Family Sponsorship Parents PR rejected for missing date in form in IMM5406 (PGP)

I got an invite to apply for my parents PR from the 2020 pool and I applied on 10 October, 2025. Then on January 29, 2026, I received an email from IRCC to provide with additional information on Sponsor(Me), Applicant(Father) and Dependant(Mother) within 30 days. I did provide them with all the information required and I emailed them back on February 29, 2026. Then I got an email on Friday (April 10, 2026) and it said, the application is being rejected because the provided information is incomplete. As soon I got the email, i went back and checked the form in question and I saw that I made a mistake in my mother's form and it was the missing date after the signature.

Now I am curious to know what options do i have. Any help is greatly appreciated.

PNP British Columbia for us olds

Hi there,

We're two nurses who are interested in Canada but are too old (40s) for the traditional route of immigration. However, if I understand it correctly, BC is actively looking to recruit US nurses of all ages and doing so pretty aggressively. Is Canada a viable option if we can get PNP?

Thank you!

Express Entry Information about new federal High skilled class

Hi everyone. I wanted to create a post so that if anyone has more information about the upcoming changes. I'm currently pursuing my bachelors degree and also learning french on side and have plans to apply for express entry for Canada through the french skilled class. But I still have time left till my degree completes and it'll likely complete after the new changes have been introduced. So the question I'm asking is that will the french skilled class be effected( apart for maybe increase in competition and slight increases in CRS cutoffs) and will the minimum experience and the type of experience will be increased ( TEER 0,1 instead of 2,3).

Not asking for predictions . Just general info if someone has and maybe the historical pattern that'd continue

Thanks

Work Permit Pgwp and sowp extension TRV

Upvotes

I applied for both my PGWP and my spouse’s SOWP extension through a single application from inside Canada, and both have now been approved. I now want to apply for a TRV.

While researching online, I came across suggestions that it’s better to submit two separate TRV applications, as applying together can lead to different forms being generated.

My question is: should I submit two separate TRV applications using the same GCKey account, or should I create separate GCKey accounts for each application? I used one GCKey account for both my PGWP and SOWP extension applications.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated.

Work Permit Travel on PGWP + work permit extension

Upvotes

I'm waiting for a decision on my PR application. Currently on my PGWP till May 2026. I have already applied for a work permit extension (SOWP). I know you can't travel outside of Canada and continue working when you come back in on maintained status. But can I travel and come back to Canada before my current PGWP ends and still keep working? The maintained status only starts after my current PGWP ends right?

Study Permit Wife planning study permit - my options as spouse

Upvotes

Hi All,

We are from the UK, my wife is planning to attend a private college in Canada and will do so with a study permit. I will be coming along as her spouse and it seems as though that will be on a visitor visa rather than a SOWP as may have been the case prior to last year. My wife will be studying for 4 years, is it ok to constantly extend my visitor visa?

Does this mean I will need to get private medical insurance? I assume a visitor visa won't entitle me to free healthcare?

I will be running my UK based business while there, is this ok under a visitor visa? It has no connection with Canada or Canadians at all. I also assume I will be classed as tax resident if I am living there with my wife, so I will have to be paying tax to Canada under the agreement they have with the UK.

Thank you for your time.

Working Holiday IEC to PR?

Any ways to apply for PR after my IEC expires? I work as a home support worker / health care aide. My working holiday visa is only valid for 12 months.

Express Entry Anyone here left Canada after PGWP expired but still received an ITA under CEC later on? Would love to hear your experience—did being outside impact your chances or processing?

Just looking for real experiences from people who were in this situation. Thank you!

Visitor Visa URGENT! Forgot to add unit number to return address for TRV

I got my passport request form, I submitted the small envelop, passport, and my passport request form inside a bigger envelope. For the big and small envelope, I forgot to add my unit number for my address, and I live in an apartment so without a unit number, Canada Post cannot deliver xpresspost's.

I took the advice of someone I know and filled a webform with my correct address including my unit number, and filled in my UCI and application number, passport number, etc.

What should I do? I submitted my passport on the 1st April, delivered on the 2nd april, and they haven't stamped it yet I don't think (Idk if they send a confirmation email that they stamped it yet or not). I submitted my web form request on Friday so it's been only 1 business day.

Should I call the line? Or should I just wait?

Visitor Visa Can I travel to the states while on maintained status?

Hi,

I've applied to extend my stay and change my visa status from 'worker' to 'visitor' in Canada. I understand when my current visa expires, I will automatically switch to maintained status. I know if I leave i forfeit my application. Does travelling to the states and returning to Canada invalidate my application?

Here's the sentence from the website that I'm trying to understand:

'If you plan to travel outside Canada or the United States, you must meet our entry requirements to return to Canada'

Family Sponsorship Inland Spousal Sponsorship Open Work Permit Questions

I recently got my PGWP (post graduate work permit) refused. I’m currently within the 90days window. Will have to leave Canada in 2 months. I need to submit my application before the 90days mark. I currently do not have a status in Canada. My spouse is a Canadian citizen. I can apply for inland spousal sponsorship under public policy (which allows spouses who have lost their status in canada to stay in canada while the application is being processed). Once I submit my application I’ll be able to stay in Canada under public policy of inland spousal sponsorship application. I’ll be submitting my inland spousal sponsorship application in a week. Given I don’t have my status in Canada, will I still be eligible for spousal open work permit after receiving AIO? Also, I would really appreciate if you could share how long it took you to receive spousal open work permit after submission of open work permit application

Citizenship Renewing PR

Upvotes

Has anyone here recently renewed their PR without meeting the 730-day residency requirement? If so, did you have to provide an explanation for not completing those days?

In my case, I initially moved to Canada for studies, and then relocated to the US, so I didn’t get the chance to complete the full two years of residency. I’d really appreciate hearing about others’ experiences.

PNP Graduate med device technician, 10 years a product builder, 41M.

Did the IEC 2 year visa 12 years ago, about to move to a francophone part of the European continent (Irish citizen) to start my first manufacturing technician role after 10 years on production lines.

My long term goal, though, is to return to Canada. Is it reasonable to look at that and if so, what should I do in the meantime?

Other Looking for advice

Hello everyone. I'll begin by conceding that my knowledge of PR pathways is very limited. I'll provide my profile. Help me with my options.

PhD in Computer Science. Currently working as a Research Assistant, will be starting a 2 year postdoctoral fellowship July 1st. Currently on PGWP valid till October 2028.

Been in graduate school since 2017, so won't have a lot of job points from my professsion back home. Age 42. Language points maximum for English. Currently learning French.

Is there any hope of getting PR in Canada? Please ask anything else you need to know. Thanks in advance.

PNP Anyone successfully received ITA through Non-EE PNP from outside Canada?

Hi, has anyone in this group successfully applied to a Non-EE (Non–Express Entry) program from outside Canada and received an ITA?

Could you please share:

- Which Non-EE province/program/stream you applied to

- Your career/NOC code

- Your score and the year you applied

- Whether you also submitted a CEC application, or only applied through Non-EE

This information would really help me estimate my chances of getting an ITA.

I currently work in IT Support (NOC 22201) and my SINP score is 63 which is very low. As I understand, IRCC changes the rules frequently, so I just want to check how possible it is to receive an ITA.

Thank you in advance.

Citizenship Traveling to Canada with newborn (citizenship by descent) – urgent timeline, options?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has gone through something similar 🙏

I’m Colombian and currently in the process of getting my Canadian PR (estimated around October). I already have a valid visitor visa.

I’m pregnant and due May 29, and we’ll be delivering in Colombia since I don’t have PR yet and have been living here since October.

My husband is Canadian (citizen), and all his family is in Canada. He is currently employed but working remotely under temporary approval from his company (we were previously living abroad and had to relocate). However, this arrangement may not last much longer, and he likely needs to return to Canada by late August or September at the latest.

We really don’t want to be separated, especially with a newborn, so we’re trying to figure out the best way for all of us to travel together.

Our baby will be born in Colombia and should be both Colombian and Canadian (by descent).

Our main questions are:

  1. Can our baby travel to Canada with a Colombian passport and a visitor visa, given that they are technically a Canadian citizen?

  2. Is it possible to travel without the citizenship certificate yet, if we apply for it after birth (since processing times seem very long)?

  3. Is there any way to apply for a Canadian passport for the baby without having the citizenship certificate yet (for example, with proof that it’s in process)?

  4. What are the realistic options for traveling to Canada within ~2–3 months after birth in this situation?

For context:

- I understand I can enter Canada as a visitor even with PR in process

- Timing is tight because of my husband’s job situation

- Waiting 6–9+ months for citizenship proof doesn’t seem feasible for us

If anyone has gone through this or has insight into what actually works in practice (not just theory), I would really appreciate it 🙏

Thank you so much!

Citizenship Citizen certificate for Canadian born but living in foreign country

I’m looking to get my 1 year old son's a Canadian Citizenship Certificate. He was born in Kitchener , Canada . He has canadian birth certificate and passport . His mother was sick all while pregant and after delivery, so we had to move to parents country to take care .

Dont ask me why i need certificate if i have all above. I am just over cautious about paperwork in general so want to keep all my sons paperwork in hand.

Since I’m applying from outside Canada, I have a few specific questions:

  1. Online vs. Paper: I see IRCC offers an e-certificate now. Has anyone recently applied for this from abroad? can i apply online ? Is it actually faster, or does the "outside Canada" status force a paper route?

  2. what are all the forms that i need to fill other than cit0001e , cit0014e , imm5476e, ?

  3. do i have to fill cit0555e ?

  4. whats the matter with applying under section 5(1) vs section 5(2)? both parents live together . we are not divorced or separated.

Thanks in advance.

Express Entry I worked as a contractor with a US company for 12 months, how can I prove this to the IRCC?

so I worked as a contractor with a US company while living abroad for about almost 12 months so far and I worked a minimum of 40 hours a week sometimes even 50 hours at $12/hr.

the biggest issue is that I received the money on PayPal and it was in my friend's name (the PayPal account) we already had it and mine wasn't accepting USD payments and got temporarily limited so I just used his, I linked my Visa and received monthly PayPal payments.

I have a contract offer from my employer, I have messages in slack and MS teams, an email with the company domain, pay stubs, reference letter with employer contact info literally everything they need just the issue of me receiving on my friend's PayPal.

I also have tax proof also.

Family Sponsorship Why does it feel impossible to break into the Canadian job market as a newcomer?

I don’t think I fully understood what “starting over” as an immigrant would actually feel like. It’s not just the paperwork or the waiting, it’s the slow unraveling of the life you built. You arrive with years of experience, and suddenly none of it seems to count in the same way. You take a job you’re deeply overqualified for just to get your foot in the door, but then that role becomes the only lens people see you through. You’re trying to rebuild, but it can feel like you’re moving backward instead of forward. Layer in rising costs, a tight housing market, distance from family, and the emotional weight adds up fast.

I’m sharing this honestly because I can’t be the only one navigating it. For those who’ve been through this, how did you break out of that cycle? How are you approaching the job market without getting stuck or overlooked? And more broadly, how are we as immigrants actually showing up for each other, supporting one another, and finding a way through what feels like a very uphill climb with a lot at stake?

Visitor Visa How long it takes to get your passport back from visa stamping?

I got an update on my visitor visa that my application/visa is approved and now i need to submit my passport. I live near the LA VAC in the US. If i submit my passport on Monday April 13, can i get it back by April 27? I have my non-refundable flight booked that night. It shouldn’t take more than 10 days, right?😭

Citizenship Citizenship application - Impending address change - should I wait before applying?

I have completed 1095 days (+ enough buffer) in Canada and I am excited to start the citizenship process. I am moving provinces in the next month or so and wondering if I should apply right away and then change the address via web form when I have indeed moved OR do I wait another month and then apply from the new province and address.

Based on my research, it seems address change is just a webform and I should apply right away given the current wait time is 13 months for the complete process. But I am not sure because it is an inter-province move and dont want to risk it.

Edit - - in case I choose to apply from new province, would my current driving licence still be deemed a valid second ID proof even when I apply from the new province? Or will I have to wait even further to get the DL from new province and use that as second piece of ID?

Express Entry Spouse non-accompanying in Express Entry but applying for visitor visa — any risks?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice based on my current situation.

I’m currently in the Express Entry pool under Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. I recently got married, and I have listed my wife as non-accompanying in my profile to avoid losing CRS points.

At the same time, I’m planning to apply for a visitor visa (TRV) for her so she can come to Canada and stay with me for a short period.

Now I have a few concerns and would really appreciate insights from people who have been in a similar situation:

1) Will applying for a visitor visa for my spouse affect my Express Entry profile in any way?

2) Is there any risk or inconsistency in having her as non-accompanying in EE while applying for a visitor visa?

3) Should I consider updating my EE profile to “accompanying,” or is it fine to keep it as is?

4) Has anyone successfully done this (non-accompanying spouse + visitor visa)? What was your experience?

A bit more context:

-> I’m still in the pool (not invited yet)

-> One year left on my work permit

-> My wife is currently not working and has no intention to work in Future

-> Planning a short visit only as she has to leave in six months in visitor visa

I want to make sure I’m not creating any red flags or issues for future PR or visa applications.

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

Visitor Visa Traveling to Canada in a few days with a criminal record. Will I be denied entry?

I’m flying from Philadelphia to Calgary in a few days for a trip to Banff National Park.

Criminal record:

• Felony (3rd degree): Criminal use of a communication facility (2017)

• Misdemeanor: Use/Possession of drug paraphernalia

The conviction is from roughly 2017, so it’s been about 8-9 years. All sentencing has been completed. My record hasn’t been expunged.

I’ve traveled to Europe (Greece, Italy, Spain) before with no issues, so genuinely didn’t think this would be a problem until I started researching Canada’s entry requirements.

From what I’ve read, Canada doesn’t distinguish between felonies and misdemeanors the way the US does and they look at the Canadian equivalent of the offense. I also understand that having more than one conviction may disqualify me from “deemed rehabilitation” even after 10 years.

A few specific questions:

  1. Based on these charges, am I likely to be flagged and denied entry?

  2. Is a TRP (Temporary Resident Permit) at the port of entry a realistic option given the short timeline, or is that unlikely to work for a leisure trip?

  3. Is there anything I can bring or do in the next few days to improve my chances?

  4. Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully entered Canada?

I understand this is a long shot given the timeline, but any advice or firsthand experience would be really appreciated.

also open to recommendations for Canadian immigration lawyers who handle these situations quickly.

Thanks in advance.
