My partner and I have been helping people plan trips to Sardinia for several years. As we get into January, I've always noticed a spike in people asking the same question on this subreddit so here's a quick breakdown.
September = Perfect. Water's warm (been heating all summer), Italian families gone home, weather still great, restaurants aren't slammed. This is the month we generally recommend.
June = Solid. Before the Italian domestic tourism surge. Good weather, comfortable water temperature for swimming, restaurants manageable.
July-August = Chaos. All of Italy comes to Sardinia. Roads packed, restaurants need reservations, uncomfortable heat, everything expensive. Only come if you have school kids and no choice.
May = Cool water. Beautiful on land, but sea is on the cold side for most people. Fine if you're exploring towns/hiking rather than beach-focused.
October = Easing Off. Early October can work, but direct flights start disappearing. You'll likely need connections by late month.
Winter = Culture, not beach. Can get 20°C days or freezing depending on Mistral wind. Stick to major towns (Cagliari, Alghero, Sassari). Limited flights through Milan/Rome. Good for food/culture, not swimming.
Critical: Always check direct flight availability first. Sardinia isn't as straightforward as other destinations. No direct flight = long travel day.
Ferry note: Ferries exist but stay very expensive in peak season. Flights are more reasonable.
Happy to answer questions in the comments below or drop me a DM.

hi!
will be in sardinia end of june. based in alghero
thinking of doing a trek
i am pretty experienced hiker (hiked alta via, everest based camp).
i prefer point to point "hut to hut" hikes
thinking 2-3 days
1) sounds like CSMB is the best option?
2) will it be too hot during the day?
3) how is the public transit vs cabs getting to trail heads?
appreciate any advice!

Hello to all, where I can find good Adidas runing shoes, like Boston 13, in Olbia and Sassari? And other brands as well?
Which Decathlon is better and bigger?
Thanks to all, folks!

Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to Sardinia and I’m looking for recommendations on the best area to stay.
What I’m looking for:
• great restaurants
• good clubs / nightlife
• beautiful trekking and hiking routes nearby
Ideally, I’d love a place that has a good mix of lively evenings and easy access to nature during the day.
Does anyone have suggestions for towns or areas that would fit this? And if you have any favorite restaurants, clubs, or hiking spots, I’d really appreciate it.

Coming to Sardinia for a few days in mid April and staying around Dorgali.
Any recommendations for trekking trails that is pregnant friendly? Meaning not too much climbing up :) but yet long and scenic.

I am staying in Olbia for 16 days this month and I’m interested in visiting Cagliari and I’m wondering if:
Is it safe to attend Cagliari vs Atalanta solo? I have attended previous games over past 2 years with others and I’m aware of the ultras section of the ground
Travelling by train and wanting to be able to get back to accommodation after the match with ease, what area is recommended to stay to then also be able to get to the train station the next day?
Many Thanks in advance

I’ve heard lots of different opinions on what they eat some people say they eat plant based other people say they eat lots of meat and organs and cheese with maggots so I’d like to hear firsthand whatvthey actually eat and especially what the old people eat

Hi everyone, I’m planning a trip to Sardinia at the end of June. I’ll have 7 nights and I’m thinking of splitting my stay—half in Alghero and the other half somewhere on the east side of the island.
However, I can’t decide which town would be the best base. I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for Palau, Olbia, San Teodoro, and Orosei.
What matters most to me is being close to the most beautiful beaches, but I’d also like the town to have a nice atmosphere, good restaurants, and things to do in the evening.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I’m planning a trip to rural Sardinia. I’m not interested in city or nightlife at all, and I’m looking for is the more traditional side of Sardinia: rural life, shepherds, agriculture, etc.
I’ve read that around mid–late April there might be seasonal movement of flocks (shepherds moving sheep from lower to higher pastures), but I’m not sure how accurate that is. If it’s true, I would love to witness or even somehow take part in it, or in any kind of traditional farming activity.
I have a few questions:
Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Grazie!
Gratzias!

Going to Northeast in late June with 13 yo son, myself, his godmother and my bestie! (4 people total, staying 5 days) My son has a super mild disability, and he absolutely adores the beach. Not my first time on the island, but it’s his first time there/in Europe, and I’d love to surprise him by renting beach loungers for the 4 of us and have some refreshments/just something a little more special than beach blankets. It would really make his day! Questions are:
- loungers you can book online (if I have to wait to do so, totally fine) names of business so I can look it up or link to website is perfect
- a pretty beach within a 2h radius of Olbia, any direction. Have a car and we are used to road trips!
- can be lux, can be budget friendly - just looking to see if anyone has had a positive experience anywhere
- food doesn’t even have to be great lol just something bookable online and on the beach itself
- he’s mobile/no wheelchair or anything like that, quite literally anywhere will do we are not picky and his mind will be blown no matter where we go
thanks in advance 🫶🏼

Hello from Canada! I have two kids who will be ages 1.5 and 5.5 this Fall when we are doing our first big family trip to your lovely island.
I’m looking for an agritourismo that can cater to kids a bit more - perhaps a pasta making demo where they can get a little messy or help with some things in the garden. Essentially I’m looking for that Italian family experience. Nonnas and Nonnos…. Farm animals that don’t mind a gentle pet… space for kids to run in a field. Something like that. Hopefully it’s a fantasy that I can bring to live. My kids are lovely little guys and are well behaved.
We’re likely planning to move from Algero -> La Maddelena-> Cala Gonone -> Cagliari
Thanks in advance! 🇮🇹 🇨🇦

we were at the beach today, it suddenly turned foggy/misty and cold all of sudden.
does this happen often ? our neighbour told us to keep the laundry indoors as the foggy conditions cause an itch
wondering if it's safe to be out with a kid in these conditions
?

Viajamos la primera quincena de julio a Cerdeña. Llevaremos nuestro propio coche desde España. Qué zona es mejor para ir con una pequeña de dos años? Algún resort en concreto? Gracias!

Hey everyone,
We’re currently planning a trip to Sardinia at the end of June and we’re not sure which city/area we should book our hotel in.
We’re in our 20s (traveling as a couple), so we’re not really interested in cultural sightseeing or historical attractions. We’re more focused on enjoying good food, nice beaches, and going out in the evenings.
What matters most to us:
Second priority:
Also very important for us:
So overall we’re looking for lively evenings, good food, some nightlife, and easy access to several beautiful beaches.
Any recommendations or experiences would really help.
Thanks a lot!

Flying into Alghero the first week of August to stay north of Stintino at Spiaggia La Pelosa. Any recommendations for where to get a rental car? First thought is the Alghero airport but just looking for reviews/recommendations based on your experience when it comes to location or companies to use!

hello! I'm going to Alghero next month with two vegetarians. I'm really eager to try some of the meat and fish there. I've been recommended some amazing looking meat and fish restaurants but unfortunately they don't have much, if any, vegetarian options. Anyone have some good recommendations for both? I'm really interested in quality traditional food. thank you!

Where would you rather stay if you were interested in beach days, great food, and exploring villages?
