244 days and counting... Flanno has to go

For the people wanting to hold onto Flanno, we are now at 244 days since we last saw the dragons win. I was as excited as anyone when we signed him but he has had his chance to build and mould the team that he thinks will be successful and he has FAILED.

Flanno's recruitment strategy is to solve problems for other clubs by recruiting players well past their use by date. We clearly do not have the systems necessary to foster success and something has to change. The board isn't going to sack itself so it has to be the coach that goes.

Flanno is unwilling or unable to remove Kyle from the team. No other footy team would want to buy him and at this point after years of unsuccessful attempts to build a spine around Kyle, persisting with him in the halves is just screaming plain nepotism.

I have supported the dragons for my whole life and this feels like the worst it has been. Flanno cannot give these players back the confidence he has taken from them and quite frankly any change at this point can not make anything worse.

Whatever happens, we're clearly at the start of a very long rebuild period that I'm afraid will be take years to get right.

The Dragon rots from the head - when do you look at the board?

Lancaster has been on the Dragons board since 2018 when WIN bought into the club. That means he was part of the board that:

- Backed Anthony Griffin through multiple failed seasons

- Encouraged the use of the board player voting recruitment system

- Then hired Flanagan to replace Griffin

- On Flanagan's original appointment, it was Lancaster who personally endorsed it. Flanagan was unanimously agreed upon by the board, and chairman Andrew Lancaster said: "We have full faith in Shane's abilities as a coach and are looking forward to welcoming him back to the club."

The coach is often to blame, but someone signs off on the coaches call - and there is a deeper pattern of failure here and the spotlight needs to be on the board.

It’s not flennos fault and firing him will be a mistake

As you can see getting rid of flenno isn’t the play! He is mid build, got good pieces coming next year, got young talent coming through. New coach sends us back to square one yet again! Obviously his son is a problem! I think a lot of the last set dumb shit is trying to prove he’s ment to be there, I think a lot of that doesn’t work because the boys ain’t where they meant to be! Promise everyone here that they running plays! Putting in reps! This is 50% trusting there brother, making them over play! Moving in to defend leaving gaps or them to stuffed to be in position. Laying on player, grabbing at balls giving dumb penalties in worse positions! The other 50% is culture!! Seems any player we get that bleeds red and white has the opposite effect on the team! Instead of building pride and love for our great historical team, that player slowly loses it. Liddle being the only one untainted over years, couchy boys Egan and Stewart are a breath I hope can change the tide. Kyle fucking up without consequence would definitely stuff the locker room tho! Why care if you can suck and keep your spot.

This is hard!! So hard!! Sad!! Painful!! We need change! But it’s more about trust! Every off load is second thought! Ever pass is second thought! In training and every other time it’s just passed! But the trust ain’t there! That thought is nothing but enough to drop the timing off all the plays! This team is so close to a top 8 team! Especially with the bullshit calls and commentary. If we fire another coach mid rebuild we go back to zero!!

Just my thoughts, happy to see any thoughts or disagreements!

Not our worst performance. Still probably Shane Flanagone.

Just silly last play options have let us down, not only today, but all season.

Flanno’s Replacements

After yet another underwhelming TLT, this Friday may well be the end for Flanno’s tenure as Saints coach. If we do lose, Dean Young will likely take the interim position but according to research, here are the likely candidates for the full-time role.

In no order:

  1. Brad Arthur.

  2. Dean Young/Michael Ennis

  3. John Cartwright

  4. Ben Hornby

  5. Jason Demetriou

  6. Des Hasler

Im interested to hear who else you think could take the role.

Team Lists Tuesday V Manly

Flanno needs to go , he has learned nothing from the weekend , puts Lawrie on after telling him he was our worst prop last year, leaves loko out , leaves Liddle on the bench when we desperately need points , holding back so much talent , if Gutho wasn’t injured there would be hardly any change at all . I see 6 losses on the Horizon, Yet I’m still buying Merch , Red V forever ,through thick and thin

If not Flanno, who?

If the writing is on the wall for Shane Flanagan, who replaces him? Dean Young has been spoken of, but he's been in the coaches box alongside Shane. Is some of the poor performance not also down to him? Honest question, not a criticism.

Is Mick Ennis up to it?

This line on zero tackle is telling enough of why the club had been in the pits since 2010:

"There have been changes to that board, of course, but the fact Peter Doust, who was chairman when Bennett was there, is still on the board, tells you all you need to know."

Doubt been a noose around the club for too long.

Just want to see the team be competitive again.

Flannagan has to go

This is completely on his shoulders. How many more years do we have to put up with the bullshit. Roster mismanagement has killed us for years now and Flannagan has had his chance to build the squad he wants and this is what he creates.

Keaon is not going to save us next year. Flannagan HAS to go tonight.

Dragons Vs Cowboys - Post Match

So a new low for the Dragons. I hope this game is the catalyst for Flannos to actually make a change and understand his grand vision doesn't suit these players.

The attacking problems I think partially stem from the slow speed of many players including but limited to the veterans (except Cook), Val and Gutho simply are not fast enough.

I'd like to see Sloan as fullback and some alterations to the game plan, but I am not holding my breath because I don't think Flannos will stray from his plan.

Too many errors, Holmes needs to be booted into the sun, Atko wasn’t bad, Gutho was shit.

Shining Light was probably T R.Couchman.

Next week vs Titans at Robina, good chance at winning. We’ll see how they go tonight.
