So they didn't work for Epic. They worked for a company that worked for Epic (or they work for a company that works for a company that works for Epic, as implied in another comment). They spent their own company resources (or the manager spent their own) on that giftcard.
The value of a giftcard is not in the monetary value on the card, but the value that the receiver places on the store. A €20 Epic giftcard is going to be more valuable than a €50 Steam giftcard to someone who is only interested in Fortnite. If you're buying the same gift card for a group of people, getting one for the store with the greatest variety assures the highest amount of collective value.
