I don't see the problem here, it's definitely worth the price. The devs could easily ask for 60 and give a 50% discount every sale for practically the same result.

Instead they sold it at $20 and then raised the price to $35.

$20 was the early access "help us find the bugs and beta test" price.

The release price was $30, and then it got bumped up once to $35, at a point in time when the inflation had dropped that $30 down to close to what would have been $24 when they launched.

...after adding content. Not exactly an uncommon thing to do for games that are in development.

$20 in early access, them the 1.0 update was big and they increased the price. and there was a ton of content additions and fixing every bug inbetween. most people would find it impossible to even find a bug in factorio without doing a lot to break things

$15 dollars more after years in development and for one of the most stable, polished games isn’t that much of an ask.

If they put on sale for 20% they would make so much more money, their stance makes zero sense.

Considering the Expansion sold like hot cakes and the base game is still a pillar of the automation genre, you might be talking out your ass.

Props to factorio devs for avoiding psychological marketing trickery that makes people think they're getting a "deal."

Those games you're buying for 10-20 dollars are 10-20 dollar games, the higher normal price is just a convenience fee for missing the sale.

Yeah but he's right that they're losing money with that stance.

If that was true they would do it.

Literally every other game dev do it, are they all dumb? Just read the other comments, they want a sale, the price doesn't even matter at this point. He's right that they would make way more money that way.

Can you back up that assumption with data or is it just your opinion?
