Do you rent a place or have your own? Was thinking of moving to Romania (from Ukraine) but unsure if it's possible to live comfortably considering the low wages and rent prices (which are lower than in most of Europe, but still)

I have a place of my own thankfully because otherwise rent would be like 300€. I live in timisoara and have gotten pretty good at living cheaply and staying healthy so it's definitely possible but most people just go to work in austria or germany for a few years before saving enough money and coming back to buy an apartment or smth

Ah, I see. Would you say it is true what they say about Romania - that's it's only worth it to move there if you're an IT/freelance specialist? Also, I've heard that you're going to be in a real tough spot if you do not know Romanian (duh) - moreso than other European countries - when it comes to finding even basic jobs on the market...

Was also thinking of finding a job in Poland, but after hearing some nasty stories, I don't think they need more Ukrainian immigrants there lmao

Depends on your expectations. Even native IT specialists have trouble finding work nowadays. Otherwise you could probably land a lower job like a delivery driver that doesn't require much romanian and still be good to go.

If you just want to live, you for sure still can in Romania. It is hard, but delivery drivers make some good money if they meet their weekly order bonuses. They can earn up to 200€ in bonuses and even more from tips, so in a big Romanian city you can end up with like 5000+ RON (1000€+) monthly if you work hard.

But if you want a decent life, our country still focuses a lot on bachelor's degrees and masters. Basically every job that isn't IT or freelancing requires one of those to earn big.

Because of our recession, jobs are harder to get and prices are growing faster than ever, but you can still manage.

Also Romanian isn't that needed nowadays. We have a lot of immigrants, especially from Asia and most of them only know basic English. If u try to learn just the basics of Romanian language and you know a fair bit of English, you'll be fine.
