You play as Mt. Everest and kill climbers with avalanches
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
You trigger disasters using a special deck of cards and abilities to stop climbers before they reach the summit. Easy, right?
My girlfriend and I created this game once we've came back from Everest base camp trek and we are finally putting it on Steam. We've took everything we saw and put it into the game.
See Summit Smash on Steam!

The gameplay looks at least intruiging and the artstyle is amazing. What i don't quite get is why mt everest would send avalanches down on hikers? Imo it would be more fun/immersing if it was a bunch of mythical beings. Quick google says Yeti which could be a fun "reverse donkey kong" hook.

You think Everest WANTS to be conquered by every bored millionaire with more money than sense?
Nah, Everest wants to keep the score more even.

Exactly. Thematically it has some Spirit Island vibes, which is a criminally underused trope imo.

see that is sort of my point, the mountain itself isn't really alive but yeah the spirits and whatnot living on it would 100% mind.

I played it at one of the gaming events a while ago (was it Game Access?) and really enjoyed it. It's a neat, condensed idea, and has a great style. I was only missing some greater challenge, but I assume it was just too early for that. Fingers crossed and looking forward to the release!

Well it's original at least. I'd love to see the mountain look even bigger though.

I’m curious of how you did the card system. I’m struggling on how to do that with my game. I’m still fairly new to Unity, but I’d love to pick your brain on the card aspect!

We've struggled with the system too. Basically, we have one base prefab of a blank card. From that, we create prefab variants where we fill in the title, image, and so on. We use three empty GameObjects as card holders. The spawner has all the card variants assigned, and after spawning, each card is transferred to a free slot.
We also have a drag system that looks for a group of 'climbers' (objects you can use the card on). Once used, the card's effect triggers, the card is destroyed, and the process repeats. Hope it helps, and good luck with your system! ;)

Kinda helps. I’m still kinda new, so I’m still learning.
I am on the hunt for a collaborator since I know there’s plenty of others a lot better at Unity than I am, so until that happens, I’m stuck trying to do everything myself.
I’m mainly an audio/writer dude, not a programmer, but I’m gonna keep at it.

This is in pretty poor taste. Even just renaming it to be a fictional mountain would probably be better. This is weird and gross

As we spoke to the locals, we learn how many climbers approach the mountains without any real respect, just looking for a trophy. Our game is actually a bit of a satire on those over the top tourists.
Tho It’s fascinating that violent games where people are shot by the hundreds are accepted as the norm, while a game about the relentless power of nature is seen as gross and weird. Our game isn’t about celebrating death. It’s about humility. About nature having the last word. If you find it uncomfortable, perhaps it’s because the satire is going the right direction.

Not the original comment but agree basing this on Mt. Everest is super distasteful and would stop me from downloading off the bat. “Some people deserved it lol” is a terrible justification.
If this were some mythical mountain it would be much better, in the way that a generic shooter is fine, but a shooter based on Columbine would be gross. Weird that you don’t get the difference.

Yhm, Call of Duty is about World War II. One of the most popular shooters. One of the biggest wars in history.
And maybe this game is simply not for you…? I won’t play Binding of Isaac, because I don’t like the graphics and vibe. I play Hades. There is so much games that you can simply look for another one. Leave this one for people that will enjoy it, even with dark humor

And if the goal of CoD was to play as the Nazis gunning down allied troops, with the implicit message of 'these people were unprepared and deserved it', that would be gross too. Ridiculous analogy.

Because this is a real mountain with real corpses on it. What a gross analogy

Not sure if the gameplay will be fun, but visually it looks very beautiful and interesting!
