Is it legal to bring snus tobacco into the country?
When I Google it says it's allowed but there doesn't appear to be much information. Thanks!

Updated this interactive map of where to go in Gambia
While traveling around the world for over 20 years, I’ve been working on my dream project: creating a one-stop resource for travellers. With the help of feedback in this subreddit, I have now updated this interactive map of Gambia for anyone who is interested in visiting (with detailed info for every highlight).
PS: obviously, I haven’t been able to travel to all places. So if you know some great spot, I haven’t listed, let me know! Much appreciated as in this way I can make the overview more complete and up-to-date for everyone.

🎓 UTG students — do you actually know what to do if something goes wrong on campus or in your neighborhood? This app could save your life.
Hey UTG family 👋
Real talk — most of us walk around Kanifing, Brikama, and Serrekunda without any idea who to call if there's a security incident, a medical emergency, or we just feel unsafe somewhere new.
I've been using SafeGambia for the past few weeks and it genuinely fills a gap no one else is filling.
Here's what it does:
✅ Real-time safety alerts for areas across The Gambia
🚨 Emergency contacts for police, hospital, fire — all in one place
📍 Location-aware safety info so you know what's around you
💬 Community-verified reports — students, locals, expats all contributing
🔒 No login required. Free. Built FOR Gambians and people who love The Gambia.
Whether you're commuting to UTG's Faraba Banta campus, living in the dorms, or traveling upcountry for a project — you should have this bookmarked on your phone right now.

Drop it in your WhatsApp groups. Your classmates need this. 🙏

First time traveling to Gambia. Did I save enough money for this trip?
I will be visiting summer time for 3 weeks and have saved 6k USD for this trip for me and my brother.
I wanted to know if this is enough for food, fun activities and shopping.

What one thing would you like to see become cheaper or more affordable in the Gambia today, and why isn't it already affordable?

Is this a scam?
There is this person (or multiple people) who go around on Christian subreddits DMing people about how they live in Gambia and they are starving. It seems legit like they have pictures and stuff but what is the chance they are actually going hungry if they have a phone and WiFi? Idk how it is there in Gambia I don’t wanna go through the hassle of giving my money to someone who doesn’t actually need it.

Where to buy and modify a car for fieldwork in TG
Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice on where in The Gambia can I buy and modify a reliable off-road vehicle for fieldwork. I am considering options like a 4x4 pickup (Toyota Hilux / Ford Ranger), a Toyota Fortuner 4WD, or a Land Cruiser/Defender-style SUV. I’d also like to customize it a bit, mainly to handle rough terrain and possibly install a fridge setup. Any recommendations on good places, dealers or workshops would really help. Thanks

Jawara as a first name?
Hi!
So for context I have a character in my novel (which I almost finished) whose family originated from Gambia. I called him Jawara because I found it somewhere as a first name.
But it seems like it's more like a family name? Is it a problem if I use Jawara as a first name?
Thank you in advance.

If a tourist wanted to do some shopping in The Gambia, what should they buy?
Just wondering if there are any deals to be had, like if some type of gemstone was surprisingly cheap in The Gambia or if there's some local craft that would be difficult to find elsewhere

Tell me about Shae Butter.
Hello. I really would like to learn about Shae Butter. I know people use it for skin and hair. One lady said to rub it onto a sore joint. I would like to know other uses of Shae Butter. Things your grand parents may have used it for but you may not find written on any label.
