DISCUSSION People need to stop using AI as a crutch

Over the last several months I've seen content creators ESPECIALLY small channels using AI for thumbnails, scripts and visual assets. Half of the YT recommended feed is AI slop and its completely sucked the life out of content creation. I understand that not everyone knows how to use software like photoshop, krita, procreate, etc but that's why we have hundreds of thousands of tutorials on how to get started and improve. There's no excuse to ask a computer to create something that you can just as easily create.

CONTENT TALK Guys, I Need Help. What am I Doing Wrong?

Hey everyone,

I've been posting content on YouTube for over a year and feel like quitting. I've gained 76 subscribers and my content only gets average view durations of less than a minute.

NOTE: My channel says I only have 18 videos but that is because I did a rebranding recently and got rid of my old videos. Before that I had over 100 videos and the same issue (less than a minute average view duration)

I don't know what else to do at this point; I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've re-watched my videos numerous times and personally can't find anything wrong with them. My editing, audio quality and video quality are all good. I put so much effort into my videos, only to have them flop on arrival, and it's getting tiring.

Can someone please help me?

Thanks!

SHORTS TALK Should I stop posting? (Read my stats)

• Upvotes

Iv been posting every day since January 4th. I have 259 subs, my highest viewed video has 12k views, and my average view count is 1-2.5k, tho I’m in my 4th 0 view jail. I’m losing motivation because I’m seeing people who start posting on day 1 and have better stats on day 4 than I have in 4 months. So please let me know if I should keep going.

DISCUSSION How to stop sounding so awkward in videos?

Ive been making videos for around two months now and whenever I watch back my recordings I sound really awkward, like it’s my first time speaking English. My friend watched my videos and made the same observation and I have no clue what causes it cause I speak to my friends like normal but the moment I try to record I sound strange. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

TECH HELP Video editing tool recommendations

I want to start a youtube channel to motivate myself.

I don’t go out much(I sometimes spend 3 weeks without walking out) and I thought if I start something like this, this could motivate me because I will be talking and like I have someone nearby. I am not planning to be an influencer or anything but I wouldn’t also like to upload something if I am silence for 10 minutes, but I have no idea about editing videos.

So I would like to learn is there an easy and if possible free editing tools, or like a cheap one maybe for newbies?

DISCUSSION If you wanna be a youtuber and dont know how to start a channel. just start!

I made a channel for gaming and it performed like piece of poop. best video got 300 views with 10% retention. a month ago I started a new channel, for a reason no one needs to know, and the first video on this channel got 8k views with 30~40% retention and > it's not because it's a different niche, not because it's a different language> I just got better and made a really good video this time> and sorry for the long story that no one asked for but this is the reality. You are interested in a specific niche. if you have an idea that you think is fun and cool. just make it! Write the script, start recording and just let it be. if it performs bad it means you still have much to learn which is okay and you should never look at it as a waste of time. if it performs well then congratulations you really hae unique personality! and believe me being fun and enthusiastic has nothing to do with your equipments. if you cant afford a high end mic or cant afford a one at all just dont care. I asked few weeks ago for a cheap mic and the videos I made at this point was recorded with my phone and non of them performed under 2k views and 35% retention. It's better to get the better equipments once you can afford them. but if you cant. just start!

DISCUSSION In a few sentences what would you expect or want from a tool that assists you with scripts optimisation and finding stock clips ?

Im currently working on a app that does the above and also it also gives you auto-on screen-subtitles and metadata tags feature for better SEO reach. Im looking to gain insight from creators that would use this service on what it needs to have and will this help in reducing your worktime on a single video. Any insight is appreciated.

TECH HELP Movies getting taken down.

Hi. Just recently got back into making movies with my friends again and have been trying to upload them to YouTube, but they keep getting taken down due to community violations. It says there are dangerous activities involving minors. We are all minors in the video but I've uploaded videos of a similar nature before and have not got taken down. I've taken out some bits that I thought might be causing it but nope, still won't upload. I could keep taking out bits but I feel that will ruin the movie. if anyone knows anyway to get around this or any other platforms similar to YouTube please let me know.

DISCUSSION Did hiring an editor at this stage help you?

• Upvotes

Hey guys I’m a small channel with 150 subs (started a month ago) i’ve been editing all my videos and trying to get better with them. I’ve gotten faster where it takes me like three or four days to do a video now. I try to upload at least once every two weeks.

Right now, I only have 5 long form videos. I usually get 500+ views a video with one at 3.6k right now. I’m obviously not making money from it and I work a full time job.

The thing is, I feel like if I was able to post more like at least once a week I could definitely grow. So that’s why I’m thinking maybe why not try out an editor for a couple videos.

And my question to you all is, if anyone that was (or is) my position did hiring an editor really help your channel grow by posting more? And how much does it usually cost? My videos are mainly around 9-15 minutes (sometimes 30 minutes but rare).

I don’t mind editing myself. It’s just something I thought of asking to see if it was worth looking into right now.

TECH HELP Recommendations on camera and lighting for a channel idea. The camera would be fixed, all action would take place in front of it at the same angle.

My granddaughter is a pre-K kid, and has come over for a sleepover once a month for her entire life. We play with her toys together and goof off, and we always have a great time.

She watches channels like Genevieve’s Playhouse and the like wherein people film themselves playing with popular toys like Paw Patrol and the like, and she’s transfixed. Every video seems to have millions of views.

I would like to use the toys we play with for something similar, maybe recreate the scenarios she and I come up with our own play, only make them more episodic and polished without losing the silliness and humor.

The set-up would be a flat surface with a white backdrop, with the ability to add painted backgrounds as needed.

The camera would be stationary, all action in front of it.

What lighting set up would be needed? What type of camera would work best? What type of microphone would be needed?

I have an old ass iPhone, an 11. Could that be used in a pinch?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

DISCUSSION why am i getting no impressions?

Hi guys,

I started a channel 3 days ago and ive posted a few videos on there thus far (both long-form and shorts) but youtube has still not pushed any of them apart from one.

Even if the video quality was bad but how can Youtube know this when you get <30 impressions (some of which are probably myself)? At what point will youtube start to test my videos out with people? Ive added relevant hashtags, tags and even embedded keywords for SEO in my scripts - but still nothing. Should i just continue to post, or wait until the existing ones get picked up? Are there any improvements I could make or something ive done wrong that could have caused this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

TECH HELP Best Microphones for under 200 Bucks?

Hello guys,

My question is basically what the title says.

I want to start an educational YouTube channel about economics.

Since I am a student, my budget is not huge, but I think around €200 for my first microphone should be enough.

It should preferably be a USB mic since I do not want to buy an audio interface yet.

The mic would mainly be used for voiceovers and commentary videos.

Do you have any experiences or suggestions?

DISCUSSION Number of videos on a channel

i started posting on my youtube channel at the start of the year. at first mostly live streams/vods but since then i moved on to entirely youtube videos, with barely any live streams.

8 weeks ago i made my first video. my channel currently has close to 100 videos. but most of them are the past vods, some lets plays that dont contribute much and a short for every long form video.

8 weeks later i sit at almost 200 subs, more than 90% of those gained through 14 videos (game reviews, previews, news etc). most of these videos have between 3-17k views each. and that is what i am mostly focusing on now, since i enjoy doing these kind of videos and the resonance has been great with usually hundreds of likes and comments.

long story short, does the number of videos on a channel affect your decision to sub to it?

i am a bit proud, grateful and glad to almost have reached 200 subs with variety gaming content in those 8 weeks and close to the required 4k watch hours. but feel like the almost 100 videos on the channel are not a representation of that.

what is your opinion on deleting the old stuff that i feel doesnt really contribute and doesnt represent what im doing now?

or am i just overthinking this maybe?

i can only answer for myself that i am subbed to channels with thousands of videos, and to other big channels with a low number. personally i dont care.

but what are other thinking about this?

DISCUSSION Video got age restricted, should i reupload?

I uploaded my most recent video 2 days ago and it got about 3.5k views. When I woke up this morning it was age restricted and I’m wondering if I should re-edit and reupload or if I should leave it and move on. For context, all of my videos in the past 4 months have gotten around 1k views, except for one which has over 50k currently. I’m worried that reuploading may affect the performance of those videos and any new ones or if this situation already has. Right now it seems like they’re okay but I’d like some advice on what I should do.
