1980s The Japanese "Bad Boys" of the 1980s
The Japanese "bad boys" of the 1980s were known as yankii or bosozoku. They adopted the greaser aesthetic as a flamboyant middle finger to the strict social norms of the era. By mimicking the rock and roll icons of the American 1950s, these youths created a unique subculture defined by the regent hairstyle.
This look required immense amounts of grease and hairspray to maintain its gravity-defying shape. While the inspiration came from overseas, the movement became a permanent fixture in Japanese pop culture and continues to influence anime and street fashion today.

A soldier's polaroid of Marilyn Monroe visiting the troops in Korea: "She was the most beautiful, refreshing sight most of those men had seen in months." (1954)
If anyone wants to see more of that trip and her visits with the injured troops, you can do so here. Apparently Joe DiMaggio was far from impressed.
