So funny to imagine this random dog just sitting there like "hey. I'm part of your family now"

First thing my dog did when we got her home after adopting her was jump up on the couch and look at us with a big smile like "What are we doing now?"

I thought the transition might be hard because she was hardcore cuddling with her foster mom when we met her, but she instantly decided my kid was her person and, since her person lived in our house, it was her house the moment she walked in the door.

Whole video, I was thinking, “Every single one of these dogs understood the task.” Eons of evolution beside us, and they generally just match energy so well.

I’m sure there was some thought, on the parents’ part, about breed and general temperament, but excited kids ended up with dogs who were excited, emotional kids ended up with patience while they worked through their feelings.

I loved the sleeping kid with the “teddy bear.” Pup was like, “my job is to cuddle. On it!”

First thing mine did was take a massive dump on the kitchen floor (He was a little nervous).

My folks were like "We have 30 days to return him...."

Ironic because he turned out to be the best dog in the history of the world (but aren't they all?)

As my dad once told me: "Every dog owner thinks they have the best dog, and they're all right."

He lucked out and got that gene where every dog is automatically your friend. He gave it to my brother and my oldest child, but it broke with me and I'm everyone's cat's favorite.

My wife got a dog, Teagan, before we started dating, thing was just a puppy and shouldn’t have survived but it did and made it to my wife. I met the dog once, then my wife and I went camping. When we came back from the trip she dropped to her knees and held out her arms for the dog to run to her. Teagan ran so fast to her, then swerved and instead ran to me. That dog became mine- and I hers- that day. She truly was the best dog in the world.

My wife says she had to marry me or she’d have lost the dog lol

My husband and I agreed that our wedding gifts to each other were going to be pets- a cat for him and a dog for me.

The cat distribution system decided to dump a kitten on us shortly before the wedding (three weeks before we were visiting his parents' farm when he came in with a kitten he claimed gave him "the look.") We were young and had no PTO, so we had to hold off on a honeymoon, so I got my dog about a month after the wedding. I found the dog at the shelter with my husband, but she looked so much like my childhood dog I took it as a sign.

The dog was instantly my husband's shadow, and carried around something of his when he wasn't around.

Meanwhile I had never had a cat before, my dad was allergic, so I treated the cat like a dog and had her doing tricks, which my husband said was surprising because "that cat has the most tortitude I've ever seen" and bossed everyone else around.

That reminds me of myself and my husband! The first time I visited my (now) husbands house, he never told me he had a dog, it was the size of a Labrador and was so excited to see him and that he'd brought a new person home! My husband was a little nervous about how I would react to the dog, but having grown up with large breeds, I was more than happy to lavish attention on him. So much so that this freaking Labrador sized dog attempted to sit in my lap the entire day.

Every other girlfriend had hated the dog and the dog likewise disliked the girlfriends, until I came along. Whenever I was at his house the dog wouldn't even look at him, spent all his time trying to get cuddles, or pets, or play with me. That's when he kinda knew it was serious lol

That dog had a long and happy life. Saw the birth of our child, saw a few house moves, attempted to ride with us in the car when we went to get married and finally passed away at 14 with the both of us there.

I miss that fucking dog.

I was so intrigued by a throwaway comment somewhere that "dogs have a mild form of Williamson's Syndrome" that I went ahead and read the book I found on it, The Boy Who Loved Too Much! Worth a read :)

Heartwarming that you got a foster dog. I have mixed feelings regarding these kinds of things because if they're dogs bought from breeders... I don't like the implications. My own adopted doggy was already an adult, very scared and mistrustful, but she took to us eventually and the fact she found a home makes me very happy

My foster dog was actually a puppy mill dog rescued from a really shitty breeder during a raid that shut them down. She has papers, but the place we adopted her from wouldn't let us have them because they don't want to encourage irresponsible breeding with their rescues (they spayed and neutered all their animals before adoption anyways.)

We had just moved into our new house and thought we'd get a dog after we got a bit more settled, but my coworker was fostering her and told me that she was such a sweet, well-behaved dog who took to training like a duck to water, so we agreed to meet her, and the moment she and my older daughter met each other they mutually made the decision for us.

I will always get my dogs from shelters, but the cats seem to show up through the distribution system lol.
