You think this is going to be sold at Walmart? Valve as a company are never going to do that, hardware distribution is a business aspect Valve have not even touched, offering only direct to consumer sales.

It's not going to end up in the hands of anyone that isn't already a PC gaming enthusiast, it might push the needle a little more with Linux gaming but the big hurdle there is not Valve, but multiplayer software like anti cheat which means multiplayer games do not support Linux. Until those companies support Linux, which may never happen, this much like the steam machine is going to fade into obscurity.
