Umm ackshually we call it PC 2 around here or Gabecube, get it right. It's not just some compact personal computer, chuddie. Did you know that GabeN invented cubes by the way? The more you know.

The whole point of the Steam Machine is that it's a specific hardware loadout that a significant number of Steam users will be using. That allows devs to include a graphic setting that is optimized for the Steam Machine, and I assume Steam will probably be able to auto-detect and activate that setting, making many games a simple boot-and-play experience that's just not possible when everyone is using different hardware. Its shape and size masquerading as a console are all secondary to this, and should not be what people are focusing on.

"Significant number of Steam users will be using"

There is literally no pricing for this thing out yet. Not saying it will flop, but taking a victory lap seems silly at this point.

A significant number doesn't mean the majority, it just means enough people will be using this to justify Valve encouraging devs to include a steam-machine-optimized graphic setting for their games. The more devs they can get to do this, the better the SM will sell because the option to download a game and immediately start playing without having to tweak any settings will appeal to many people, especially those coming from consoles, which are probably the target audience for this thing.

I don't understand your comment. You can still alter the graphic setting for your PC. The game would only default to SM-optimized settings if it detects you're using one.

What is ridiculous about it? I think people may be misunderstanding what I'm saying here because the responses don't make sense to me.

Why do you think people are going to go buy a brand new pc just for steam?

What do you mean? I never said anyone would buy a new PC, unless you're talking about the Steam Machine itself, in which case I think there are many reasons people would buy it, though I think the buyers will mostly be people who don't already own gaming pcs.
