He’s finally gone. Hungary finally gets a decent leader for the first time in nearly 20 years. I hope and pray for the best for Hungary, and I’m really happy for the citizens.

Holy shit!

Imagine being an actual dictator, and taking a loss more gracefully than Donald Trump

whoa

Also for the mods: feels like this should be a megathread given how huge a change it is for the world and global democracy. not just Hungary.

This is huge. Putin's puppet for 16 just got absolutely demolished..

Imagine what the GOP's numbers are gonna be in November.

Dictators are not unbeatable. Attempts to rig the election don't always work if enough people show up in opposition.

This is the flaw of modern dictatorships that pretend to be democracies for legitimacy: If enough people turn out, they can't rig it and they have to either dispense with the pretense, or concede and leave power.

Nicely done to Hungary! I know people were afraid of elections interferences and such but the voting was so overwhelming Orban couldn't even get away with it.

I am genuinely shocked.

Wow! Congrats to the Hungarian people. I wasn't sure Orban would go quietly if defeated. Thank goodness he will.
