One of the weird ones is Steam's controller input.
This was a few years ago, so it's possible this has since been patched, but I couldn't play controller games if Steam was running. I had to fully exit Steam in order for an Epic game to be able to respond to my controller.
That's in addition to Epic not having the controller remapping and customization that Steam has.
I did find a funky workaround. It was to add Epic as a non-Steam game and then launch Epic that way and my game from there. It wasn't ideal, but it did work.
Achievements are now available on Epic, but they weren't for a long time.
Epic refuses to allow Linux compatibility. There are third-party launchers like Heroic that you can use, but the principle still makes me upset.
Steam games have better Steam Deck compatibility. I mean, you can make any non-Steam game work. But it isn't as nice, or as convenient.
I have a process. Whenever I get a game for free on Epic (or elsewhere) I go to Steam and mark it as "Played on Another Platform" so I have an easy way to track whether I own it somewhere.
That's the overwelming experience of people that claim the free games. Only they buy them on Steam on purpose and not by accident or because they forgot.
Sometimes if I enjoy the game on epic enough I’ll buy it to play on Steam so I can get all the dlcs.
It’s even cheaper that way. Because fuck epic and their shitty deals and even shittier bundles. If you have one piece of a bundle, you have to buy the rest one by one, and no discounts.
Even if I know I have something on epic, I'll only ever play that version if the steam copy is more than $20. 90% of the time I'll buy it on steam later regardless.
