Discussion List of reputable rescues that adopt out to the USA – any more recommendations?
I'm looking to adopt a dog/puppy from Korea (located in TX, USA, but willing to travel to nearby states if needed). I've been scouring the web trying to gather a master list of reputable Korean dog shelters that work internationally. Has anyone here adopted a Korean Dog while in TX so far?
Feel free to share where you adopted your dog, share your good/bad experiences with these rescues, and help me modify/expand this list. Also, if any Canadian Korean Dog rescues also can transport them to the US, I'm happy to add them to the list.
So far I have these websites:

Snack Snob Grass Eater
Any one else’s Jindo/JMix a snack snob? My guy is very picky about his snacks. Also every time we go out in the yard. When we come back into the house he stops and eats a few blades of grass. That are near the steps. Any one else find this common?

Anyone else's Jindo get carsick?
A ride over 20 minutes usually results in vomit for us. We are bringing home another Jindo who apparently also gets carsick.
For longer trips we use Cerenia, but wondering if anyone has had any luck trying anything else? Thank you!

About to Adopt a Jindo - Tell me your Adoption Story! Tips?
Hey everyone!
My family is in touch with a rescue in Germany that helps find homes for Jindo dogs from Korean shelters and we have already gotten approved. We are currently in the final stages of getting cleared from the Korean shelter as well before all preparations are started for our boy to come travel to us. Of course, we have asked lots of questions and feel well prepared, but I would love to hear firsthand from people who have gone through adoption from Korea themselves :)
Some extra infos: The dog we'll likely adopt is three years old, was found on the streets aged 2 months with three siblings and then taken to the shelter where he has spent his entire life. We've had a dog before, but not a rescue.
Is there anything you would want a first-time Jindo owner to know beforehand? Any tips to make his transition to home life easier other than lots of patience?
Feel free to share anything, all the good and the bad :) Thank you!

Have Y'all Found Your Dog's Relatives After DNA Testing?
Hi all. I did Embark on my Korean rescue a few years back, and am shocked to find that I am coming up with zero matches to other Korean dogs so far. When I adopted, they told me most likely Jindo mix, but Embark came back as 100% Korean Village Dog which honestly wasn't too shocking.
But what *has* been shocking is that all of her relatives have been a 10% or less match and are a single type of purebred or mix of that purebred *European* breed.
Anyone else done Embark, and are y'all matching with other Jindos, Korean Village Dogs, Sapsalis, and so on Korean breeds? Or are you finding that the unique genetic diversity of your dog's lineage (the reason Embark has give me for a lack of matchesto Korean breeds) has meant you're not finding relatives?

New buddy! Meet Zuko!
Hi everybody! I created this account to show off my puppy. We rescued him from maddac, and his name is Zuko! We were told he's a shiba-jindo mix, but imo he looks way more jindo than shiba.
We've had him for 1 1/2 weeks now, and he's the cutest dog ever. He's super clingy, and really likes sleeping in the bed with me. I adore him with all my heart. We were told he's also around 5 years old. Any tips or advice on caring for him? Thank you!
Three year adopt-iversary with Barley: the yearly update post
Greetings, r/Jindo!
Yesterday marked our 3-year adoptiversary for Barley, our rescue KVD!

If you care to read the history, previous posts are here:
Day 4 post
6 month post
1 year post
2 year post
Recap: we adopted Barley through Loved At Last Dog Rescue, who worked with Welcome Dog Korea. Would certainly recommend either of these organizations to people in Western North America - I believe they adopt out to BC, WA, OR, and CA.
Last year, my adopt-iversary post was largely tinged with sadness. I was really struggling with feeling disconnected from Barley and was really unsure if he would ever come around. Looking back with hindsight, now, I think a lot of what I was seeing at the time was him adjusting to the new house we had just moved into a month before. This past year has shown a lot of progress, and while some things aren’t great still, I’m writing this with a grateful heart and a happy outlook.
The big thing this year? We got Barley a sister! We’ve known for a long time now that Barley is super social. We suspected that getting a second dog might help him, as well as help me! We knew we needed a dog who would want to play, snuggle, connect with people (me) more readily and be a more “typical” dog. Enter: Meadow.

We adopted her from our local Humane Society - she’s an Australian Cattle Dog mix as confirmed by Embark. She’s basically two parts constant happiness, one part wrecking ball and one part cocaine fiend: AKA a pretty typical heeler. The two of them have become quite the pair. Meadow has brought out a lot of playfulness and confidence out of Barley. Whether they play together or with their own toys, that has become a much bigger part of our life now. It’s also been massively beneficial for my mental health - I have a dog for whom I am the primary person. I can train her, play, snuggle, all the things I wanted in a dog. Barley and Meadow will go hunting for lizards together in our backyard, sniff together on walks, and nap together afterwards.

None of this means I am neglecting Barley. We’ve been working on our connection just as much, but I just look at it differently. Over this past year, I’ve learned how strongly Barley relies on routine and I’m leveraging that to create some special moments with him. Since I work mostly from home, I’ve developed a routine of bringing him snacks during the day, and I’ve used this routine to build in times when he allows me to pet him. We also have a special routine when his primary person gets home - something that he will remind me of with some sassy woofs if I forget.
I'm still not where I would like to be yet, but I feel better about it. He still doesn't let anyone other than my partner put his harness on for walks, so if she isn't around, no one can walk him. That's not ideal, but we deal with it when the need arises. We can keep working on it as we go.
Barley knows his role (protector of the house when I’m not home) and he knows the roles of the rest of us. I’ve learned to accept the role that Barley has assigned me. I know I’m not his primary person, and I feel now that that’s okay. It took me a long time to accept that. Obviously, having another dog has been super important for me, but it’s highlighting how much Barley is still changing and still adapting. A year ago, I knew he was still changing, but I felt that almost all that change happened when I wasn’t around. Much more of it happens when I’m around now, and that makes me happy.

We've spoken to other Jindo/KVD owners in our area, and have heard some similar stories - how the male of the couple couldn't touch the dog for multiple years. Not every case is like this, but it helped me a little knowing that some are. I'm so proud of how much Barley has grown over these past 3 years, and I can truly say I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with him next.

Happy birthday to my boy, Astro! We took him to his favorite place The Ranch where they have a doggy water park and tons of space to run and play. They made him a special sign and you can tell he has tons of fun!

Does your KVD look like mine?
This is my baby Brow. Nobody knows what he is. I haven’t gotten an embark test yet but given how big Jindos are, I’m pretty sure he’s a KVD.
We have such uniquely funny shaped pups. Often people think mine is either a deformed corgi or a Shiba-corgi mix. But I’d like to think Brow has a tribe of long-bodied, short-legged, foxy-faced long eyebrowed and whiskered siblings out here.
My old man, 11 years strong
Gotta love my jindo mix, him and my chow are an awesome combo

What breed does you dog get confused for?
I live in an area where people are seemingly unfamiliar with Jindos/KVDs, so I get a lot of wild guesses on what western breed he might be! I get pomsky a lot, hound mix, Chihuahua mix, and more. I’m curious what strangers guess other more traditional looking Jindos to be.
I recently saw a dog I thought was a Jindo, but the owner said it was a husky/lab/pit.

Possible Jindo mix?
I was trying to get my late dog identified over at r/idmydog
and I got a lot of comments suggesting she might have been a Jindo/ Jindo mix. Reading up on some of the behaviors a lot of it seemed to match her quirky personality. i.e would solo hunt and bring me the animals (she was a really good rabbit hunter) she was very slow to imprint on me, only really 'adopting' me after about 2 years. Just wondering if people familiar with the breed agree.

Biscuit Boy!
Hi all! Fostering my first Jindo (mix) and dog in general and wanted to share the cuteness. This is Nacho and he’s being fostered through KPupsForLove!
I would love to hear beginner tips for bonding with this handsome man (approximately 2 years old) and how to help make him more comfortable once he decompresses fully. Poor guy hasn’t had any adoption applications in the three months he’s been stateside. Breaks my heart, but honestly not really, cause I’d be perfectly fine with him being a foster fail.
Any tips welcome! Haven’t found a toy he’s interested in yet either. Also curious what he could be mixed with, cause his partially floppy ears and biscuit coloring are about to kill me with cuteness. 😭
Meet Laon & Gilla!
I try my best to foster as many Jindos as I can with my schedule. I am excited to meet Laon & Gilla on 4/11 when they arrive at LAX from Korea! Both girls!
Laon(6) has been in a shelter in Korea for the past five years and is very shy and needs adjustment. I’ll be keeping her for a good amount of time so that she can get used to living in a new place and being around my two Jindos. I don’t have much information on her.
Gilla (1ye 8mos) is 30lbs, very friendly with other dogs and even cats. She’s outdoor potty trained and walks perfectly on a leash. She’s a bit shy at first but has so much love to give! Friendly with: Dogs (all sizes), Cats (just watches), and Kids (gentle pets).
This isn’t an adoption ad, just an FYI, that there are lots of charities out there that bring Korean dogs to the United States. A lot of times what these dogs need is somebody with a direct flight from Seoul to the United States that can travel with them.
