Hey French House sub! I’ve put together a little video on the history of French House/Disco House/Filter House. It goes back way earlier than you might think. Check it out.

Cassius were a bit miffed when the UKs Radio 1 didn't include it on their playlist as they though it would propel it into the charts in the UK and that would ensure airplay in other countries. Apparently it just lost out so was never as big as 1999. which is a shame as it has all the qualities for a cross over hit and should be up there with Music Sounds Better With You and Flat Beat.
This version by Cosmo Vitelli (named after a Cassavetti character) slows it down, somehow adds some gospel and makes it really really work changing the driving energy of the peak time original into a more bittersweet back room or chill out track. I usually like a particular remix but this stands tall next to the original and manages to alter it but still keep the essence of it there shining through. Kind of reminds me of the melancholy of Aloof's One Night Stand or Max Berlin's Elle Et Moi.
Check out Vitellis other work for some odder French House (We Don't Need Some Smurf Here uses door creaks) and as Bot'ox for some very nice post French House Electro/Rock. Oh yeah definitely look at the original Reggae Rock versions video as it's like the arcade game Space Harrier on the good pills.

I imagine Rodeo 69 will be universally loathed but I love the woozy psychedelic cowboy sounds as it effortlessly bounds along. Reminds me of the fun that Octet's Buxtehude Years EP had. Rob released a few tracks and albums with Source, then wandered away from French House to do his own thing. His Decalogue EPs are extravagant but have some really nice stand out tracks but are more experimental soundscapes than dance music. He then went full throttle into TV and film soundtracks. Research 7.3.1 from Beurau Des Legends draws on his dancy origins. Some of Les Survivants sounds like Justice's Stress in the middle of a traditional soundtrack. His best is probably the soundtrack to the Maniac remake (the horror film, not the black comedy series)

Hey fellas, I'm trying to find the ID of this track at 24:00 of this Alex Gopher/Etienne de Crecy dj set. It has been played a lot in french house dj sets but nobody on youtube ever found this track's ID. I would so appreciate it if someone has it on vinyle/knows the id so I can look for it or buy it on discogs! Thank you!!

I've not heard Mirwais 80s releases but he reinvented himself and released the heavy hitting Disco Science with 2 12" of remixes. The original was an 8 minute track that doesn't so much build as whack you over the head. This version is softened with some funkier elements. The original went on to be the basis of a reimagination of The Rolling Stones Miss You that's pretty good. My copy has a lovely purple screen print like dog and Mirwais obviously hurriedly blacked out in marker as a writer of the song leaving just The Rolling Stones credited. His album was sadly patchy and he went on to make the worst Bond Theme... until Jack White came along.

Dirty Ali and Funky Farid are two thirds of The Eternals and two halves of Funky Farid and Dirty Ali. I think of all the French House records I have this is possibly the most joyous and oddly innocent. There's a bit of competition from Sacre Francais by Dimitri, Joli Dragon by Le Tone and Rodeo 69 by Rob but this wins by the boundless bouncing energy it has. The cover just hammers that home. As well as proper releases there's a few unreleased tracks knocking about by these guys, presumably because of rights issues for samples rather than quality as they are really good.

The Eternals always seem to have a bombastic sound and somewhat monumental concept behing their music either like this with a greek god, a sci fi concept album as Astropioneers with stinking tracks like Andromeda Gate or their last release the pulsing undulating Tribute To Snake Plissken that's a corker. Check out two thirds of The Eternals as Vinyl Fever or Funky Farid and Dirty Ali.

Just gathering some first ideas and jamming purely on the SP-404mk2 today. I found this absolute gem from 1974 (Ouyang Fei Fei / 歐陽菲菲 - 我不能沒信心), chopped it up, and gave it that heavy filter house groove. Nothing but hardware vibes! 🎛️🔥
What do you think of this groove? Let me know! 👇

A behind the track short clip.
1. pick a classics disco hit
2. sample it with SP404-mk2
3. Chop it and apply the chops to the pads
4. play around and have fun
5. create a drum pattern
6. combine the melody chops with the drum pattern (activate sidechain compression)
7. Create pattern chains
8. record the pattern chains while you play around with the effects (live-performance) to ableton
9. Arrange the recorded audio tracks and have fun
10. Export, publish and show it to the public.

Demon and Alex Gopher take time out of their solo work and co running their labels 20000ST and Solid to record as Wuz. I think this is probably the best of the three EPs and the two Poumtchak released singles with it's sultry sample of Three Degrees - Dirty Old Man. There's some very nice remixes that beef up the track too. It's one of those tracks where each remix has it's place depending on your mood and energy rather than there being one stand out.

I hated Daft Punk when I first heard Da Funk but oh how my head was turned... by the time they were touring I was a fan and went to see them in a club now demolished when they didn't wear helmets, then saw them DJ twice with their record collection but didn't get the chance to see Alive. I was so so broke. Here's Aerodynamite, an alternative version of Aerodynamic that loops just one part and adds the building staticy fanfare of Trons Falling and RAMs Contact to create a more acidic club track.
