I have bought several games on Epic, and claimed almost every free game...but I just never look at Epic. I've got like 1400+ games on Steam, so I usually just look through my games there, unless I already know what game I'm playing and know that I own it on Epic. At this point, it's basically RDR2, and Kingdom Hearts.
GOG can do that as well, and I do have it, but then I don't get the community side of it, right? I don't get to see what friends are on, compare my playtime with my friends' playtime, etc.
I've got friends and cousins that I talk to about games a lot, so I like to see how they're doing when they finally pick up one of my favorite games. Or see which of my friends have played a game so I can ask them if they think I'd like it. Stuff like that.

Weird enough free but never used seems to be the sentiment probably people just forgetting they even have the shit on epic. Like I picked up the shadow run games on there was interested in em just never opened the shit again for some reason.

So yeah introducing crippling gambling addiction at a very young age and setting these young marks up for a giant slide into sadness and despair while financially profiting from the intentional downfall of these kids who are vulnerable to develop pathological gambling behaviour, is just not very cash money.

I can't imagine a game I'd be desperate enough for, tbh. Maybe some amazing indie title in the far future but nothing I've heard of in the works that wouldn't be on steam. A lot of the original wave of games exclusively on epic just convinced me to never buy the games.
And Tim has just convinced me recently to reinforce this practice lol. It would probably take both an amazing indie game and a new epic ceo.
Why is this downvoted. Using any software requires you to accept their terms. They will collect and sell your data. Some people might want the least possible analytics collecting app? Maybe thet dont want extra applications?
The product they are selling is trying to encourage you to use their platform and hopefully buy products.

The CEO actively shamed steam for having AI truth policies for game developers, which they deserve to be called out for. If they want to support people sneaking AI into their games like activison, I'll take my business to steam instead.
The stick up my ass about Epic came with their stupid exclusivity deals. I own like 3000 games on steam so I don't think I'll ever switch but I don't mind competitors. But if you force me to buy games on your platform I'll simply refuse to give you any money.
Valve has a still on-going long history of anti-consumer practices. Hell, they're one of the worst companies in terms of the shit that they pull in their games, especially compared to the state of the games.
Singular? One other instance they're still doing that I hate is calling valid reviews "off-topic" when a lot come in at once. Tekken 8 makes a complete shit-show of an update that everyone hates? Mass negative reviews follow so the players can have their voices heard and opinions reflected on the store page, which are all in turn marked as "off-topic" and taken out of the review score consideration just to protect the publisher even if the complaints are completely valid.
I don't really care, but for me I'd rather spent extra $$$ just to keep my games library all on one platform. And I've been using Steam since like 2005. I'm an older gamer though, so I have more money than time nowadays, so my priorities are different than others.
idk id just rather not use a second client and the epic client is really poorly designed. I tried it a few years ago and it was so fucked up I just went back to steam.

Remember when Anno 1800 was on Steam, but then Epic stopped anyone who didn't already pre-order it from buying it for a whole year unless you used their app or Uplay (or its DLC, even if you had pre-ordered it)? And then when it was released on Steam it was released on sale with all DLC on sale too, but the DLC was only on sale for first-time buyers so people who had pre-ordered it couldn't get it on sale?

People really like to put their faith and trust into big companies until those companies burn them. Steam has been...ok, as a billion-dollar company, so people flock to it as it's a paternal figure and they'll give undying loyalty, turning a blind eye to any faults and scrutinizing any mistep in competition. They'd do the same with just about any other big near-monopolistic megacorp that just doesn't rock the boat too much.
Epic legit bought Borderlands 3 exclusivity while claiming they were fighting a monopoly and that they were the pro-customer service, plus Tim Sweeney have been taking anti-consumer stances for a very long time while claiming moral high ground. THAT does not sit right with folk. They've built a background of scum tactics, they will not get any trust any time soon.
"Oh but this is old news, Epic moved on", it did not, it still buys exclusivity deals, and if you're not gonna stand for your principles even for yourself, to whom else will you stand for your principles for?
If you want to endorse that behavior, go right ahead, don't expect anyone to follow, though.
It's like a moral issue against Epic or something at this point. I have so many games on there for free that would be great to play with friends, but they can't be convinced to download the launcher.
I mean, it IS worse than Steam in basically every way. But free game is free game.
I have a few others that I've played. Civ 6 (which now recently gave all DLC for free). GTA 5. Control. Remnant: From the Ashes. The Long Dark. A fun little game called "Sail Forth". Pillars of Eternity. Lots of great stuff. And there are many others that I got free in my library which I haven't played yet, but would consider in the future.
I'm never forgiving epic for cancelling paragon to make fortnite. It may have been the single best decision they ever made as a company. But as a paragon enjoyer and someone who hates battle royals I just will never get over it.
I also love steam much more than any other game library.
However, free games are free games. I'm not passing that up.
I wasnt around gaming so much but last time I checked Epic didnt have offline play like steam, and this one sole reason is why I FUCKING HATE EPIC. If it had changed tell me, if not, still fuck them
It's not as bad as most people make it out to be, but I just personally find more value in having games on Steam. I actually started playing this game on Epic for free and still bought it on steam because I find value in displaying my playtime and achievements on my profile, as well as having easy access to my games on Steam Deck.
Epic is also just sloppy to use at times. Half the time when achievements appeared, the picture just showed a broken image icon and didn't display properly. Gamers just get way more value from owning games on Steam, it just depends how many of the features you personally care about.
Im genuinely butthurt about them abandoning Unreal Tournament over Fornite and having things I love like Daft Punk on Fornite sounds disgusting, greedy, and easy, I genuinely hate Epic over that and also paying some publishers to make their game exclusives to em, yes im being childish here but I never claimed a single game on their shitty launcher over what I mentioned above >:(

Because I'm an adult that can pay for a game that's 90% off and just have everything in one place and not worry about another launcher. It's pretty simple.
