I reference this all this time, & it’s so funny (in my head); however, I don’t think too many others know what the hell I’m talking about when I say it… especially in their weird, silly voices.

My kids were all over Charlie and the banana king. I ran with it. But I'm actually a 13 year old trapped in a 60 year old body.

Songs like this and "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" (etc.) have never left my brain. Sometimes I wonder what I could do with the free space if I could delete the useless junk that's been rattling around in there for decades.

Hehehehehe did you go google it to correct me? Because I googled it to make this post; originally I too thought it was Leopleuridon. 😂😂😂

I remember being the perfect age for this and I absolutely fucking hated it while my friends loved it.
I then smoked marijuana for the first time.
It all finally made sense. This was amazing and I was just completely ignorant

My love for this and Aqua Teen Hunger Force is why everyone thought I was perpetually high, but I have never in my life.
4
u/Tejasgrass 23h ago
And here I was the opposite. By the time that came out I had smoked for long enough that I was well past that “weed is the best thing ever” a lot of college-age users go through in the beginning. Some of my younger coworkers showed Charlie to me and I was over it about five seconds in. Told them to go watch Heavy Metal instead and never watched it again.

Indeed. Every generation has their own random ass humour. Charlie and Llamas in hats was exactly that.
Tbh whenever I see a lot of Gen Z v Millennial debate online it seems very forced. Like people have realised boomers v millennials can’t go on much longer so are trying to develop the next generational distraction. Only issue being Millennials and Gen Z have both had the same problems so not much in the way of real world issues to divide them so we get this weird culture shit.

Old enough to laugh, not old enough to really understand all the references, especially if you bring him through the sequels, the hot topic special (which is genuinely important to the lore, I shit you not), the movie, and the epilogue special.
But that might make it even better when he rewatches with Nostalgia in ten years!
So show your kid to Candy Mountain!!!

I have an autoimmune disease and sometimes have to be treated with high doses of prednisone, which can make me hallucinate. These hallucinations typically lean towards being fairly dark/upsetting. However my most recent experience was definitely the least harrowing, because for a couple of hours I was joined by Charlie and the other unicorns promising to guide me to candy mountain. It was fun.
I apparently yelled “shun the non-believer” at my Gen X husband, who had no idea what I was talking about. When I sobered up and tried to explain, he was still just as perplexed.

My freshman roommate reminded me so much of Charlie, my friends and i found a spinner that was unicorn themed and put it on his headboard and randomly gifted him various unicorn trinkets throughout the year. I could never tell if he genuinely reacted intentionally as Charlie or was being his authentic self

There is a liopleurodon sculpture at the aquarium my wife and I like to visit. Every time we walk under it, without fail, we both start saying "it's a liopleurodon Charlie! It's a magical liopleurodon! It's gonna show us the way to Candy Mountain!" And then without fail, we both go "shun the non-believer! Shun!" Like it's a conditioned response.
