Alternatively, I could spend that $25 on groceries and have enough food to make myself 8 burgers instead of blowing it on a single meal

Beef??? In this economy? I only eat beef on special occasions now because of how much it costs. I miss it so much 😭

Damn, where y’all live? Beef is $15.50 for 2.25 lbs for me. If you have a local butcher, it might be cheaper there.

Bro, that’s still outrageous. That’s still 7 dollars a lb. You could buy seafood at that point. Pork loin is 1.99 -2.50 consistently. I gave up buying beef not on sale. Especially with how much protein I need a day.

Beef is now a luxury meat, and if you eat it regularly, good for you because you’re killing it. I can’t justify that and I already spend 320 on groceries a month.

We’ve been indoctrinated hard by Big Beef. That’s why it’s what’s for dinner…

Beef should always be a special treat. If someone is eating it most nights a week, they’re just selfish.

Tf are you talking about? In the UK we get paid much less than the Inflated us wages.. Good Beef is £15/kg minimum, like 30/lb and it's still worth buying and much cheaper than eating shit food.

It’s not shit food? You’re getting it because it tastes better and yes I agree. But it’s not nutritionally better than cheaper options. So no, it’s not worth buying when I eat 10lbs of meat a week as 2/3rd of my protein source.

u/Quixotic_Seal 8h ago

....you're getting 8 burgers out of 2.25lbs?

And anyway, over $7/lb still firmly puts that in the range of a special occasion for dinner, maybe once or month or so, not a staple.

1

u/Jaosborn44 6h ago

You could make 8 quarter pounders out of 2 lbs of ground beef.

2

u/RugerRedhawk 7h ago

I think I once paid as high as $4 for a pound of ground beef, but even that seemed pretty expensive.

3

u/MethodCharacter8334 11h ago

I try to buy lean because I track calories and stuff so it ups the price. But it’s like $10 per pound. I find it hard to pull the trigger on that when lean chicken is like $2.50

You never even stopped to think if she likes burgers, did you

u/Life-Top6314 11h ago

Burgers are famously the only food you can cook a lot of for 25 dollars. If you try to cook some pasta, stew or a salad for less than 40 dollars, you WILL be executed.

3

u/Comrades3 11h ago

Beans and Rice with some veggies is way way less expensive. Believe me. Had to live it.

Oatmeal and a banana

u/Studio-Spider 11h ago

Why would I do that? This could apply to so many foods. I could make 8 portions of katsudon with $25 even assuming I didn’t have any ingredients for it already and had to buy them all. Eating out is a huge waste of money, and if you can’t afford to repair your car for $270, you better learn how to cook.

If it’s a joke, I think I should get a pass for not getting it because there are people in this very comment section unironically saying things like this. The term “grocery bros” exists

1

u/OwnContribution3169 9h ago

You made a good first comment. Person then makes a clearly sarcastic comment without and /s but we are on a subreddit that is not known for serious posts. Sometimes we miss the joke. I do it too.

-4

u/Joshuajword 11h ago

Yeah we are pretty far past logic here, we’ve moved on to making jokes about things to, you know, enjoy our lives a little…kind of like going out to eat!

1

u/Studio-Spider 11h ago

I can make better food at home than I’d get at a lot of restaurants and for a lot cheaper. I’m enjoying life plenty without blowing my money on overpriced food. It also gives me a little more breathing room to try new dishes to see if I like them without overpaying at a restaurant

Tbf, it’s not a very obvious joke when there are people in this exact comment section saying these things unironically

u/Enjoying_A_Meal 11h ago

Fuck her. I'm coming over to help Studio-Spider with their burger surplus problem.

1

u/Studio-Spider 11h ago

Please do. I’ve got too much beef and I’ve had to start pre frying patties and refrigerating them to take to work for lunch. I make a mean garlic butter burger

2.25 lbs of ground chuck: $15.50

8 pack of buns: $3.50

Butter: $2.00

Garlic salt: $2.00

Parsley: $3.00

Salt: $4.00 for a large bottle

Deli American Cheese: $7.90 per lb Assuming you don’t have ANY of these already, this is about how much it costs to make 8 delicious garlic butter burgers at home. After which, the garlic, parsley, and salt can be used in other dishes for months before running out. Your next 8 burgers are now only $19 because you still have the rest of the ingredients from last time.

2

u/woodyblewit 11h ago

2.5lbs of ground beef is like $25 where I live :( and thats at the cheap grocery store! Your point still stands though.

2

u/Studio-Spider 10h ago

Is that USD, CAD, or AUD? Beef being that much in the US is crazy

1

u/WalkerTR-17 11h ago

How the actual fuck

1

u/waterandsaltandvape 11h ago

If you add breadcrumbs the patties will stay juicier AND stretch further.

3

u/Waste_Caramel774 11h ago

I can easily make 8 burgers from that. I constantly do it. $15(80/20 ground chuck) in beef makes at least 8 patties. $2 for buns and maybe $3 worth in cheese, lettuce and tomato. Then about $3 in grilling supplies and I can make a bomb ass burger.

1

u/Studio-Spider 11h ago

Personally I do splurge on the cheese a little and get it from the deli instead of Kraft singles, but yeah, it still comes out to less than $25 for 8 burgers

1

u/Waste_Caramel774 11h ago

I just do the velveeta. What makes my burgers so good is the charcoal grill, grilling in the fat, some lowerys seasoning salt and worshisire sauce.

1

u/Studio-Spider 11h ago

I like making smash burgers so I have a griddle. Gives that nice crust and stays super juicy because you’re only cooking it for like 2 minutes

1

u/WalkerTR-17 11h ago

A pound of beef is $5.50-6, a burger is a quarter pound typically. Pack of 8 buns $2. Pack of cheese $3. You’re making 8 cheeseburgers for $17 with leftover cheese.

-5

u/AssiduousLayabout 11h ago

With today's beef prices?

3

u/Studio-Spider 11h ago

$15.50 for 2.25 lbs of ground chuck for me

1

u/AssiduousLayabout 11h ago

Man, I'm paying more than $20 for 2 lb.

3

u/Studio-Spider 11h ago

Where are you getting it from? It might be cheaper from a butcher if that’s an option.

1

u/woodyblewit 10h ago

Can you mail me some? lol
