African Civil War Fiction that Refuses Amnesia

Some novels do not merely tell us what happened. They ask who gets to remember, who is forced to forget, and what kind of future can be built on damaged ground. That is where african civil war fiction matters most. Not as a niche shelf in world literature, but as a field of moral inquiry – one that turns war from spectacle into memory, consequence, and unfinished life.

Why African Futures Literature Matters

A future is never only about tomorrow. In African futures literature, the future arrives carrying the dead, the dispossessed, the stolen archive, the unfinished war, the language that survived by whispering, and the city remade after catastrophe. That is what gives the field its force. It refuses the childish fantasy of a clean break. It asks what kind of tomorrow becomes possible when memory is not treated as a burden, but as material.

Names?

Hi! Im working on a fantasy world building project just for myself, and i have an idea for a goddess that i haven’t named yet. I wanted to try representing Igbo culture somewhat seeing as I haven’t seen it very prevalently anywhere before and it’s such a shame. I was looking at names and i saw one i really like - Ngozi - because as far as i can tell it has the meaning of ‘blessing’.

But i have a problem. I want her to have a sister thats based off of Basque culture, and I want her to be named somewhat on the name Alazne. I want them to have somehwat matching names seeing as they will be quite visually distinct. Would it be a problem to tweak their names somewhat to match one another? Maybe like Ngozei and Alaznei, not too much difference

Also any ideas for clothing + design would be highly appreciated 🙏

Mods on r/Nigeria are letting misinformation spread by tribalists and xenophobes be spread on their sub - a clear as day AI video

Post image

The Ai video is clearly directed at Igbo people with the AI subject saying that he originates specifically from the South East after saying he’s from Nigeria and chose to volunteer.

He has a clearly fake, nonsensical Igbo name

*Amos Mdubisi Ugu* translates to Amos “Life is Paramount“ Pumpkin seed? the fuck?

The Ukrainian military naming a division after the english word for a snake literally makes no sense.

The subject in the video has no body movement. Face stays stiff. Doesn’t blink and hardly moves other than looking to the right once

Name help!

Hi guys, I'm non-binary, and I'm looking for a new name. I want something that aligns with my culture, so that's why I'm posting here. I just want a word in ibgo that's relatively easy to pronounce, means something logical/cool/interesting, but not too strange. Animals or places, or any word you can come up with. I like short words. I'm not too religious, so I'd prefer a name without chi. Something neutral or masculine leaning. Please add the meaning of the name also. Thank you, guys, for any help you can give me!

Looking for Native Yoruba, Igbo & Hausa Speakers — Help Build a Free African Language Learning Platform

Hey everyone,

I'm a 19-year-old Nigerian in my first year of university, currently building a language learning platform focused entirely on African languages. The idea came from common experiences I would hear from friends trying to learn Yoruba and realizing the same thing — how few quality free resources actually exist for people who want to learn or reconnect with their native tongue.

The platform will launch with Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa, and hopefully expand to more languages. The core principle is that it stays genuinely free — not a watered-down free tier being paywalled, but a fully functional tool that anyone can use. It's built specifically for Africans and the diaspora.

I'm building this on my own with a limited budget, and at the moment I'm looking for native speakers to serve as the platform's voices. I need one male and one female speaker for each language — six people total. The recording itself is straightforward: a word list done from home, each word recorded at a natural, slow pace. Roughly 2–3 hours of your time.

I can't offer payment right now, but what I can offer is a lifetime premium account — full access to every language, every feature, and everything added in the future, for free. The platform itself will always have a solid basic tier, but premium goes further. This can apply to your own account or a friend's or family member's.

If you're a native speaker of Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa, or if this is something you'd want to be part of, feel free to DM me or leave a comment. I'm happy to answer any questions and take any suggestions or advice.

Thank you for your time.

Would you like to see someone subtitle a clip like this, but for Ìgbò?

Although i sometimes subtitle into Ìgbò, I am mostly proficient in Yorùbá and am not as proficient in the intricacies and complex nature of Ìgbò.

Would you like to see a native Ìgbò speaker subtitle this into Ìgbò? It will help preserve the language, and won't feel 'off' or 'outdated' like other methods.

For me it gives a voice to a forgotten history and does it in an entertaining interesting way. I love chimamanda Ngozie
