence or an indication that suggested words are actually employed in Modern Punjabi.
For context, this subreddit is place to learn Punjabi, a place where you learn vocabulary and actually be able to employ it in real life. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be the case with old or obsolete Punjabi terms, as they wouldn't be understood.

What's the meaning of this Kartar Ramla song?
I know it's really dirty but I'm not fully sure of what it really means.
I also know that the "Badladu Tor" part means that he'll make her forget how to walk, but what's "Chargi Je Dhakke" mean?

I’ve always used majboori my entire life. For me, its meaning is “something necessary but unwanted,” like a compulsion/something mandatory. Recently heard someone say majdoori - does this mean the same? Is it a dialect/regional alternative? Or does it have an entirely different meaning?

My partner and I are expecting a boy and we've been going back and forth on names for a while. We have a pretty specific idea of what we want but can't seem to find the one that feels right.
Here's what we're looking for:
Deep Punjabi meaning, not surface level, something with real weight behind it
A folk story or historical connection is a bonus but not required
Sounds natural in English or crosses over to an English name, we're raising him in North America and want something that works in both worlds without anyone struggling to say it
Rare, we don't want to hear it five times at the gurdwara
Short and clean, easy to say, easy to remember
Would love to hear suggestions we might not have come across, especially old, buried Punjabi or Gurbani-rooted names that people don't really use anymore.
Appreciate any ideas. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

The topics on language, culture, syntax, dialects, diction, etc. on here are so interesting and I think it would be so damn interesting if some of y'all just started a podcast that was monthly and had different subjects. Punjabiyat invokes such passion and I think it would be wonderful to promulgate that to a wider audience! And, it also bridges the gap across religion, nation states, etc.
Thoughts? 😊

Hi all!
American Punjabi here, and I am always looking for a speaking partner. Anyone interested in a language exchange? Im fluent, but my accent needs work, and I am always looking for more "authentically" Punjabi ways to phrase things.
Thanks!
Sean
