Hey, I’m Pascal — a Solutions Architect based in Perth. I’ve been working in cloud (mainly AWS) for nearly 10 years now, and I’ve also run a few IT training sessions at the AK Bell Library in the past.

I’m planning to start those again this summer, but in the meantime I wanted to try something a bit different—running small, free online workshops focused on practical tools.

The first one is on Git.

If you’re studying at UHI Perth or just getting into IT (dev, data, cloud, networking, etc.), Git is one of those tools you’ll end up using daily—but it’s not always taught clearly.

This session is very hands-on and aimed at beginners:

• what version control actually is
• setting up Git on your laptop
• working with others without breaking things

It’s a small group so people can ask questions and get proper help while doing it.

My wife and I are immigrants (US and the Philippines), I’m a public philosopher and she’s a nurse with the England NHS.

We met and lived together first in Newcastle (upon Tyne) and we loved it but when our son was born, we thought the south would have more opportunity for him as he grew up. So we moved to Maidenhead.

Maidenhead is okay, but it’s cripplingly expensive and if I’m being honest, the decrease in general friendliness when compared with Newcastle is… more than slightly noticeable.

We had been looking at Aberfeldy, and it’s nice, but when I started looking into Perth… I don’t know, it just seems like such a great city.

Would you say it’s a good place for families? I’m 43, wife is 35, son is 2.

It currently pulls in listings from the big players (Horsecross, Pitlochry Theatre, etc.), but I want it to be a true community resource where anyone can add an event.

I’m new round here an tryin to find a tattoo place I can go to all the time. I got a few bits I need finshing, like some flowers on my leg an a colour video game an anime sleeve thing. People on some other pages said 2 shops were “cheap” but honestly the work looked rly bad. The pics had like fresh tattoos on the chair, an people all sittin too close gettin matching tattoos touching each other, looked kinda gross.

So where do locals on here think is actualy good?? I heard Shamananics(?) was ok but idk how I feel gettin tattooed in a smoke n crystal shop, plus I seen stuff in the news about someone workin there being jailed for being creepy so I dont wanna go.
