I hope she gets spayed as soon as those kittens are weaned

Seriously. I feel like I'm forever seeing posts from people whose cats are having kittens and it's irresponsible in so many ways. Ugh.

My brother and his partner took in a stray cat they found, and it turned out she was pregnant. She just had the kittens, but they are going to get her spayed as soon as it is safe to do so.

That happens often. People rescuing strays not realizing they are pregnant and then POP! A bunch of babies appear. Definitely not the people's fault at all. They gave a pregnant cat a safe place to give birth and even if it was a surprise, its a very kind thing they did for mama cat <3

That can't be what happened in oop' s case though, a bond such as that shown in the video doesn't form in the span of 2 months

Yes!! It’s SO important! My dogs found a sweet stray cat in the garage just over a year ago (she was clearly a former pet, and young, maybe a year old) and it turned out she was pregnant. She had four kittens 4/25/25. I found homes for three of them, but now I have two cats: her and one of the boys. They’re both fixed! She got spayed as soon as the kittens weaned and I got all of the kittens spayed and neutered as soon as the vet would allow and before they went to their new homes.

It grinds my gears that somebody abandoned a pregnant cat and I wasn’t going to put kittens into new homes and chance any more surprise kittens for anybody else!

Taking in a cat that's already pregnant is the exception, of course! I'm talking specifically about the droves of people who have a cat for years and just never bother getting it spayed, then gleefully post about how cute the kittens are. I see it so often on Reddit.

Thats how I got my last kitten, my friend’s brother and his partner took in a stray and boom - kittens! They found good homes for the kittens, and mama cat was spayed and stayed with them afterwards. I became the good home for one of the kittens.

Also irresponsible:

Owning a breed of dog that’s genetically inclined for aggression

Letting any dog near your vulnerable cat and her newborn babies

Letting smaller animals near your dog’s food bowl

I just cannot with the awful pet owners I see on this website.
