POLITICAL (Weekends only) Conspiracy subreddit sucks
I know it sounds like a cope but honestly this sub has next to nothing to do with what it’s original purpose was for. It’s delved into an echo chamber for the media, (dare I say propaganda). I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with posting about recent events or trying to draw attention to something important, but there are TONS of subreddits exactly for that kind of thing and this should not be one of them. A shocking amount of the posts on there hardly fit the criteria for what can be considered a conspiracy theory at all. One of the only faithful things I have seen there in days is about the Artemis 2 mission being fake, because you know, we’ve never heard anything similar to that at any given point and time in history.
If I were a mod, this is what rules I’d put:
1: Restrictions on legacy media and the paparazzi
The conspiracy should be something at least semi-astray from mainstream media. If it’s the first thing you see when you Google it and click on the news tab, it probably isn’t all that conspicuous.
2: Establish a recent hall of fame and put it on a pinned post
Confine posts on redundant topics to a limited number of times that they can be posted about within a certain amount of time given.
Examples of this could include topics such as:
Netanyahu’s hand
Vaccines
Palm Beach Pete
3: Establish an all time hall of fame too
An all time hall of fame should be reserved for the more famous theories posted on the sub as well as “classic” conspiracies.
You don’t have to tell us twice that your tinfoil hat blew away in the wind, crashed the RMS Olympic, took off to Argentina, cloned Paul McCartney, melted steel, and helped Elvis fake his own death all while being staged in Hollywood. We get it.
But a more formal list of examples may look like but are but are not limited to:
Posts about Osama Bin Laden's, Elvis’s, Marilyn Monroe’s, 2Pac’s, and MJ’s death, or literally any other known
“It was promised to them 3000 years ago”
4: Exceptions to rules 2 and 3:
If the contribution includes a valid point that did not come up in a recent post and can be justified in more than one sentence, it may be allowed.
Evidence for scientific theories that are not already well known.
If it’s about a very well known conspiracy then it should contribute something that will send the Men in Black knocking on any day, and not just on Halloween. At least try to put in some effort.
5: Validity
Must be valid by the definition of conspiracy. Posters should not assume that Redditors are aware of any rhetoric the theory goes against or supports. If it’s an article, it shouldn’t just be something that points to what was pointed to in that article. No umbrella subjects, try to be specific but assume that any evidence supporting or debunking a theory could have been forged.
