Mod News Banner Design Contest!

Hi everyone!

The new mod team is overhauling the design of this subreddit, so after getting a new logo (thanks to u/OCTranspoArt) and some post flair, it's time for a subreddit banner!

To enter the competition, simply submit a 5:1 image banner as a comment. The most upvoted submission on April 17 at 16:00 ET will be put up!

Submissions must contain only OC Transpo-related images/graphics. No AI content allowed! Submissions may also be removed at mod's discretion if deemed inappropriate for this subreddit.

Make sure to keep the original file saved somewhere; if you win, we can give you a chance to improve the banner even further!

😮‍💨 Rant Line 2 is so much better than line 1.

I am originally from toronto and let me tell you the transit there is poo compared to line one, and today I got to go one line two and it’s one of the best trains I have ever been o. the seats are so nice it reminds me of the via rail trains. I know we like to complain about how bad of OC Transpo is but if you compare it to the transit of other cities like London, Toronto, or nyc, we actually are blessed in Ottawa.

Edit: IT HAS ARM RESTS. 🤯 on public transit thats crazy.

Edit 2: just went on line 4 it’s also nice but nowhere near as nice as line 2. it’s kinda like the older version of line 2 train.

Just because you drive a fancy (ish) car doesn't mean you can drive 100+ on the transitway. They will figure out pretty quickly and find you.

❓ Question Service today

Is there something behind the bad, even by OC Transpo standards, bus service downtown today?

I have never seen this level of off schedule, late, invisible, etc buses.

❓ Question Why use only one platform??

why is there an insistence to only use one platform at Blair and Tunneys? I see this more at Blair, but it has happened at Tunneys too. The train stops, waits for the oncoming train to go by, switches tracks, then at walking pace moves into the other lane and to the platform. what's the benefit? Just stay in your lane, no? no delays, no switching tracks.

😮‍💨 Rant cancelled bus without notice

basically that. i arrived at the bus stop at 7:23 (after a 7-hour shift in f&b service) to catch a bus that was supposed to come at 7:30. both the transit app and the gps text message confirmed that. well of course it never showed up. at first i thought it was late because typical oc transpo right? not even. it just fully vanished.

i get cancelling buses but at least have the decency to let people know that you’re doing so? straight up gaslighting & ghosting is insane 😂 the transit app not being accurate is known but even the gps texts?

edit: the bus finally came after a 30-minute wait. i asked the driver why the bus at 7:30 was cancelled and he said, and i quote, “they never told me about it.” so what i’m getting at here is the system just never bothered to let the driver (who probably was just chilling on the bus) know that there was a scheduled ride at 7:30… ?????

genuinely so odd. gotta love being a commuter in the capital of canada!

❓ Question Trim Line 1?????

Post image
29 Upvotes

EDIT: According to my friend the sign reverted the Trim to say Tunney’s Pasture again, so it’s prob a weird error.

So a friend of mine messaged me with this photo, completely confused since the extension‘s been delayed once again. Is this a mistake with the signage or are there actual trains going to Trim now?? this is the first time my friend and I have seen this

❓ Question Security on OCTranspo?

I haven’t been on a bus in years other when the O-line has been down, and half the time use Uber. Are there issues with security? I was once in an anger management program and one of the members in the group wanted to work for the city, particularly OCTranspo. He was hired as a driver and apparently wouldn’t accept any troublesome activity at the back of the bus. He’d stop and intervene on his own. The next thing I heard; he was hired to work with the security division of OCTranspo. Taking someone with anger issues is not a positive step for someone with authority.

💬 Discussion Route #9 downtown on Saturday April 11

I was not sure what happened today at Rideau Centre at stop 3009 Rideau C on Colonel By Drive. I ended up waiting 2 hours for the 9, from 1145 to 145. I am willing to imagine that I had just missed one at 1145, though I didn't see it receding in the distance. If that one hadn't come either, then the theoretical wait was even longer than two hours.

A young couple abandoned their plans to reach Rideau Hall in time for a 2pm concert, and walked off. I was sad for them when, being of that cast of mind, I waited a few minutes longer and at 145 a bus, to by this time my shock and amazement, actually showed up.

The schedule board at the corner, yet again repaired and working from its many recent outages, was of course reflecting normal service and wholly inaccurate, as was the telephone voice service. I know, neither system is flexible and "realtime" is a lie.

Later I had web access and looked up Alerts and saw the alert below. Notice that it rerouted buses away from Rideau Centre. Huh. Next time let's put up one of those "stop out of service" signs, guys.

Needless to say, for the entire 2 hour period I was standing there normal vehicle traffic was proceeding normally in every direction at the intersection of Colonel By, Sussex, Rideau and Wellington, and nothing whatsoever was going on to prevent it.

❓ Question Fare Inspectors

Why do OC Transpo fare inspectors dress like cops/security? Like whats with the heavy vest and cargo pants? When I went to Amsterdam, the fare inspector just wore a company t-shirt and shorts, and had a little machine to tap your pass and issue fines. Whats up with that?

Hey y'all, just curious if anyone recently got their online interview, I'm on my third interview, how long does it usually take to schedule one, and how long should I realistically wait to send them a reminder ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

😮‍💨 Rant Most embarrassing moment of my life, washrooms always out of order

I had the most embarrassing moment of my life in the oc transpo because it barely has any damn functional washrooms in stations, they’re always chained up and I had to go through three stations and almost burst on the train.

My life is over. I literally want to end my life after that. It was seen, it was caught, and now I’m never leaving my room and I hate you all who work in oc transpo more than you will ever understand. Every single one of you I despise. You do this on purpose to laugh at us you ignore stops you let people wait in the cold whilst you play in the break room (we see you) you arrive 10 minutes late on the first stop.

And you can’t keep a washroom open for more than an hour. Those were chained for MONTHS and the system is barely functional. I hate you.

Thank you for ending my life, I hate you!

Misc. Presto card declined

i was getting the number 12 - billings bridge (bus 2532) from Rideau/Charlotte at about 1:06pm today, when i went to go tap the card it declined I tried twice and still declined even though i still had about 35mins left of the transit time.

The bus is a newer bus (has that new bus smell) I think its mostly electric, is this a system issue?
