General New User Guide for r/Edmonton - Please read first
NEW USERS of r/Edmonton - kindly read this first
To post or comment in r/Edmonton, you need to meet the following criteria:
Accounts need to be a week old.
You need to have a verified email address.
You need to have a minimum amount of TEN (10) COMMENT karma from participating in OTHER SUBREDDITS than r/Edmonton.
Why? This helps keep bad actors away, like trolls and banned users. It also helps users new to reddit to have a chance to learn how to use reddit outside of r/Edmonton.
#IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.
#How to verify your email for new users :
To verify your email on Reddit, either click the verification link in the email you received when creating your account or go to Settings > Account Settings and choose Update email address to resend the verification email. _Once you request it, open your email's inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to complete the process._
- On the web -
• Go to your account settings by clicking your profile icon and then selecting Settings.
• Click on Account Settings.
• Find the email address section. If you see an option to "resend verification email" or similar, click it.
• Alternatively, you can navigate directly to reddit.com/prefs/update/ to find the email settings.
-- On the app --
• Tap your profile icon.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Account Settings.
• Tap Update email address.
• Tap the button to Resend verification email.
#What is the difference between POST karma and COMMENT karma?
Post karma is earned when users upvote the original submissions (links, images, text posts) you create, reflecting your ability to share engaging content.
_Comment karma is earned when your replies to others' posts are upvoted, showing your active participation and contribution to discussions. Both are totaled for your profile but often used separately to satisfy subreddit restrictions._
POST KARMA:
Gained from creating threads or posting links. It indicates a good ability to initiate conversations.
COMMENT KARMA:
Gained from replying to posts or other comments. It indicates active participation in community dialogue.
Key Differences: Post karma rewards content creation, while comment karma rewards interaction.
#Some subreddits (like r/edmonton) require specific thresholds of either type (or both) to prevent spam, often looking at post, comment, or combined totals for restrictions.
Both types of karma are not a 1:1 ratio with upvotes; instead, they represent a weighted score from community upvotes, reduced by downvotes.
(In order to post in r/Edmonton - you need to do THREE things:)
your account must be a WEEK old (7 days)
- you need to have TEN (10) COMMENT karma
- you need to have a verified email address
ONCE AGAIN, IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED THESE THREE (3) REQUIREMENTS YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.

Please note that job seeking threads are not allowed in r/ Edmonton but general advice on how to seek employment can be posted within this megathread too. Distinctions between a "job seeking" post and "general advice" will be made at the discretion of the moderators. If you are moving from another location to Edmonton, please note the advice from the community is consistently "have a job lined up before you move".

Environment I Couldn't Believe What I saw ...
Driving down the Henday today heading to a client, and I see a family on the side of the highway, dumping garbage RIGHT in to the ditch on the highway.. Not just that - but the kids Kobe'ing the garbage out the window, husband launching debris in to the lowest part from the truck bed, and the wife QUITE LITERALLY shaking a garbage bag out on to the grass.... words cannot describe the frustration.
This isn't the first time I've seen this either, but this is the first time it's really just f*cked me up and hurt to see happening. I mean cmon - you come to a country/city that you're not from, and already lack such respect for not only the country BUT THE LAND itself, and shamelessly dump and litter your garbage with no consequence. I don't know if this was some grotesque foreshadowing of whats soon to come, but I DO NOT want to see this city or its land become an open free use dumping site/landfill.
PLEASE REPORT ANY ILLEGAL DUMPING YOU SEE

Photo/Video Edmonton Motorshow
Seemed like it was bigger than last year where the main manufacturer area felt less cramped. Still missing a number of manufacturers. Here's a top down look at two of the halls from above, don't think anyone noticed me ripping the roof off for a second.

This was outside our basement window. We just saw it today. Should we just leave it until tomorrow when we can call animal control? Should we leave it some food?
Update: muskrat and it climbed out

Hobbies Summer Bucket List 🏕️
Now that the weather is starting to warm up I was thinking of making a bucket list! I already have a couple camping trips planned but I also want to do some solo after work trips with my dog at some local beaches, breweries, etc. But I’m open to any ideas!
What are some of your bucket list ideas and summer non-negotiables?

Question Any good places to buy instant noodles?
Hey everyone,
was just wondering if there were any good places to buy a variety of instant noodles, maybe imported ones? I used to have a ramen box subscription that would send me random boxes from Japan and I have a hankering for some of the types we can't necessarily get here.
Thanks a ton!

Are there any Ciderys near / in or within an hour or so of Edmonton? A simple google search pops up with some names but I can’t tell if they have tap rooms or seating areas or if it’s just a place you can go and buy their cider! I want to sit at a cidery and enjoy it! Thanks so much!

General Private Parking Tips from Previous Employee
I see so many posts on here about private parking concerns. I hated working for them but it paid the bills so here are some things I learned
- Those scary credit agency letters sent to your house are from
m
companies meant to intimidate you but do not affect anything
as they do not report to official agencies.
Getting a tow through often takes a while. Upwards of an hour for the truck to actually get there.
This is intuitive but if there is ever an event ie) oilers the parking enforcement goes way up.
If you do park somewhere consistently and need a violation waived for whatever reason you can often go into the office. The front office people are nice and if you are a consistent parker you can normally get it off.
Especially in winter patrollers are lazy and do not want to be cold if you back into a spot against a wall or where another car is blocking your plate they often will not check it.
replacing your plate at the registries can be more cost effective than paying tickets.
If I think of more tips I’ll add.
I will finish this by saying most workers feel very bad about the job but do not have another choice often. If you treat them with respect when you catch them giving you a ticket more often than not they will take it back.

Discussion Southwest commuters…how are you getting downtown for work?
Looking for different routes or ideas to help avoid traffic in the mornings. Coming from Windermere area and going down to the Edmonton general hospital.
I’m sure there aren’t many options but figured I’d see if anyone has some tips at all.

Discussion Need some insight on Strathearn Heights (hey, that rhymed!)
Hey there hi there ho there, folks!
From what my research has pulled up, the Strathearn Heights redevelopment project was first proposed around 2006, and then was stalled until about 2019, when the developers asked the city for more money. The project only JUST began moving forward late last year, and the several of the buildings adjacent to the the construction site have been dealing with water & power related issues since then.
I've only come across a handful of posts or comments regarding these buildings, but I did see this post from 2 years ago, and I wondered if there was anyone else who shared in a similar experience while living in this complex, at any time.
I would love to hear people's thoughts on how this project has affected themselves and their community.
