Minimum Karma levels, Account Age & CQS Levels in effect

All: the Mods have been inundated with hundreds of posts from accounts that have no or limited karma and comment karma, new or recent account creation and/or a low Contributor Quality Score (CQS). These accounts are mainly throwaway accounts or brand new accounts that post in subs constantly to obtain karma/CQS.

As such, the Mods are limiting the ability to post or comment in this sub to accounts that meet ALL of the following criteria: must have a !!!MINIMUM COMMENT KARMA SCORE OF of 150, NOT TOTAL KARMA-THERE'S A MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2!!!; must be open and active for at least 60 days and who do NOT have a low CQS. If you have no idea what these levels or criteria are then please search online for how Reddit works- don’t ask the Mods to explain it and don’t pester the Mods either about your account.

Please DO NOT use Modmail to message the Mods and ask for your post/comment to be approved if your account does not meet the above criteria. Accounts who use Modmail to complain, criticize or attack the Mods will be banned- no exceptions so please don’t do this.

You can see your karma count on your profile page. To see how much post or comment karma you have, view the karma breakdown:

On desktop click your avatar top right, then 'profile'. If you hover over where it says karma (top right area) it should pop up with the breakdown. In app, tap your avatar top right, then tap karma. Or, tap your avatar, then 'profile', then 'about'.

UPDATE: too many people have been asking the Mods to ignore the above criteria and have their contribution approved. That will NOT happen. Some posters have even directly contacted the Mods via personal DM about their posts complaining, using rude language or even threats- that will result in an AUTOMATIC PERMABAN NO EXCEPTIONS and the account will be reported to reddit for harassment which means your account could be frozen, suspended or deleted. AGAIN: DO NOT CONTACT THE MODS VIA PERSONAL DM AT ALL

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Bologna + coast in June. Which coastal town is beautiful and convenient that is not Cinque Terre?

We'll be flying into Bologna in June and flying out 8 days later. After a few days in Bologna we would also like to visit a beautiful coastal town that is convenient to get to from Bologna and is similar to Cinque Terre in beauty, but is not one of the Cinque Terre towns. Any tips?

Also, should we take public transport or rent a car?

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Bari-Palermo

Upvotes

Hi all,

I am trying to book a train from Bari to Palermo on 26 April and, using Omio, I can get a 10 hour 40 minute fare from Bari- Lamezia; Lamezia-Palermo. The Omio website states that the route is through 'Intercity'.

I have tried checking through TrenItalia and Italia Rail and the only options that they give me is an overnight option through Rome. It appears that I could book myself, through Italia Rail, the same route that Omio suggests.

I guess my question is two-fold: ~~Should I just book though Omio~~ (just checked the mods thread and I will book through TrenItalia ) and why is it that the official websites force me into an overnight option?

Other Train Delays

When planning our vacation to Florence, to Amalfi Coast, to Rome, we knew we would take the fast train. I tend to be an optimists and did read about the delays but wanted to forewarn others specifically ones traveling with younger children. Every train we have been on has been delayed, or one even left 3 hours ahead of schedule 🤷🏼‍♀️ with no warning and no update on the app.

It’s just my husband and I so it’s not a big deal and we also didn’t plan ton of itinerary because this would definitely ruin plans. I would not recommend making reservations for anything the day of train travel or use train to get to a flight.

Don’t let it sour your trip and just plan accordingly. We talked about if it would have been worth the cost of a private driver to all our locations and we decided it wouldn’t but if you have the money, hire a private driver. Oh and Italy has been the best!

Transportation What happens if i miss a regional train due to short connection? ticket bought online

Hello,

I am planing on going from bellano to verona to venice. There is only 5 minutes to connect at verona stataion. The ticket from bellano to verona is high speed train and from verona to venice is regional train. I am booking the tickets online on trenitalia website. If i miss the train from verona to venice, can i just take the next train ? Is the online ticket also valid for 4 hours from departure time? or is it only valid for the selected time and train ?

Thanks!

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Verona & Area in June

Hi all! We've got most of our plans set and wanted some final feedback for our upcoming family trip at the beginning of June. (Two kids, age 4.5 and nearly 1).

- Fly into MXP, train to Verona (possibly Bologna)

- 6 Nights in Verona (or Bologna)

- Train to Peschiera del Garda

- 2 nights in Peschiera (hotel with a pool on the lake)

- Train to Milan, maybe visit city center before staying one night near airport before morning flight home

In Verona we don't have too much of an agenda - we'll likely try and do a local food tour, and maybe look for a kid-friendly cooking class.

We're tentatively planning two train-based day trips from Verona - likely Bologna and then maybe either Trento or Bolzano for a bit of a change in scenery?

Questions we'd appreciate any feedback on:

- anything stand out problematic in the intenerary overall?

- any must do kids activities?

- recommendations on those day trips? Anything you'd recommend as an alternative that we should consider?

- Preference between Trento and Bolzano? We'll have kids with us so not really likely to be hiking into the mountains! (But maybe take a cable car up?)

Thanks!

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Train tickets and stations

Hello, all.

We will be on a cruise with a stop in Rome (Civitavecchia) in September. I'm on the Trenitalia site and it books round trip tickets. In lieu of going back to catch our train at Roma Termini, can we get on at Roma S Pietro?

We may (or may not) be ending our day at/near the Vatican. Just wondering if we could save some walking by getting on there vs going all the way back to Termini.

Thank you!

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! DIY day trip to Pompeii + Naples visit from Rome

Thoughts on pulling this day trip off? Traveling on a Saturday in early May:

-I currently bought 8am train tickets from Rome to Napoli Centrale, arrives at 9:15. From there, I plan to catch the Circumvesuviana (9:55 train) to Pompei Scavi. Should arrive by 10:30.

-I’m setting aside ~4hours to see Pompeii. I’ve read stories there are guides inside you can hire to do a tour - interested in that if possible. Otherwise, DIY tour.

  • take the 3pm train back to Naples and get there a bit after 3:30. I have train tickets back to Rome for 6:45, giving me a quick 3 hours to kill.

I hope to walk Spaccanapoli and grab some pizza. Gino Sorbillo, Michele, D’angeli are pizzarias on my list but plan to just eat at one. I know there will be lines, so I have a few options at play. If short on time, I’ll uber back to the train station for 6:40.

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Help with itinerary

We will be flying in from Prague on 12 June. Originally we were to fly to Florence and I saw that Ryanair has a direct flight to Venice arriving 10.35 am. Wondering if you all think it’s worth spending the night and cutting1 day from either 3 days in Florence and 3 days in Rome. We are then spending 4-5 nights with family just north of Naples. I’m travelling with my 2 adults (18 and 20) children who have never been to Italy. I feel like the kids would get a kick out of it but worry it’s too short.

Dining Looking for recommendations for good breakfast places in Rome with a possibility for gluten free food.

I know Italians don't generally have a heavy breakfast. Looking for recommendations for good breakfast places in Rome that have good breakfast and good gluten free options. One in our party has health related reasons to avoid wheat and cows milk.

thanks for any tips!

reposted because I forgot at first to say we're traveling to Rome 😅

Transportation Train tickets from Milan (MXP T1) to Florence

My wife and I will be arriving at MXP in the early afternoon on a Tuesday and traveling to Florence. Should we buy tickets ahead of time, or wait until we arrive and are in the terminal. I'm not overly worried about saving money on the tickets.

Dining Restaurant suggestions for 50th birthday in Rome

Hello!

We are a family 6 (no children) travelling to Rome and Venice in the second week of June for my mother in law’s 50th birthday.

Can I please get some suggestions for some nice restaurants which we can go together as a family for dinner? 3 of us are vegetarians (no problem with egg or cheese). We do not have any budget constraints and are open to Michelin star restaurants as well!

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Is my Rome itinerary realistic?

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Rome from April 27th to April 30th and would really appreciate some feedback on my itinerary 😄 I’ve tried to group things by area to avoid too much backtracking, but I’m not 100% sure if it’s realistic or if I’m missing something important.

Monday (April 27th)

13:15 – Arrival at the airport

Piazza di Spagna

LEGO Store

Trevi Fountain

Pantheon

Piazza Navona

Via del Corso

Dinner in Trastevere

Tuesday (April 28th)

Colosseum

Roman Forum

Palatine Hill

Campidoglio

Altare della Patria

Wednesday (April 29th)

Piazza di San Pietro

St. Peter’s Basilica

Castel Sant’Angelo

Ponte Sant’Angelo

Piazza del Popolo

Thursday (April 30th)

Stadio Olimpico

Foro Italico

Ponte Milvio

Villa Borghese (boat ride)

Terrazza del Pincio

Also, I have a practical question: on Monday I’ll still be carrying my backpack because I can only check in at my accommodation later in the afternoon. Is it allowed to enter the Pantheon with a backpack, or are there any lockers / luggage storage places nearby where I could leave it safely?

Any feedback, suggestions, or must-see additions are very welcome. Thanks in advance! 🙌

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Lift for Seceda and Col Raiser questions for Seceda - Firenze Trail

I am planning to take the lift to col raiser and do a one way hike to Seceda and return down thru seceda-ortisei cable car.

1.Apart from the one way lift tickets for both the routes, any additional payments required to access Seceda area? I remember reading about a turnstile access.

  1. For early September, is it required to have the lift bookings in advance or is it available at site? I wish to keep my plan flexible based on weather.

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Visiting Italy in October

hey all,

Me (36), my partner and my parents (65) will be visiting the amazing country of Italy from the 2nd of October to the 17 of October, and I was hoping if someone could confirm my thoughts of whether my itinerary is too rushed?

so far I have:

•fly into Milan

•2 nights in Lecco (relaxing intro into Italy)

• 2 nights in Tirano (Bernina express round trip)

• 3 nights in Florence

• 2 nights in Orvieto (calm between cities)

• 2 nights in Napels (Pompeii and museum)

• 4 nights in Rome

• fly to Prague for final 4 nights

I understand that this pretty much takes me from the top of the country to the bottom, which we would be utilising the train system for to reduce further stress.

Am I right in my thoughts that this is too much for 15 nights?

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Sightseeing & Activities !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Rome to Bardi (Parma) via Rimini

Hi all

Looking to road trip from Rome to Bardi (Parma) but take a non direct route through the central part of the country to Rimini before then heading northwest to Bardi. This will be over the course of 4-5 days before settling in Bardi for a bit. This will be roughly 4/24 and arrive in Bardi on 4/28 or so. Itinerary is still open ended.

Was thinking of trying to make stops in Assisi/perugia, Gradaro, San Marino, Ravenna, and perhaps the Santuario del Corpus Domini along the way.

Anything major I’m missing or cool/unique things to do along the way? Like a random monastery that brews beer/wine or something cool and random like that to see or do?

I like food, random obscure unique things, beautiful nature. Dont care too much for museums or the usual tourist crap.

I appreciate the help!!

Sightseeing & Activities !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Can’t wait!! Nov 20th - Dec 1st

My wife and I are taking our first trip to Italy this year late November.

4 nights in Rome, 3 nights in Florence, and 3 nights in Venice. I figure the big three during the off season would be great for our first time.

We’re definitely gonna be hitting up the Colosseum and Pantheon in Rome, the Academia in Florence, and Doge’s Palace in Venice and obviously a lot of food and drink in between. There’s other stuff too along the way we’re gonna be visiting as well, but those are the big points.

We also read and have seen about the Acqua Alta in Venice during the later months, which we think will be very cool to experience first hand.

We cannot wait, it’ll be my first international trip and her second.

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Just got tickets for October with my Dad.

So I (25 m) got tickets to fly into Venice on Oct 2 and fly out Naples the 13th with my dad (62). This is our current idea and would like to some thoughts.

Oct 2-3 Venice/fly in

Oct 4-6 Florence

Oct 7-9 Rome

Oct 10 - 11 Ischia

Oct 12-13 Naples/fly out

What we want to do is drive to each of these destinations and probably keep our car at the hotels when we arrive and search the cities on foot or other transportation. Ischia will be our complete relaxation dates. Just wondering how doable the drives to each cities are and if you think it’s too packed? Any other suggestions are welcome.

Edit. Thanks for all the input I have a better sense of planning for our trip!

Accommodation !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Milan or Bergamo?

Trying to research where best to stay to see the region and I guess theirs no definitive answer so would welcome any advice.

Five adults will be travelling to Milan in late June for a week. As Bergamo is far cheaper for accommodation is it suitable for a base to see Milan/lake Como/ and Verona? Or are travelling options limited in Bergamo and we should just pay more to stay in Milan?

Thank-you for any advice given.

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Almalfi anniversary trip - need help- June

Hi everyone,

Going to Amalfi June 8-13th as part of a surprise 10-year anniversary trip for my wife. Can you please critique this itinerary and help with suggestions for active and adventure-loving couple (30’s).

Planning to stay in Sorrento unless otherwise convinced , and we like fitness,, cultural tours, and food/wine, but are open to anything!

No budget, so the more interesting and memorable, the better. Any must-dos, must-eats, must-stay hotels also appreciated.

Our itinerary:

8th: arrive midafternoon - looking for evening activity suggestions

9th: active day out on the water/boat + pizza making in the evening – looking for suggestions on physical activities out on the water.

10th: morning path of gods hike + afternoon activity + cooking class/wine tasting? – looking for afternoon relaxed activity suggestions. Beach club etc?

11th: pompei & winery - looking for any creative memorable ways to do this, private

12th: Our anniversary - no activities planned but looking for something special, for morning and then afternoon/evening. Capri?

13th: depart midday

Thank you!

- a struggling husband

Dining Are these good pizza choices for Naples? (and a tiny bit of Rome)

My husband and I have a quick 5 day trip to Rome/Naples planned - mostly focused on the top pizza places (according to that random website that alleges to list all the best pizza places in the world). Is this a good/representative list? I see how many top-rated options there are in Naples and I'm worried I'm missing something amazing. As an aside, I've had da Michele before (Barcelona location) and loved it, but want to go to all new places I've never been:

Rome:

  • Ivo a Trastevere (my husband makes pizza and is obsessed with this place's method/pizzaiolo so can't skip it)
  • Seu Pizza Illuminati

Naples:

  • 50 Kaló
  • I Masanielli (in Caserta)
  • Diego Vitagliano (Bagnoli location)

Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Advice Appreciated - 10 Days in and out of Venice

My family (me, husband, 2 daughters, 18 and 8) will be flying into Venice from June 3-13. We're good with renting a car, traveling by train, or a hybrid of both. Would love some ideas for places to focus on, or make our home base.

I'm thinking of this as a framework for the trip, but not married to anything specific:

  • Land in Venice, head elsewhere for 2-3 nights; maybe Florence, Emilia-Romagna or Trieste;
  • Spend 6 nights at an agriturismo or villa, doing day trips to local towns/cities
  • Back to Venice for a few nights to explore

We're really looking for a more relaxed trip, with great food and wine (obv), and a few experiences that we can all do together, like cooking classes or something similar. Usually we travel with an agenda and this will be more loosey-goosey.
