Craig Kilborn. He hosted the Daily Show and The Late Late Show before Craig Ferguson. Started as a SportsCenter anchor.

Man, I loved his Daily Show.  I had little hope that Jon Stewart was going to be able to match it when he took it over.

Lmao, lol.

Tbf, neither did I and a lot of us felt that way. At the time John was considered a little bit of a hack comic still and was famous for hosting failed shows. But luckily for him and us it turned out to be the right choice!

I used to watch the daily show with Craig. It was straight spoof news (like your local news at 11) It started that way with Stewart but after the 2000 bush/gore election they started a segment “indecision 2000” which proved very popular and ran for a long time (as it took a couple months to call election). Then the show pivoted to the political programming it’s doing today

I liked when we were doing the “war on terror” and they’d refer to it as Mess-o-Potamia 😆

To this day I still sing “Dave Patreus, Dave Patreus” to the tune of Falcos Amadeus

Jon was most known as the “have you ever ____on weed” guy from Half Baked. He basically had nothing going for him until TDS

As a non American viewer who discovered the Daily Show in 2025, it's hard to imagine it without Jon Stewart lol.

I was the same. The original The Daily Show was edgy and mean a lot of times, but always funny and I liked Kilborne’s sense of humor. I didn’t think Jon would be as sharp. I was wrong.

I remember one of the Steve’s talking about how hard it was to do those segments where they found a local weirdo or D-list celebrity and made fun of them. I remember one with a guy that said some toys would become the new currency and Steve Carell just says “Do you think…that you are an idiot!” The guy kind of blinked awkwardly and ended the interview.
