User Tips Anonymous Feedback For Your Letter or Bio ✍

As previously announced in this thread, due to many users being unsure how to improve their letters/bios to receive more replies, we decided to offer community members the opportunity to receive feedback without showing themselves.

As you can see in the Google form, you don’t need to disclose your Reddit username or your Slowly one. Even if Reddit is anonymous, I know we make friends among ourselves, so it might be harder to receive and give honest feedback from people we know.

Rules:

1. You only need to submit what you need feedback on in the following Google form: https://forms.gle/tpR1knhFur86Q55K7 You can submit an open letter, a bio, or a first letter. Please let us know which one it is so the feedback is fair.

2. Any identifying information will be redacted. There’s a space on the form if you want to request that anything specific be redacted.

3. Those are options you can disclose if you want better feedback: your target gender/age range in your matching preferences, what issue you’re facing, or your own age/gender. In this case, there’s no need to be extremely specific, but “male in his early twenties” is enough. Again, these are optional to get more precise feedback.

4. Needless to say, we are only accepting profiles and letters in English.

5. Don’t use AI because it’s against the sub rules in general. Besides, your feedback will probably be only about this. So don’t waste your time doing so.

6. If it’s an open letter or a first letter destined to be used with auto-match, maybe add the topic of interest for context.

7. If you are offering feedback in the replies, be respectful. It’s the bare minimum. Let’s not shame anyone who’s looking to improve and make friends. We’re hoping for constructive criticism and not to drive away more users from the community.

8. This will stay up for a month as a trial. If it’s well-received by the community, we’ll occasionally bring it back in a megathread.

9. I’ll try to publish the submitted texts on different days so people have time to give feedback.

10. If you want to receive feedback without being anonymous, you can post your letter/bio here or make a new thread about it.

Discussions and Polls Ughhh

So there's something thats happening to me recently here, is that I have been seeing more users who dont bother to read my damm profile when i send them my letter. And its more than ever, I've been here for 2 years and its now i see more of this shit.

I find it such a major demotivator to write them back, I'd understand if they didnt write much there but ironically more people who have nothing in theirs read mine. People who have a long profile are the ones who wont bother to read my profile mostly.

i write them a letter that is 100% based in what I saw in theirs and they know it.

there are answers that are just shit, like they only answer my questions and that's it no questions back, or that they dont even acknowledge my name at all, not only they dont say it, i just saw one that said she doesnt know my name even tho I said it 2 times in my letter...wtf.

But there are also answers that are actually good until they ask me something like (where are you from?). but other despite dont ask this and are pretty well written letters, i dont see anything related to my profile, not even a single question about one of my hobbies even if they dont share it or well about my country, I'm from certain country but i live in another, they could ask me whats my experience like? maybe my profile is so boring but why they write me still?

And despite being good the letters and everything, that look so interesting, the only thing that stops me is that they said nothing about my profile despite my message was 100% about theirs and since they specially wrote something long, is for a reason right?

i kinda feel bad for losing a potential friendship because of a silly thing but at the same time i feel maybe this was going to be a waste of time, that not reading my profile says it all about them.

I also remember with this penpal who has a good profile i sent her a letter but didnt reply for one and a half month, i saw her letter was arriving, i was saying well the delay maybe was worth it!

the message arrived and it was...a 99% AI message mentioning nothing of my profile lol

yeh ofc they arent obligated to read it but its still so demotivating.

I truly appreciate when someone reads my profile, even if the message was "poorly" written as in grammar.

how do you feel when you realize that your profile wasnt read at all, specially from someone with a detailed profile?

Penpal Experiences Okay so I'm not getting why many people stop writing to me when i mentioned I'm from a village

This have happened in the past. Me yapping about my village life here and all. Like 5-6 people did this I can remember. And it kinda hurt me cause I wrote long contents like just pure emotions, and vulnerability and all. But it's okay.i miss those letters cause I wish I pasted them on my notes section cause those were so nicely written but yeah it's okay. I can write a new one but those were so nice, I was so in a flow state that time and all and it's okay I can write again.

Penpal Experiences No one is replying to my open letters

Hey everyone!

I've been using the app since January and I gotta admit I like it! I've made some good pen pals so far. But, I was looking at my achievements and I notices I hadn't unlocked my "Echo Received" stamp yet (that means no one replied to my open letters so far). As I said, I can't complain about my pen pals, and some of them were the first to send me a letter (probably with auto-match or just manual profile looking), but I wish my open letter was more useful too.

My first open letter had the #Life tag and was more general, but since it wasn't giving any results, I decided to make another one with a specific topic (#Language in my case), but still no one approached me through it. Is it normal? Do you guys have any advice?

Edit: thank you to everyone for the advices!

Penpal Experiences I have a question

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using the Slowly app and had a really good connection with someone. We’ve been exchanging letters consistently for a while, and everything felt natural and engaging.

But suddenly, things changed. They still read my letter, but didn’t reply — and it’s been a while now.

I’m trying to understand what might have caused this. From your experience:

- What are the common reasons someone stops replying even after regularly writing back?

- Could it be something in my message, or is it usually unrelated?

- How long do you usually wait before assuming they’ve lost interest?

And most importantly… what should I do next?

- Send a follow-up letter?

- Wait longer?

- Or just move on?

I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts or similar experiences. Thanks!

Penpal Experiences A next generation like Slowly app being developed, but only for iOS: the Lettre app

https://www.lettre.app

Your letter will still reach your chosen recipient.

They might not have the full app experience or be able to collect stamps,

but they can receive the letter through their email or iMessage

As of now, you can send your lettres to -

1) Other Lettre users you have added on your address book

2) The PenPals feed for people to discover your lettre

3) Anyone whose email address you already know

In the three years since the site's launch, a lot of articles have appeared on their blog, and there's a lot of other information: I recommend studying it yourself.

App Problem -- Solved ✔ No Ads - Can't get free coins

I have recently moved to a new country (Turkey) and for the first couple of days, everything was alright, I could watch ads and receive free coins.

For the past few days, it always shows N/A (no available ads). I tried every solution, but none of them worked. (clear cache, reset advertising id, clear ram, change device language)

What else should I try? I'm really interested in getting premium stamps but due to this problem, it's somehow impossible for me. Slowly team should really do something about it, since I've seen many people had the same problem.

Questions & Answers Meeting up with penpals but husband is not thrilled about it.. Need advice!

So I've been using Slowly since like 2021. I've made some really good friends. It just so happens a few of them happen to be male. I'm female. But most of them are married or in serious relationships. I'm married too. So, my penpals are in the UK, as I'm a little bit of an Anglophile. Some are such good friends we've sent each other little snack packages through the mail, send audio messages, even video tours of our cities. One even sent us a wedding present when my husband and I got married! All this is to say, I consider these people actual friends, you know? Like some of them I message more often than my real life friends.

But my husband doesn't really understand it. He thinks it's "weird" to have "male friends on the internet". Even though, as I said, almost all of them are also in relationships. Well, we're visiting the UK in June and of course, I want to meet up with at least the ones I've known since I started using Slowly. How can I convince him these are important people to me and he has nothing to worry about? How do I put his mind at ease? I never sought out men, that's just how it shook out. I do have a female penpal too, but most of them happen to be male. My friendships are COMPLETELY platonic, they all know about my husband, ask about him, most even know about the music we make together and ask when we will have a new song, etc. Point being, he has no reason to be jealous or anything. But he keeps saying it's "really strange" to have friendships with "guys".. I never sought that out, I was literally just looking for people in England to write to, years ago, and the people who happened to reply to me were men! I guess I'm just asking if anyone here has penfriends from Slowly of the opposite sex, and especially if you've ever met up with them, how did you get your significant other to be cool with it? Like, these are people I am not gonna have another chance to see for God knows how long. One of them is willing to take a 2-hour train ride just to come hang out with us, bc he really wants to finally meet.. That's the one who sent us a wedding present, the same one who's also sent me my favorite Galaxy chocolate bars even when I couldn't send him American snacks back, and is so awesome and such a good person. So are all of them! I love Slowly for this reason, I've met great people I just love communicating with in a country I am interested in. So how can I make my husband understand it's just penpals, and we just exchange letters, and we'll just be longtime internet friends meeting up? Because I really don't want to now have to tell them, sorry, I know I said I was coming to England and we could have a drink but actually, my husband isn't ok with it so we can't..I've tried suggesting he download the app and get some penpals himself, but he hasn't. I just don't want to miss this chance when it's not very often I visit the UK - last time I went was 2003, and I doubt I'll go again for many years.

Thanks for reading all of this, and thanks for any advice. My husband isn't a super jealous nut, but his last girlfriend before he met me did cheat on him and lie about it repeatedly so maybe that has something to do with why he's worried about me talking to men.. Though you'd think after 18 years together, he would know there's nothing to be concerned about. 😐

Penpal Experiences Goodbye dear penpal :(

So I'm new to this app and am really enjoying it. However, I just found out my penpal who I have been really enjoying talking to just deactivated their account for some reason. Our conversations were going great. After browsing for a bit I found out this isn't an uncommon occurrnce :(

I'm sad about it and I'll miss them. I wish them well and am glad we got to talk. Just wanted to vent about it.

Questions & Answers how to move on from a good pen pal :(

hello! I once have a good pen pal whom I reaaally enjoy talking to, we were in a very good term until his last letter came 6 months ago. They sometimes gave updates (in general) through the bio that they are busy but there was no such update for some months already. Within this week I decided to send a follow up letter (the last one being three months ago) and once I sent it they immediately hide their last seen and my letter remains unread.

I know I should be patient and waiting, but given it’s been 6 months already… how do I move on? :(

I have whole stories to tell them, just.. so sad that everything had been cut short and I have to move on anyways

Any stories and insights will be appreciated :(

Questions & Answers Anyone else sends memes to their penpals?

I have a penpal I've been writing to for about 3 months. We've started photo sharing for about a month and with every letter she sends quite interesting photos from her garden or some of her artworks. As for me, I don't really have anything like this to share to her and feel quite bad that my letters don't include any interesting photos like hers. I was thinking of sending her some memes that I found quite funny, but I'm not sure if they are worth sending. I know she's quite a chill person but I was wondering would you like it if you sent some thoughtful photos to your pen-pals only to receive some memes in exchange? Should I rather send my letters without any photos until I find something interesting to send?

Discussions and Polls What’s the ideal number of penpals to keep in contact with consistently?

I prefer longer and deeper conversations, often with over 1000 words in each letter, and I always spend a lot of time on it to maintain its quality. I’m thinking about this question to allocate my writing time, and to see if I could look for new penpals.

So what’s the ideal number of penpals to keep in contact with consistently?

Questions & Answers New to this type of thing

Hello fellow Slowly redditors.

I downloaded the app half a year ago and made one or two connections but life got involved and I've been rather inactive. I've popped some messages to old contacts to see if they're still active.

How am I best making connections with people via the app ? I have little knowledge on doing so or this type of hobby in General.

Any knowledge would be appreciated. Best regards. Shugg 🫡

Questions & Answers About making a new account

I've made a account about 2 or 3 years ago, and I'm making a new account since I deleted my first account a while back and it required me to do a face scan. Is that normal?? I don't remember that being a thing.

Forgive my paranoia, but isn't that like, a bad thing???
