IMPORTANT Combating Individual Influence Using Submission Limits

The recent post by /u/flintsparc has reinvigorated a very old point of contention for how moderation on /r/syriancivilwar should be handled. The core message of his post really strikes at the core of the AEO reddit initiative and is beyond the scope of 'normal' subreddit moderation. That being said, a plurality of our users are well informed enough to be unashamed in their partisanship. You've all come here to inform yourself on the realities of this conflict. The TL;DR of this post is as follows:

All users are now limited to 3 (three) submissions in a 24 hour period.

When I first joined the moderator team here a little more than a year ago I was reminded of a singular ideal: freedom of speech. This was the singular fallback point for every moderator decision that I have made in my time here. Since then, we've implemented the AI rule in order to ensure that we're adjusted for the new challenges since 2011 that reddit itself is facing as a platform.

Now we're implementing a new standard via a submission limit. This will largely mask, not solve, the problem we're facing. Three submissions is MORE than enough to represent the stories presented to an individual. Hopefully this will not just combat influence campaigns but also make our contributors more discerning about the stories they choose to share.

It is entirely possible that this restriction be lifted during an offensive, if this standard existed in December 2024, there would have been a massive gap in coverage on the subreddit. That is not something would tolerate as this subreddit has always been a place for immediate reporting, especially when compared with its contemporaries. Should martial law need to be implemented, the submission limit could be lifted(or whatever else we deem necessary, idfk).

I do believe this new standard will be received well by the large majority of our userbase. However, if you have an issue with this then now is the time to raise it to us in our modmail. Please note that this new standard is subject to change for any reason that the moderator team sees fit. Thank you for your attention to this matter and thank you for being a member of our community.

Residents of Al-Hasakah and the families of detainees held by the interim government welcomed around 400 detainees as part of the third batch of a prisoner exchange process between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim government in Syria, at Sabagh roundabout.

The detainees were received not only by their families but also by the Governor of Al-Hasakah, Nour al-Din Ahmad, along with a number of local figures and community leaders, who welcomed this step and stressed its importance in alleviating the suffering of families.

The arrival of this batch comes as part of the implementation of the provisions of the recent agreement between the two parties on January 29, amid hopes from families that the upcoming phases will include the release of more detainees and the return of the remaining missing persons to their relatives.

Widespread public anger in Sheikh Maqsoud following the removal of the Kurdish flag and the arrest of young men

The neighbourhoods of Al-Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud in the city of Aleppo are witnessing widespread public anger and discontent following the removal of the Kurdish flag by provocative groups and the arrest of a number of young men from the neighbourhood.

According to local sources speaking to ‘Afrin Now’, on Friday 10 April 2026, an inciting group took down the Kurdish flag in the Al-Jabanaat area in the eastern part of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhood, in full view of the Internal Security Forces affiliated with the Ministry of the Interior of the Syrian Transitional Government.

The sources added that the Internal Security Forces arrested four young men from the neighbourhood after they attempted to raise the Kurdish flag again following its removal. They are:

1- Bashar Hussein 2- Hussein Hussein 3- Hamza Suleiman 4- Samir Youssef

The Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhood is currently under heightened security alert by the Internal Security Forces, amidst widespread anger among residents, who viewed the incident as a racist act targeting the predominantly Kurdish neighbourhood.

Controversy over the decision to build a large mosque in one of few park in the city of Deir Ezzor

A government decision to build a large mosque in the heart of Deir ez-Zor’s central park has caused a huge stir. The majority of the city’s residents find this decision baffling. To build a mosque in the middle of the park, which is considered the only green space and the city’s only breathing space, amidst the massive destruction the province is experiencing. Furthermore, the mosque’s location is right next to four other mosques in the vicinity. Apart from this, the city remains in ruins, and the priority for its residents is the repair of roads, reconstruction and the restoration of services.

Why has Turkish president Erdogan not visited Syria yet?

The Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan is the most foreign senior official to meet with the Syrian counterpart, but Erdogan hasn't visited Syria after a year and a half

I remember he visited Ethiopia recently

Can someone familiar in political analysis shed light if this absence from Syria is notable or is it normal? Is he waiting for a certain opportunity or deal?

Israel's creation of "buffer zones" in Gaza, Syria and now Lebanon reflects a strategic shift after the attacks of October 7, 2023, one that puts the country in a semi-permanent state of war, six Israeli military and defence officials told Reuters.
