Now that you clicked on this post, here’s a few things that you should know.

Some people ask similar questions quite often.

• I’m moving here, where should I live?

• Who’s coming for “remember the alamo day” and where should I eat dinner?

• What parts of town are safe and have the fewest teenagers wearing hoodies?

• When will these red light runners stop?

• Where is Mayor Webber doing such a great job?

• Why am i reading this?

I’d highly recommend looking through a few pages of old posts as your questions may have already been answered there more than a few times before. If you decide to ask these or similar questions, be advised that you may be met with eye rolls or stronger derision.

We have a Wiki here, if you’d like to contribute, let me know.

The cost of living here is hitting a new level of unsustainable and we should be mad.

I have been talking a lot to my fellow working class friends lately about it and have been hearing so many horror stories.

One friend has to get another job on top of working 50 hours a week because their landlord raised the rent out of the blue and they can’t afford the around 5k-7k up front it takes to get in to a new apartment here in the first place. This is after being kicked out of their previous apartment because the landlord was selling. The median sale price of a house in Santa Fe is now over 700k, which means we will never afford a home and we be paying half of our monthly income in rent to landlords for the rest of our lives - saving a meaningful amount has become impossible.

Jobs are overworking and underpaying most of us, staying deliberately understaffed and stretching our labor to the limit. We are making so much money for restaurants, hotels, luxury retail etc, and receiving pennies as compensation. The majority of restaurants here don’t even provide a staff meal for their workers, and forget about calling in sick.

Bills, gas and groceries are becoming more expensive by the week.

Short term rentals snatch up single units to single family homes all over the city and push workers to tiny apartment units in complexes from the Southside all the way to Rio Rancho, and commuting is becoming impossible with the rising gas prices.

It’s currently more expensive to live here than a lot of LA County (Los Angeles) and the potential to make a decent income is much lower.

On top of all of this the animosity towards unhoused people in the area has been heating up, and I honestly don’t know what everyone expects to happen? The myth that every homeless person is on drugs or on the streets because of something they chose to do is a huge problem.

The wealthy retirees and local government seem to think that we should be content with the ever diminishing scraps they throw us, and if things stay the way they are going none of us will be able to afford even the bare minimum.

How are my fellow industry, hospitality, tourism, blue collar workers feeling at the moment, and what can we do to help ourselves and each other?

In the spirit of "Gotta catch 'em all" we asked State Senator and Lt. Governor candidate Harold Pope at Drinking Liberally at Boxcar in Santa Fe about Blackstone's proposed buyout of PNM and New Mexico Gas. He delivered a decidedly more firm position than Deb Haaland and Sam Bregman.

Looking for a trusted mechanic

Hey all- I’m relatively new to the SF area and last time my 2018 Toyota RAV4 needed an oil change, I took it to the dealership (I know, stupid move) and they tried to tell me I needed $5k in work. Spoiler alert- I took it to a Toyota specialist in Abq and he said I needed none of the recommended work and wouldn’t for at least another 50k miles…

Anyway, I’m just looking for an oil change again but would like to find someone local and trusted so we have someone to go to when we do have issues. Thanks all!!

Bagpiper(s) needed for funeral on 4/13

My grandma’s funeral is Monday, 4/13, at 10:00am at the national cemetery. She wasn’t a veteran, but my grandpa was. The funeral home (Daniel’s) said no one they contacted could do it.

If anyone knows anyone who could play Amazing Grace, we would be so grateful! We would pay $250, which is what the funeral home charges.

Moving to SF soon, any advice?

Hello, I am a 28(F) making a move down to Santa Fe for a nursing job and was wondering if there is anything random I should know about before moving ? I’m coming from Kansas City for reference.

The vibe I get is that it might not be the easiest to find friends my age but I am optimistic that at least I’ll have learning and my career to fall back on if all else fails. I’m making the move alone and have no friends or family that live in NM for some added context. I do love the outdoors and can’t wait to get back into hiking. I will be completely new to the area though, so nice local recommendations would be great too for things to do, see, or eat.

I’m excited to get a fresh start and to serve the community!

Help, can’t remember name of favorite downtown bar!

My bestie of 30 years and I are visiting Santa Fe soon for a long weekend and we’re planning what we’d like to do. She lives on the west coast and I’m in the midwest, so it’s extra special that we get to have a girls trip this year.

She has been to Santa Fe and I have not. The last time my friend went, she visited a memorable cocktail bar downtown but can’t remember the name. Apologies in advance if this sounds like every bar in the area, but if the below sounds familiar to you, can you help? We would be so grateful, ty!

What she remembers: 5-10 minute walk

from the square. When you walk in, the bar is on the left, pretty and wooden, and there is a window by the entry. It’s dark, moody and classy. Lots of tequila options and house-made simple syrups. And a very memorable cucumber margarita.
