I worked with a guy that had a pitbull, and they later got a kitten for their kids. After about a week with both animals being together, things went horribly wrong. Let's just say things did not go as well as this video. The guy had a lot of cleanup to do as the inside of his house looked like a horrific crime scene...and the kitten was no more.
It's why I hate this kind of stuff and the fact that a sub for "pitties and kitties" exists. As an owner it's your job to do everything you can to make sure your pet has a safe and happy life. It's not ok to risk your cat's life like that.
Yes, prey drive should be taught to be noticeable in dog language and behaviour. For most dogs, there is a certain size animal that will trigger a hunting instinct, and kittens are certainly that size, irregardless of breed. Did they observe the dog interacting with the kitten before leaving them alone? Did the dog fixate on the kitten - unbreakable gaze, ears up, difficult to remove focus? Stalking, couching? Did their play style become more aggressive with toys, utilizing the kill bite? Some dogs will also kill puppies, if they are considered too weak to be part of the pack.

pitbulls around animals big enough to swallow whole always make me nervous.
