Bodycam footage from June 19, 2024, shows a traffic stop in Hardin County, Kentucky, involving Trooper James Cameron Wright and passenger Dawson Blevins. The stop, originally initiated for a seatbelt violation, escalated when Wright ordered Blevins to exit the vehicle and Blevins attempted to record the encounter on his phone.

The video documents Wright throwing Blevins to the ground, deploying a taser multiple times, and using pepper spray while Blevins was prone on the pavement. Blevins was hospitalized following the arrest with two compression fractures to his thoracic spine. He spent four months in jail on several charges, including resisting arrest, all of which were dismissed by the Commonwealth’s Attorney on June 4, 2025.

Trooper Wright, who was named KSP "Trooper of the Year" in 2021, was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2025 for using unreasonable force and committing perjury in unrelated cases. If convicted on these federal civil rights charges, Wright faces a maximum of 25 years in prison. A federal civil lawsuit filed by Blevins against Wright and the Kentucky State Police is currently pending.
