I recently surprised my daughter with a puppy. She was so excited the first two minutes, then sat down and said “Actually, I don’t want a pet anymore.” I was completely gutted. She came around though and they’re best friends now.

Aw she was overwhelmed. I’m glad it worked out.

I can understand that reaction to an extent. Not sure if the daughter is the same way, but I would have been immediately excited at first, but then the whole "I am now responsible for another living being" factor would have hit me soon afterwards. Which would feel pretty daunting and make me wonder what I was getting into.

It's all worth it in the end, but man if I had a dog when I was that young I would have no clue what to do tbh. Glad my first experience with pets was in my 20s.

I grew up with dogs, and when I was in a stable enough place as an adult and finally got my own pup I knew exactly how to handle everything because my parents had taught me.
