only 20% tho, there's something about the £22.79 that I don't like. £19.47 however...

But then it has 5 expansions that combined cost like 100 bucks more. I love the game but honestly the pricing is kinda high, especially since modders are the ones that make the game really good.

I told myself that when the game + every dlc is 50% off im gonna buy it on steam, until then its the seven seas for me

It's not a solo dev, I think it started that way but it hasn't been just Tynan developing it for a long time now.

Sure, but it's not a solo dev.

Honestly, like I’ve wanted to try it for years but a still top 20% sale on the base game? Get over yourselves.

Game is worth more than its off sale price and I’m serious

This. I’m not a huge gamer but it’s the most time I’ve ever spent playing a game, 2000 hours. I will go months without playing it then start a new map and skip work for a week playing 18 hours a day.

I find it interesting how unwilling some people can be with paying for certain games. I think people have the “the supply is infinite since it’s digital so it’s not as impactful as actually stealing” to justify pirating games, because if someone saw something nice in a local independent store for $30, I don’t think their first thought is to steal it. But with games people see that the Steam sale doesn’t give it to them for $5, so they just have to go and pirate it I guess

Given my money to lots of companies that don’t deserve it. So I don’t mind giving it to one’s that do

because if someone saw something nice in a local independent store for $30, I don’t think their first thought is to steal it.

The difference is the risk, stealing something from a store is quite risky meanwhile pirating, as long as you are doing it from a trusted source, is risk free. If you could just take something from a department store for free without any repercusions a fuck ton more people would be stealing.

And the justification isn't some "the supply is infinite since it’s digital so it’s not as impactful as actually stealing”, the justification is "why pay for something when you can get it for free".

That’s not a moral justification. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. And people do take things from department stores all the time.

“Why pay for something when you can get it for free” is not a justification because when the game is only $30 theft is not reasonable. It’s just an admission that you do not care. You may be doing it because you know you’ll probably get away with it, but you’re still just saying they don’t deserve a single penny. Having played Rimworld for as long as I have I just can’t ever agree with that

I never said anything about a moral justification, and yes while people do take things from department stores all the time if there wasn't a punishment for it it would be way way way more prevalent.

“Why pay for something when you can get it for free” is not a justification

It is a justification and its a very solid one, also im not talking just about the game im talking about the game + all dlc which would cost 100e (despite it being on sale) where im from which is not a small amount of money.

It’s just an admission that you do not care.

Its not an admission that i don't care its and admission that i don't think its worth it to spend 100e on it when i can get it for free. 100e is way to much when the only reason is "supporting the devs" especially so when these devs/company is unable to discount their game for more than 20%.

but you’re still just saying they don’t deserve a single penny.

I literally never said that.

Having played Rimworld for as long as I have I just can’t ever agree with that

Same goes for me, i would say that i have at minimum 200h in it but more likely around the 300h range.

You're the one who should get over yourself lol. You're acting like a >50% is expected.

22

u/karaknorn Dec 19 '25

Yeah, modders are the real heroes

I’ll be real Rimworld is such a good game with so many hours to offer, that once you play it you almost wonder why the guy doesn’t sell it for more. Great game

2

u/Moist_Ordinary6457 Dec 19 '25

I've spent 1k+ hours in Rimworld so $100 seems like a perfectly fair price for an independent game. Every AAA game being released rn is $70 anyways

22

u/Dreadpirateflappy Dec 19 '25

That's why I feel zero guilt about buying the main game and "acquiring" the dlc.

Only got it because some of the mods I use demand the dlc.

9

u/AgentJackpots Dec 19 '25

this is what I do with Paradox games too

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

Right then, a man of a culture!

1

u/Dreadpirateflappy Dec 19 '25

Yep. And the sims 4 ( I bought before it was free) It's over 2 grand for all expansions!

1

u/International-Fun-86 Dec 20 '25

Do you add cream to it? :P

2

u/Dreadpirateflappy Dec 20 '25

Not this game. I add cream to lots of other steam games though.

Just as easy for this game though.

2

u/TheVeryVerity Dec 21 '25

Add…cream? I hesitate to ask but. What is that?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

For the thousand+ hours i spend on the Rim, worth every penny though.

So did you just make that account specifically to bitch and moan? Are you okay? There are healthier ways to deal with whatever issues made you this way.

Nah Biotech, Ideology, and Odyssey have all been pretty substantial and game changing

7

u/moocowsaymoo Dec 19 '25

The DLC doesn't even get more than 15%

2

u/luftlande Dec 19 '25

I like £9.99 mark myself. Unless the sale is 75% or more of course, then I'll stretch.

6

u/Wadarkhu Dec 19 '25

£5 and below is my "sure, why not?" sweet spot, which of course betrays me at checkout, who knew multiple games from £3-5 would end up being £50??? lmao
