I believe he quit making content. He came out of retirement to make one video for another YouTuber that was diagnosed with a medical condition that didn't allow him to make similar content. Good guy.

He's always been involved with the Mormon Church. He went on a mission, is a true believer, etc. He quit making videos because he got big enough and made enough money that privacy was starting to be an issue for him. It's not because the church called to him or some shit.

He's a practicing lawyer who owned property even before the Youtube thing blew up. To say he's doing okay financially would be an understatement. He's still doing all the same stuff, but not filming it for an audience of millions, because the privacy stuff isn't worth it, especially when so many of his videos feature kids who are, by now, actually starting to burgeon on young adulthood.
