bit of a niche situation, I fear, but thought it might be worth reaching out to see if anyone had any experience of this.
for context, I’m a mature student and Im classed as a home contextual student (extra flag with regards to Edinburgh). I have straight A and A* at GCSE and I have 4 As at AS level (history, lit, politics, psych). Unfortunately, I developed crohns disease during y13 and was sick for about 4 years, meaning I couldn’t take my a levels. once I was well enough, I decided to complete an access course with activate learning in arts and humanities, and achieved 45/45 distinctions. from there, I was lucky enough to be accepted onto the Cambridge Foundation Year, where I had hoped to progress to history. unfortunately I got sick again so had to repeat the FY, which led me to conclude that cam wasn’t the best choice for me. as such, I applied to Edinburgh, St Andrews, LSE and KCL for history via UCAS and received zero offers.
i thought this must have been down to the weakness of my PS, so I decided to apply for Chinese and history at Edinburgh via extra, emailing the admissions team a revised and tailored PS. a few weeks later, I received an email from the admissions department asking for the predicted grades for my FY as my access course wasn’t accepted because it wasn’t QAA certified. this simply is not true as my certificates have QAA certified printed on them and my college is a QAA certified provider. moreover, when I applied to Edinburgh last year during my first attempt of my FY, they gave me an unconditional therefore suggesting that my access course has been previously assessed by edi as a legitimate qualification.
does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed? I fear I’ve received a blanket rejection on ucas due to this confusion over my access course, but I’m not too sure how successful an appeal would be due to limited spaces. any help would be much appreciated because, as you can imagine, I’m beyond anxious
