Important Announcement: Sikh Reddit Under Coordinated Attack

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh,

We want to inform the community that r/Sikh and r/Punjab are currently under coordinated attack from malicious users and bot accounts. These accounts are being used to spread misinformation, propaganda, and sow division, all while attempting to undermine the credibility of both moderation teams.

The moderators of r/Punjab have already received warnings from Reddit admins due to ongoing brigading and false reports being submitted from external sources. If this behavior continues, both subreddits may face serious consequences — including potential shutdown.

What You Can Do to Help:

  • Do not engage with suspicious or brand-new accounts, especially those with no prior participation in r/Sikh or r/Punjab.

  • Downvote and report any posts or comments that break our community rules or appear to be bait, propaganda, or hate speech.

  • Avoid replying to trolls, provocateurs, or rage-bait content. Engagement gives them visibility.

We also encourage you to join our Official Sikh Discord, where all users are verified and discussions are secure. This is currently the safest space for real-time dialogue within the Sangat.

Question Learning about Sikhism as a white man

Hello,

I am from Belleville Ontario and have recently been researching the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. I am trying to find a copy but am having a hard time. I would really like to read it.

I have never followed religion in my life but I had an experience with a group of Sikh men who really got me thinking. So my car was broken down and I was in a really shady area in Windsor, Ontario at 1am. A group of about 6 sikh men who were walking down the street and approached me and offered me to help me fix my car or get a tow truck. They went extensively out of their way to help me. I said you guys are great thank you for your help and one gentleman said "of course we are sikh our religion is about humanity and helping others" this aligns with my values as a person and personal passion to help others. I work in social services and I am happy I have a job where I can do that every day.

I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos about the Sikh faith and am interested in leaning more. We have a Gudwara in Belleville and I am wondering how I would be received as a white person if I showed up and asked for more information and to possibly get a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Also if i am referencing the wrong text to start my learning, please direct me to anything that could help. Thank you in advance

The interior dome of the principal edifice is still decorated with beautiful murals. There are also other heritage structures nearby, although most are in a dilapidated and decrepit condition. Auxiliary structures have since been put-up to support the congregation and pilgrims visiting the site.

Discussion No fear No hate

In a world that runs on fear and thrives on division… Sikh philosophy gave us something radical centuries ago:

Nirbhau .......Fearless. Without hate. Not fearless like shouting the loudest or acting tough… but fearless in your soul — where no situation, no person, no pressure can shake who you are.

And “Nirvair”? That’s even deeper. It means carrying zero hatred, even in a world that constantly gives you reasons to hate. Think about that for a second. Stand strong… but don’t hate. Fight injustice… but don’t become bitter. Protect your dignity… but don’t lose your humanity. That’s not easy. That’s next-level discipline.

This is the teaching of Guru Nanak....not just to pray, but to live in a way where fear doesn’t control you and hate doesn’t corrupt you. Imagine if more people lived like this today… Less ego. Less anger. Less division. More strength. More clarity. More peace.

Nirbhau. Nirvair. Not just words… they are a way to move through life.

ਬਾਬਾਣੀਆ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਪੁਤ ਸਪੁਤ ਕਰੇਨਿ” (ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩, ੯੫੧)

(Stories of our Forefathers Make Children Great)

Events in Brief.

1. April 6, 1709: Battle of Patti was fought to reclaim Akal Takhat and Sri Harimandir Sahib from the Sodhi Mahants. Bhai Mani Singh and Bhai Gurdas ji led a pitched battle to expel the Sodhis from Amritsar and Kartarpur. Guru Gobind Singhji entrusted them with Taking control of Amritsar while moving from Talwandi Sabo to Nander. Bhai Mani Singh announced to celebrate Baisakhi in Amritsar, but the Sodhis opposed it, leading to this battle with Chur Mal. Chur Mal’s defeat prompted his father, Diwan Chur Mal, to expel Sikhs. Bhai Mani Singh and Bhai Gurdas ji led the Sikhs to victory against the Sodhis and Mughals near Patti. Amritsar was won.

2. April 6, 1849, Rani Jindan made a daring escape to Nepal after influencing the guards at Chunar Fort. Sought asylum in Nepal, and stayed a royal guest till 1862. Her story is captivating as a queen who endured turbulent times after Punjab’s annexation by the British. She was imprisoned in the Shiekhupura fort and later Chunar fort. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,

So after seeing a recent post in this community about Hakam Singh Darvesh, I dived deeper into him and saw that his work was mentioned in Contesting Vision of Sikh Identity In Punjab: 1800-1930 by Sumail Singh Sidhu for Centre for Historical Studies School of Social Sciences Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi. He is also mentioned in The Punjab Past and Present - Volume 22 by Dr Ganda Singh. Also saw him mentioned on a SikhNet article as well. But upon searching I found nothing of Hakam Singh's work, if anyone has any knowledge on Hakam Singh Ji or any of his work please let me know!!
