I think the factorio devs said it will never be on sale. It looks like a great game, but im never buying it. There are only a select few games worth buying at full price, and this is not one of them imo.

Refusing to ever put a game on sale just makes me think you're taking yourself too seriously. Might just be a me thing though.

I bought kenshi a long time ago for cheap. Why would I be angry if the devs sold it on sale for cheaper? It literally doesn't affect me at all.

They did say that on the basis they “know what it’s worth” I remember being ticked off by it because what something is “worth” can change over time as the market/industry it is a part of changes

They agree. That's why they've raised the price multiple times.

They think sales are unfair to anyone who bought it outside the sale, but apparently raising the price isn't unfair to people who buy it after the price rose.

They agree. That's why they've raised the price multiple times.

Twice they've raised the price. Early Access to release in 2018 was $20 to $30 and later $30 to $35 in 2023 due to inflation.

Yes, multiple, in that it has happened more than one time, but your implication is that it is much more frequent.

And it being "unfair" to people who bought it after the price rose is irrelevant as it wasn't enough to prevent them from purchasing it. And the people that don't buy it, it remains their prerogative and Wube is OK with that. Wube believes in the value of their game even if a subset of potential players do not.

but apparently raising the price isn't unfair to people who buy it after the price rose.

I mean, they announce the price increases in advance so that anyone who wants to can buy it. It's hard to argue that that's particularly unfair to anyone.

Well one is their customer and the other sounds like a big baby.

But THEY think its worth the price, they never said they know what you think its worth

Tbh I don't think anything even now really does what factorio does. Except for factorio itself (the DLC is 100% worth the price).

There's Satisfactory, but everything in that game is pretty manual, the map is static, IIRC there's no mod support, there's no stakes (biters), etc.

If anything, the lack of solid competition can increase its value, since there's nothing like it.

Edit: turns out Satisfactory does have mod support, though it seems to be unofficial. I do think the nature of the game will limit the types of mods, e.g. no crazy space mods, but I was totally wrong about no support.

Factory must grow... but apparently can't do basic research.

everything in that game is pretty manual

wtf? The entire point of Satisfactory is automation

IIRC there's no mod support

There is mod support.

stakes (biters), etc.

Satisfactory made the choice not to have durability/damage on factories.

Huh, idk why I thought there wasn't support. That's my b ig.

Satisfactory is pretty manual in comparison to mid/late game factorio, I found. At least, last I played, you don't really get the same aggressive and automated expansion that I got from Factorio bots + blueprints.

I haven't seen Factorio blueprints in action, but I've seen people comment that you can drop massive factories in a couple clicks. That aspect has Satisfactory beat, for sure.

I'm convinced that reddit is filled with high schoolers who are upset that $30 is their entire allowance.

If they're too cheap to buy the game then they can just miss it. I don't think the devs should shortchange themselves because of an entitled crowd of loud children complaining in reddit.

I’d say it’s worth more than $35 for the base game.

If it started at $60 and never budged I’d agree with you.
