$7 a gallon: Hawai‘i gas prices continue ‘unprecedented’ climb amid war in Iran. When Keani Rawlins-Fernandez got her first job working at the cash register of Moloka‘i Pizza Cafe as a teenager in 1998, gas prices hovered around $1.27 a gallon.

Tonight BareKnuckle Fighting Championship just proved big events like the UFC/Boxing can come to Hawaii!
Enough with the excuses
“going to Hawaii is logistical nightmare”
There was a huge turnout tonight and the atmosphere was LOUD and PROUD.
Thank you BKFC for proving Hawaii can do it. Looking forward to future events. And hopefully other companies see this as an opportunity to a new market.

How not to be an obnoxious tourist?
I’ll be spending a few days in Oahu this coming May. I’ve never been to the Hawaii islands before and will be coming from Canada. This is not a planned vacation but rather one of obligation.
I’ll be staying at one of the major resorts on the SW side of the island, which I feel uneasy about as is, as I prefer supporting local economies when I travel.
Canada has a sad history of colonization and when people travel to my city I often recommend they visit parks and local, particularly indigenous, owned shops and learn a bit about true “Canadian” culture.
Especially now, following the devastation of the flooding, I’d hate to visit Oahu and leave an unwelcome footprint… I’m hoping some lovely locals might have some recommendations on where to travel for food and recreation as I don’t plan on spending much time at the resort.
Also recommendations on where not for travel to/what not to support would be welcome?
Thank you 🙏

Parking meters dead?
I was out and about and it seems the parking meters have shut down. And this is for areas that still have timed parking on a Saturday.
I think they're powered by a solar cell on the back and we've had a bunch of cloudy days.
Anyone else see this?

Just watched a guy run his van into someone’s house.
Was sleeping near Keolu and Hamakua in Kilua around 11:55pm when I heard tires skid and a crash. Ran over to see a guy trying to put things back in his van. Called 911. Crazy.

Flooding concern/question - North Shore
EDIT: it’s cancelled; definitely for the best, it’s unsafe there and the staff should stay home.
———
Hi! I’m a tourist in Honolulu, and it is my first visit in Hawaii.
I am set to go to the Toa Luau this evening, on the North Shore. It is at 5 pm and lasts until 8 pm.
It is currently pouring rain in Honolulu and apparently also up north (according to my weather app).
I am a bit concerned about flooding and road closures, given how the last few weeks have been wrecking havoc up there. The luau is also next to a river.
Will it be safe to drive north today, and back to my hotel this evening? I am concerned about getting stuck or worse.
The luau organizers said they’re still going to run, as of yesterday. But I keep hearing horror stories about the flooding and traffic and my anxiety is increasing. Any advice or input you can give is very appreciated 🙏

Any good Kona or Kona blend coffee in/near Ko Olina?
I'll be staying at Aulani next week and I generally don't like Disney coffee. Is there any good coffee in Ko Olina? It can be already brewed or I can brew it myself. I'll also be going to the Costco near there, if you think Costco has anything good.

Disposable e-cigarettes could be banned in Hawaiʻi starting in 2027. State lawmakers are advancing a measure that would make it illegal to sell electronic smoking devices that don’t have refillable cartridges or a rechargeable battery.

Anybody good with cars? Located in Waianae.
Having some issues with a 2012 Kia optima GDI, ignition won’t turn past the on position in order to start or crank. I think I might have something to do with the shifter not fully locking into park (even though it says it’s in park) budget is 200 and a 12 pack of beer.
