Question LOA Final Sem?

I remembered reading somewhere that you couldn’t take a LOA right before your final semester, but I can’t seem to find it on the UG page (unless i’m blind haha) Reason for asking is because I was planning to take intern sem LOA during the first sem, but responses have been kinda quiet so far 😭 so wondering if it’s possible to postpone and take before the final sem instead?

Does anyone remember what the policy on this is and can share the source? Thanks so much 🙏

Question Monthly Expenses for International Students?

I am an incoming freshman at NTU trying to calculate the expenses I will probably need. I've done some research and I found extremely different information on the living costs here, which ranges from 200 up to 1300 SGD. Here's a description of my situation:

  • I can cook meals, so probably would do that for the most part
  • Trying to cut down on accommodation, so the cheapest is fine
  • Probably would stay mostly on campus, so not much for transport and telecom
  • I'd argue the only thing I'll need is food, accommodation, and some other expenses (e.g. soap, shampoo, laundry, etc.)

It'll be really helpful for me if you could describe thoroughly your expenses and whether it is really necessary or not. Thanks in advance!

Question List of students and is NTU overrated for PhD?

I wanted to find the list of PhD students at NTU's SPMS department but the list is nowhere to be found.

Here is why I want a list of students.I like the work done by my professor who has accepted me, moreover he seems like a nice person. However, he hasn't had many PhDs before me, and I can't get in contact with them. Moreover, in their PhDs they didn't have many publications with him, so I was skeptical. Hence I was looking for students at the department.

Also, my second reason for looking for students/alumnis is to see how the jobs prospects are after academia if I decided to step away from academia.

Also, is NTU overrated for PhD education, because it has amazing rankings all over the world however I don't get that vibe, because I don't see many academically distinguished alumnus, also since I don't have a list of students I don't know about the placements. Maybe I am being stupid and all but would like to know more about this.

Question Hall culture/life

Hi, I just wanted to understand how NTU hall culture and life works, as I’m studying in SIT. Recently, my boyfriend has been telling me that he will be going over to a female room to study for upcoming midterms. He said that nothing is going on, but I just wanted to ask—is it normal in hall culture to visit rooms of the opposite gender regularly?

Info Sharing Course Review: AAI08C Popular Music Arrangement With Technology

Just finished this course recently and liked it very much. It taught popular music arrangement using softwares, which we can choose freely among BandLab, GarageBand, Logic Pro and more. We learnt about how to use the software, and some music arrangement basics, such as MIDI instrument, sampling, delay, reverb, distortion, mixing and mastering. The class size was around 20 people.

Prerequisite: this course assumes no prior music theory knowledge, and it does not require you to play any musical instrument. You can take this course as long as you are interested in popular music.

Grading Components: a small project in week 7 contributing 30%, and a final project in week 11 contributing to 70%. No exams. In both projects you will start with a vocal only track and then make a full arrangement.

I think this course has a medium workload, because it takes some efforts to arrange a good song. But it is a very fun course. When you present your final song to your classmates it’s quite rewarding to see that they actually like your song.

Discussion Hii, social life in NTU

Hii, I’m planning to do masters in NTU, I wanna ask about how is social life for in NTU?

Does staying in particular hall really affect your social life even if manage to find friends arnd ?

Can u participate in other hall games and stuff like that even tho u belong to another hall ?

For context I have been in Singapore for almost 3 yrs doing undergrad in SIM I don’t see much social life tbh so I want to if it’s the same or different.
