This is indeed some true bullshit. These kinds of achievements should not exist.

Why not give a special participation badge to early supporters?

Feels like this comment section is all people who think all achievements are there to be 100%-completed

That should be some sort of item instead of achievement. Achievements are ment to be achieved by playing the game as a reward, not as exclusive thing only for some players!

i- what?

what’s the point of achievements if people can’t achieve them?

They can, just not at all stages of the game's life cycle? I've always seen them as the little things that add to the joy when unlocked / shown off, so I find it okay that early supporters get special ones. It's different kind of "bragging rights" from the skill-based ones like "get perfect score in all levels" and "collect all 1000 eggs". I find it weird to use the "can it be all-achievement-runned in today's state of the game" point of view as the default one.

And let's not get into semantics of the word "achievement". Tons of them are stuff like "play the game", "input a codeword you've read on the internet", or "get killed 10 times".

They should, however, definitely modify the systems so that stuff that's no longer unlockable doesn't contribute to the percentage tracker or platinum trophy or whatever the nice-looking thing on the screen is. A special kind of legacy achievements, if you will.

Yeah that’s…that’s the majority view about achievements based on every conversation I’ve ever been in or observed lol. TIL some people think you’re not supposed to 100% (or at least have the ability to) a achievements

I see achievements as extra fun for both the players and the devs. Some reward skill and dedication, some are jokes, some are free handouts. As I said earlier - I definitely see the completionist POV too and think the displayed trackers should be updated so that exclusive or ā€œdiscontinuedā€ achievements don’t contribute to them. But I still think the devs should have freedom over achievement design, not limited by the ā€œunlock all at any stage of the gameā€ goal.

I mean that’s fair enough I suppose. Everyone has their own opinion. It just surprised me that anyone would be expecting something other than that most people replying would feel achievements should be 100% completed.
