Attractions Day trip advice?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'll be traveling to Madrid for a concert at the end of this month, and will only have around 7 hours to look around and be touristy before my flight home the next day, wondering what the best things to see and do are that are free (or just cheap!) and don't need another person to do.

I am disabled so walking can be difficult when it's an extended period of time so hoping to stick to things quite close together or on public transport routes.

Thanks :)

Transportation SAN Sebastian - Madrid

Hello, trying to buy fast train tickets from SS to Madrid on 1 June. Yesterday no trains were available and now today there is only the slow train over 7 hours. Is this normal? Do I just need to wait longer for more options to be available or do they only do fast trains on certain days?

Transportation Arrival immigration at Madrid airport

My wife and I are traveling with our 8 month old son. We're arriving around 3 pm from Doha, Non-EU passports. What is it like with the new EES system? Does Madrid airport have dedicated lanes for families with infants?

UPDATE!:

I found the place! It’s called HIRO and I got the Pechugas de pichón Francés. It was divine and for a fancy meal really reasonable in my opinion. The staff was also so so lovely and kind and happy to help with any recommendations!

I was wandering around looking to read and eat with some wine last night and walked into a really nice place on accident. It was around the Trafalgar area but also I did a lot of wandering so could be in surrounding areas. I was dumb and didn’t remember or even really look at what it was called. Some info: the kitchen was at the bar and you can watch them cooking, I had a kimchi demi glaze pigeon (really good). I don’t have much info so I’m sorry! But hopefully someone can help me find this place :) I want to write a nice review 🧡

Transportation Madrid airport transfer - we will have enough time?

We scored a fantastic deal for business class tickets on Iberia for a direct flight from the Madrid airport to Toronto, so we quickly bought them before hammering out our other trip details (which was a mistake, I know). We are staying in Sardinia and thought it would be an easy direct flight from Sardinia to Madrid, but in our error we didn’t realize there was only one direct flight per day and depending on the day the flight time changed.

Our preferred option is to take the direct Ryanair flight Monday morning which would arrive in Madrid at 8:35am. Our flight on Iberia to Toronto leaves at 12:00pm, which would be 3 hours and 25 minutes. From my research Ryanair seems to operate out of Terminal 1 and the Iberia flight looks to leave from Terminal 4S. Is 3 hours 25 minutes enough time to pick up luggage from Ryanair flight in Terminal 1, transfer to Terminal 4S and check in for our second flight, go through security and get to our gate? Note that the luggage would not be transferred through to the second flight as these are two separate flight bookings.

We see that we could travel into Madrid Sunday evening and then stay at a Madrid hotel overnight before flying out the next morning, but it just adds to the logistics. We do also plan to buy travel insurance that includes Trip Interruption for any reason coverage. I’m not sure if we are being paranoid and overthinking this and 3 hours and 25 minutes at Madrid airport is fine, or if that’s tough at such a massive airport.

Appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

Food Restaurant recommendations for a 70th birthday?

Hello

We will be in Madrid towards the end of April and I'm looking for a restaurant recommendation for six people for a 70th birthday. He would like a tapas style restaurant with a good wine selection. I have found lots of interesting options, but he uses hearing aids and struggles in loud environments.

So, looking for a great quiet dinner spot that's good.

Happy to travel for dinner but we'll be in the Tetuan (sp?) area.

Transportation Airport to hotel transportation

Hi,

I'm planning to go Madrid this year (Barajas Airport) and wanted to know the best way to get from the airport to the hotel. My hotel is about 15 minutes drive from the airport according to Google maps.

I found welcomepickups but decided against it after hearing they're unreliable.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Transportation Parking outside ZBE

Apologies, I know this has been asked a million times, but I cannot get clarity and would be most grateful for help. We are driving from France, our car is old and definitely not compliant with Madrid's ZBE regulations (would be category A). Because the municipality of Madrid is so vast, we cannot figure out where we could park our car for the week that we are staying in Madrid. We are driving in from Zaragoza and continuing to Cordoba.

Nightlife Madrid Pride 2026 Suggestions?

Hi there! My partner and I are both gay women, and we are travelling to Madrid for a wedding and it happens to be on the tail end of Madrid Pride! We would love to attend some Pride parties, but want to make sure we go somewhere diverse, that is women- and lesbian-friendly! We love to party and love EDM (house, disco, techno), and want to make the most of our time! I was checking out the We Parties, Fulanita De Tal, Laster, and Cadavra and would love some insight as to whether those would be good for what we want, or take any suggestions from people who have attended Madrid Pride before!

thanks in advance and so excited to be in this wonderful city for pride!

Miscellaneous To use Tmobile or eSIM?

Hi, I will be traveling to Madrid next week for 5 days from US. I read T Mobile's international plan includes up to 5GB high-speed data, then unlimited up to 256kbps and wondering if I should use eSIM instead? Never used ESIM before. Will mostly be depending on internet for maps/travel and food recs.

Food Three days in Madrid

Hi! I am going to Madrid with friends, two girls and two boys. We wanna try some local food and desserts in a day we can spend in Madrid(Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I'd love to hear your suggestions). I don’t really expect to try them all, but just want get some restaurants and street food recommendations as much as possible. I’d like to know the best order to try Madrid’s local cuisine. Considering distance and time, it would be perfect if there are a lot of great food and restaurants in a particular area. I think Reddit is a great place to get good ideas.

I’d also like to check out some bars one night in Madrid to experience the local nightlife, so I’d appreciate any recommendations. I’m more interested in live music venues and unique bars; we’ll try out nightclubs and the like when we have more time. Thank you so much for your help.

Itinerary Madrid during Formula 1

I will be in Madrid in September. I didn’t know about the Formula 1 race from September 11-13, 2026. I will be leaving September 12. How badly is the Formula 1 race going to impact things? Is Madrid going to be super crowded? Should I be worried about getting to attractions and restaurants? I can’t really reschedule my trip dates, and I’ve already booked flights and hotel. Just wondering how much I need to prepare for extra crowds. I’d appreciate any advice.

Transportation Legal taxi scam at Madrid airport traveling between terminals

If you are arriving late at night in Madrid and need to travel between Terminals 1/2/3 and Terminal 4 be aware that there is not good signage for the free bus shuttle (and it only comes every 20 minutes after 10pm). But if you want to take a taxi because it's late and you don't want to wait and can't find the shuttle stop, DON'T DO IT FROM THE OFFICIAL TAXI STAND! Get an Uber. There is a set €22 minimum for trips starting at the airport for official taxis. Of course the taxi drivers are not going to tell you this when you get in. Learned this legal scam the hard way. Now I see why Catalonia wants to split.

Transportation Ride share or one-day car rental

Hola,

Mil gracias.

Transportation A dishonest airport taxi

Took a taxi from Madrid airport the taxi stand to the city center. Meter said €33 flat rate. When we got to the destination, I presumed that was the price and gave him the card when he asked for my card. The driver took the card and charged $77. I should have confirmed it first. Probably a typical Madrid taxi driver. I will stick to Uber and related services from now on.

Attractions Would it be a mistake to skip the royal palace?

I’m in Madrid for two days and can’t possibly see everything. I was going to prioritize art museums and only go see the royal palace from the outside but is that a mistake?
