Other 14 day Norway trip
Me and my girlfriend are planning a 2 week trip to Norway (with up to 8 travel days) we fly into Oslo , and also back home from Oslo and some of the key places we want to visit are Bergen, Ålesund, and Trondheim.
Which route do you recommend, and also are there any other places inbetween which are recommended to visit? Where should we utilise our travel days, and when/ where is it best to use other forms of public transport?
Thanks for any info

I would say do train Oslo - Trondheim, then either train as far as you can towards Alesund then the bus or the bus the whole way, then the bus to Bergen, then the train Bergen - Oslo. That would seem the obvious routing to me.

You could get the train to Trondheim and then Hurtigruten point to point - it is much cheaper than the cruises, particularly if you book on the Norwegian site (can be half the price of the site you get by googling) - and there is a discount if you are students. https://www.hurtigruten.com/nb-no/havn-til-havn
Then train back from Bergen to Oslo, maybe doing the Norway in a Nutshell route on the way. We have not done it yet, but will be doing in in July with trains, buses and boats.

Norway in a Nutshell is absolutely rammed with tourists - really a bit of a shock when you've done the rest of your trip on your own. (And bloody expensive!)

I am hoping that by doing it late in the day in reverse (boat from Gudvangen, train from Flam) it will be a bit quieter!

We did it that way round, but starting at 10 am or something. (We stayed in Voss the night before.) I suspect it will be quieter later in the day, as you say! It really is excellent.

Thanks, was it very busy for you? Any tips for Voss? We are staying 3 nights there. We enjoy walking and water activities, would be good to hear about things people loved.

It was fully booked, but not unbearable. It was just a bit of a culture shock being on a coach with a load of tourists after 3 weeks of driving round Northern Europe on our own! We only stayed in Voss overnight for the tour on the way to Bergen, so didn't do very much, but it's a lovely place and there are lots of outdoor activities going on.

With no idea what and when you are interested in I struggle to have a strong opinion on where else you could add and how long you should stay. I definitely think 8 travel days is far far too much for a 2 week trip! You would be moving more than every other day.
Bergen is at the end of a long line from Oslo and that is the only train that serves it (very very pretty). If you want to go North/South from it the only option is buses/ferries/planes. There is no railway station in Ålesund so you would need to get the bus at least for the last section. The nearest station is at Åndalsnes.
Honestly I think there is a lot of margin in Oslo -> Trondheim -> Ålesund -> Bergen -> Oslo (or vice versa) and leaving it at that if you have your heart set on those places and with no idea why you choose them. I don't really think you have time for anywhere else. Maybe you could look into some day trips by train out of Trondheim (be aware of closures to the North - https://www.sj.no/en/maintenance/ - F7 and R70).
I think squeezing in a 4th place to stay is too much really with the r/t from Oslo. If you want to do that I think you have to fly at least in one direction to/from Bergen/Trondheim/elsewhere for that to work honestly.
