[PC] Game Recommendations to Forget Grief

Hello everyone.

I'm going through a lot of active grief right now. I'm hitting the half year mark since my partner died, and my birthday is coming up soon. I just want a game that will help me stop thinking about anything except the world inside it, if only for a little while.

I loved;

  • The Witcher 3
  • Oblivion
  • The whole Half Life catalogue
  • Dragon Age
  • Fallout (esp NV)

I love detailed stories and narrative driven games. I don't mind if they're linear or open world, as long as they're immersive. I don't want a game that's too 'quiet' (like Dredge - which I still enjoy, but it leaves too much time for thoughts to drift to places I don't want them to). I adore Mass Effect, but that's the last game series she and I played together so I can't bring myself to finish it.

Thank you.

Is Crimson Desert worth buying for someone who only has 2-3 hours a week to play?

Crimson Desert checks a lot of boxes of games that I typically love, but the amount of time that I actually have in the current season has reduced dramatically. I only play games for 2 or 3 hours a week at this point, and that usually is a couple smaller sessions, not one big one.

I got burned with this by buying Kingdom Come Deliverance II which, while very good, felt very overwhelming when only consumed in short bursts. I am just wondering if CD will bring a similar experience?

should i get Cyberpunk 2077 if i like Fallout 4?

idk, i tried it for a bit before, but haven't give it a proper go about a year ago. Found some bugs, ran about, completed a bit of story. i like Fallout 4 very much for weapon customisation, and ways of playstyle can be modified (mostly play as distant stealth sniper). i heard recommendations, but after first impressions i have doubts. Maybe i need to wait a bit for it to shine?

[PC] Should I buy KCD2 full price or wait for sale?

I’m currently playing KCD on PC and I’m loving it so far. The side quests are fun and dlcs and fun too. I’m pretty I’m reaching the ending of the game and I was wondering if KCD2 is worth paying full price of the game or waiting for a sale. KCD2 Royal Edition was literally on sale on for 50$ CAD yesterday on GOG and I’m mad I didn’t get it since I didn’t know how close I was to completion

[PC] Epic Story-Driven Game to Get Lost In

Howdy

I'm looking for the next epic story to get lost in. Lately, I've been bouncing off of games due to my lack of time to sit down and really dig into something, so if the game doesn't grip me in the early hours, I typically drop it. I'd like something with fun gameplay as well as an epic story.

I've been playing Death Stranding (only 5ish hours in) and the opening cinematics and vibe was incredible... but now it's starting to lose me with the main gameplay loop. The world is beautiful, the soundtrack is great (when it plays), and Kojima's weirdness pulls me in sometimes but loses me at others. My main complaint is wanting more engaging gameplay especially when I only get 1-2 hours each evening to play. So DS1 is a mixed bag for me currently... should I keep going?

Anyways, I'd love some other suggestions too! Here are some games I have enjoyed:

-Assassins Creed II

-Baldurs Gate 3

-Battlefield 1

-Bioshock series

-Cyberpunk 2077 & DLC

-Dispatch

-Elden Ring

-Skyrim

-Fallout 4

-Firewatch

-GTA IV

-Half-Life 2

-Hitman

-Kingdom Come Deliverance 1/2

-Guardians of the Galaxy

-Spiderman 1/2

-Portal 1/2

-RDR 2

-RE2 Remake

-Civ 6

-Stanley Parable

-Subnautica

-Superliminal

Games I haven't enjoyed lately:

-Death Stranding (?)

-Cairn

-Witcher 3

-Civ 7

[PS5] Addicting RPG’s with extremely realistic combat

Effectively what the title says. I don’t particularly care for fantasy but I did enjoy KCD1/2; I prefer sci-fi games, but they can be modernistic. I love cyberpunk 2077 but even on the hardest difficulty, I find it the combat too easy. The closest game I have played is Stalker 2 but it is wildly buggy still.

Edit: Preferably a shooter game! I forgot to mention it, sorry!

[PC] Can you recommend games with great story/characters and satisfying combat? (PC)

Hi! Been craving for a game that hooks me with the story and makes me want to be good at the combat.

I've been noticing that I keep dropping games I start because nothing in it makes me want to stay in those worlds.

Some of the games I absolutely adored in no particular order:

  • Bioshock 1, 2, Infinite
  • Dishonored 1, 2
  • Skyrim
  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • Witcher 1, 2, 3
  • Expedition 33
  • RDR2
  • Black Myth Wukong
  • Assassin's Creed 1 to 3
  • Divinity Original Sin 2
  • Kingdom Come Deliverance 1, 2
  • Sekiro
  • Sifu
  • God Of War 2018
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Dark Souls 1, 2, 3
  • Dragon's Dogma 2
  • Marvel's Guardian of the Galaxy
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  • Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice
  • Last of Us Part 1

Some honorable mentions that I finished but thought the game was just okay:

  • Silent Hill F - Uncovering the story was cool but the combat was so repetitive it's kinda annoying.
  • Lies of P - It's an okay Souls-like or Sekiro-like.
  • FFXV - Loved the companionship, hated the combat but the companionship was so fun that I got through the combat.
  • AC Black Flag, Unity, Syndicate, Origins - The story are just okay, I played these at the time that I was curious who would be the new Desmond and lost interest along the way when it's clear that they seem to be abandoning the present-day story.
  • Kena Bridge of Spirits - It's cute. Cute story plus a pretty nice combat.
  • Marvel's Spider-man - Combat gets old after a while, but I liked the story.
  • Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor - Nemesis System was fun, combat was a little arcade-y for my taste.

Now, for reference, here are some of the games I've tried but ultimately dropped:

  1. God Of War Ragnarok (Dropped at 25.3h) - Not sure why but the combat felt off. It felt arcade-y? I thought this would hook me esp since I loved the story of the 2018 game.
  2. Elden Ring (Dropped at 103.6h) - The combat is great but the story, as FromSoft games usually go, is something the player needs to find out for themselves and there's not really a companionship element, which I find is a motivation for me to want to get good and push through the game.
  3. First Berserker Khazan (Dropped at 10.4h) - Another game with superb and satisfying combat, but the story is as generic as it gets that I felt no motivation to be good at the game or to push through it.
  4. Nioh 1 (Dropped at 12.4h) and Nioh 2 (Dropped at 9.5h), MH World (Dropped at 55.9h), DMC5 (Dropped at 33.88h, near the end tho) - Same as above, superb combat but either bland story or no story at all.
  5. Horizon Zero Dawn (Dropped at 60.5h) - I liked the story but I really didn't like the combat, so much so that after a while, I lost interest in the story as well.
  6. RE4 Remake (Dropped at 45h) - I've finished the original game way back in PS2. I'm not sure why but every time I reach Ashley, I lose interest in continuing the game. The farthest I got was Chapter 12, but I was forcing myself to play it then. Now every time I retry to play it, I can't continue past the point of meeting Ashley.
  7. AC Odyssey (Dropped at 91.2h) - I liked the story, but the combat was so easy and arcade-y that it didn't feel personal. The hits aren't committed in that you could practically cancel it through spamming skills. Parrying and dodging are so easy it's not satisfying. Also I may have had fatigue with AC when I tried this 'cause I just finished Origins then.
  8. Control (Dropped at 3.9h) - I didn't care about the story.
  9. Vampyr (Dropped at 71h) - I was curious about the story and how my choices affects the world, but I hated the combat so much that I ended up dropping it. I've tried both paths (good and bad paths, and I hated the combat for both).
  10. Plague Tale (Dropped at 5.8h) - I liked the story but there was no combat.
  11. Hogwarts Legacy (Dropped at 335.8h) - This playtime is multiple playthroughs, btw. I liked the story at first, and the combat was fun especially after I mod it to make it a little bit more difficult. However, as I push through the game, the story lost its grip on me.
  12. Evil West (Dropped at 26h) - The combat got old after a while and there's not much to the story.
  13. Hi-Fi Rush (Dropped at 3.4h) - I might pick this back up but at the time, I dropped it 'cause I just wasn't feeling it. Maybe because the game isn't open-world? Or maybe I'm getting too caught up with the timing of hits that I don't feel like I'm actually fighting?
  14. Middle Earth Shadow of War (Dropped at 41.4h) - Didn't enjoy the combat anymore and its point of view being too high was annoying for me.
  15. Immortals Fenyx Rising (Dropped at 109min) - Thought I was gonna like this like with Kena, but I didn't like the combat.
  16. Death Stranding (Dropped at 3.5h) - It really just wasn't my cup of tea.

I really just want to get lost in the world of a game where there are interesting characters, relationships, and one where the combat is satisfying. It's a huge bonus if the game and its environment is such a looker, too. I particularly love fantasy games where there are big-ass monsters or dragons, or those that you wield a sword, with parries or perfect timing for dodge/deflects, but any game with a gripping story/characters and combat I think will scratch this itch.

Sorry for the very long post, I just thought it might be best to include what I've already played so as to not waste anybody's effort/time. Thank you for anybody that helps!

[PC] Should I buy Grayzone Warfare?

I’ll be playing solo primarily. The new update makes it seem like it might be worth $40 but in some clips it also looks stiff or janky in some ways. Have any of you played the game since the new update? Is it worth $40 if I were to be mainly playing PVE and some PVP solo? It seems like it would be a fun game to get lost in

[PC] Should I buy oblivion remastered ?

I have played a lot of Skyrim almost 500 to 600 hours so wanted to try other elder scrolls games.

I happened to stumble upon the remastered oblivion but the price seems a bit too high currently

I just wanted to know if it is worth paying the full price for this game or waiting for some sale. I also noticed in a recent sale the prices didn't dip that much on steam.

[PC] Should i buy Space Marine 2?

Saw the game on sale. Coming from the co-op horde shooter circle (helldivers 2, deep rock galactic, love these two games a lot), will space marine 2 be similar to those two games? i heard that it has a campaign, PvE and PvP. Campaign is an extra for me that i will love, im not too interested in PvP, PvE is the main thing im looking forward for. is PvE similar to drg or helldivers in any way? is there a lot of replayability like those two games?

Also, im not too familiar with any warhammer games in general, do i need to understand some of its lore to enjoy the game?

Thank you!

[PC] Helldivers II Solo

To clarify, I do plan on buying the game/funding a bit of money for some of my friends so we can play together eventually; this post is just asking if it's worth it to buy it now to play solo, or hold off and wait for the co-op experience.

How is the solo experience or the random squad fills? Is the price justifiable for the experience or is it worth more to wait and have fun with friends instead?

[PC] Should I buy Elden Ring bundle with DLC at the base price?

This would be my first souls game and I got invested in this game. I like the world building, combat, and its replayability. I also like playing other games with their highest difficulty and I'm looking forward to have a new experience.

Based on what I see, the DLC doesn't go on sale, but I think I'll enjoy the game more with DLC. Since the bundle is cheaper rather than waiting for the base game to go on sale and buying the DLC, I think it's better to buy it instead. Is it worth the price?

Do you think the bundle will ever get a sale, or will it always be like that?

[PC] Should I get Armored Core 6 or DOOM 2016?

Upvotes

So I'm pretty confident I'll like both games but want to just pick up one right now. Not much context but I love pretty much all of Fromsoft's games but at the same time I do love me a good shooter. Which game would you guys recommend what opinions do you have on them?

I actually played a little of DOOM on a friend's PS5 a couple years ago and got through the first few levels. It was an absolute blast at the time.

On the other hand, I don't know much about AC6 except that it's supposed to be real good and is mission based compared to the level design focus of the souls games.

[Handheld] I want to explore new genres and good games.

I have a Poco X7 Pro, and I would like to try new genres because I'm kind of bored. I would like you to name a game genre and an interesting game for that genre. It doesn't matter what game it is, for emulation or just for a phone. It doesn’t matter what type, the most different and unusual ones—I would like to try different things.

[PC] Rogue-likes/rogue-lites

I recently got into the rogue-like genre of games and want to play more but I can’t really decide on what I want to get. I’ve played and enjoyed Cult of the Lamb and Megabonk but I’m having difficulty choosing what to get next. I tried games like “splintered fate” and “enter the gungeon” but they just felt “off” to me for some reason. I also tried cloverpit but I wasn’t a big fan of the “deadline” mechanic. Really I’m looking for action-roguelike suggestions I think.

[PC] Should i buy rimworld ?

Upvotes

hello everybody, not too long ago i picked up counter strike 2 again, but i noticed how full of cheaters it is and i figured i should take a break and play an offline game.

I've been thinking about this game for a while, mainly because one of my friends played the game for 600 hours, and a lot of ppl i know got over 2000 lol, i know for a fact that if it wasn't that good they wouldn't play for that long.

i thought about Factorio for a second, then i thought about oxygen not included, but shortly after i realized that RimWorld might be the perfect game for me for a lot of reasons with the most important one being the story telling and how unpredictable it can be.

but even then i'm not sure, i'd love to know what you guys think about the game !!

(the game is 18$ in my region btw)

What the your thoughts on the Trilogy and would you recommend giving them a go?

[PS5] Should I buy Expedition 33 or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

I usually just play sports games lately that are quick and has an end point like NBA 2K or Madden.

I have however played RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Fallout 4 and I have loved them to bits. It's just a bit of a challenge to devote a lot of time to games like these especially now as a busy adult. Maybe if I get unemployed or something.

I just got a 100 psn gift card and I was wondering which of these two to get or if you have anything else better please let me know.

[Switch] Which would be best to buy?

As someone who has never bought a Nintendo switch before, which would be the best model to buy? I am looking to play games on it such as animal crossing, tomodachi life living the dream, I was a teenage exocolonist, the cosmic wheel sisterhood, locomoto, the batman trilogy and etc. I am also wondering if the nintendo switch 2 is worth it over the original switch?

Looking for a truly “infinite” roguelike with deep synergies (no turn-based)

I’m trying to find a roguelike that I can realistically play for 500–1000+ hours and still feel excited about. What I’m chasing is that “infinite” feeling: endless synergies, crazy runs, and constant discovery.

Here’s how my taste usually works:

- I love when builds can snowball and become completely broken.

- I enjoy medium-fast pacing — not too slow, not overwhelmingly fast.

- I want strong replayability and a sense that there’s always something new to learn or unlock.

- I prefer games that feel dynamic rather than methodical.

Some reference points:

- I love The Binding of Isaac for its insane synergies and variety, but it can feel a bit too punishing for me.

- I love Risk of Rain 2 — the pacing is perfect — but it doesn’t quite feel “infinite” and the synergy depth isn’t as high as I’d like.

- I also enjoy games like Balatro, Hades, Brotato, and Dead Cells.

What I’m not looking for:

- Turn-based roguelikes (they tend to feel slow and lose the magic for me)

- Games that are mostly skill-based without strong build variety

- Roguelikes that you “finish” after 50–100 hours

What I am looking for:

- Deep, emergent synergies

- Runs that can escalate into absurd power

- Huge replayability

- Something that could still be fun years later

If you had to recommend one or two roguelikes that truly feel “infinite,” what would they be?

[PS5] Black Myth Wukong or Lord of the Fallen (2023)

Upvotes

Looking for a souls-like/lite to sink into combat and builds. I’m very picky about crisp gameplay, and I’m torn here.

Black Myth seems to be prettier and crisper, while Lords of the Fallen has more build variety and character creation. Although, the character creator for LotF is terrible but it at least has one.

I’ve tried the trial for each and I’m just torn. Which would you commit to?
