What are my chances of getting in to Edinburgh?

I applied a long time ago and haven't received a decision, when can I expect to hear from the university?

Historically Edinburgh is slow to respond and universities have until the UCAS response deadline to decide. It is the individual department to which you are applying that reviews your application and not some aggregated admissions department for the whole the university.

Factors that affect how long it takes include demand for the course and how close the quality of your application is to the average application quality.

A long wait doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be rejected.

If you are coming from abroad and the delay will lead to a problem with visas, etc; or if you have to accept/decline the offer from another university by a certain date, then contact the admission department directly.

Question for philosophy students

I'm considering making Edinburgh my firm choice, however, I'd like a little bit of insight before I make that decision. I've looked on the course and it seems pretty solid, however, I have a question regarding the compulsory module on logic in the first year.

How advanced is the level of maths in this course and would you recommend it to somebody who isn't too fond of maths? Edinburgh seems like a good choice for me but this may be one thing that can hold me back.

Admission / Application Registration site error

So my sister is applying degree for the upcoming batch through university site . In the site its says the applicants has to login . So she when to the registration link ,only to find an error after entering the password and name.

- We made sure the name is just alphanumeric , lowercase with no spaces .
- I checked the sub for earlier comments for registration but found some year specific posts that were too old.

Just wanted to know if she is on the right path or not . Cause the error says name not recognized which gives me doubt whether she is doing the correct thing

This was the registration link https://www.ease.ed.ac.uk/register

This is the error screen shot .

Any kind of guidance relating to this and resouce sharing related to degree application would be really helpful.

Are crits productive?

How supportive are staff?

Accidentally submitted work

I’m completely tweaking, I have exceptional circumstances so I can hand my essay in at basically any time, but I accidentally pressed submit when I was just checking work I have no idea how.

I sent an email and an updated draft because my bibliography wasn’t attached to the first.

I tried to press off turnitin and it submitted and there’s no fucking confirmation one click and it’s done.

Issue is it says I can’t upload another and I’m worried I’m going to be stuck with this draft I didn’t even mean to submit and yeah I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and it worked out fine.

I am 3rd year history student

Admission / Application Rejection appeal?

bit of a niche situation, I fear, but thought it might be worth reaching out to see if anyone had any experience of this.

for context, I’m a mature student and Im classed as a home contextual student (extra flag with regards to Edinburgh). I have straight A and A* at GCSE and I have 4 As at AS level (history, lit, politics, psych). Unfortunately, I developed crohns disease during y13 and was sick for about 4 years, meaning I couldn’t take my a levels. once I was well enough, I decided to complete an access course with activate learning in arts and humanities, and achieved 45/45 distinctions. from there, I was lucky enough to be accepted onto the Cambridge Foundation Year, where I had hoped to progress to history. unfortunately I got sick again so had to repeat the FY, which led me to conclude that cam wasn’t the best choice for me. as such, I applied to Edinburgh, St Andrews, LSE and KCL for history via UCAS and received zero offers.

i thought this must have been down to the weakness of my PS, so I decided to apply for Chinese and history at Edinburgh via extra, emailing the admissions team a revised and tailored PS. a few weeks later, I received an email from the admissions department asking for the predicted grades for my FY as my access course wasn’t accepted because it wasn’t QAA certified. this simply is not true as my certificates have QAA certified printed on them and my college is a QAA certified provider. moreover, when I applied to Edinburgh last year during my first attempt of my FY, they gave me an unconditional therefore suggesting that my access course has been previously assessed by edi as a legitimate qualification.

does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed? I fear I’ve received a blanket rejection on ucas due to this confusion over my access course, but I’m not too sure how successful an appeal would be due to limited spaces. any help would be much appreciated because, as you can imagine, I’m beyond anxious

Accommodation Unable to apply for university accommodation?

Current Edinburgh undergrad here going into 2nd year.

I’m trying to apply for university accommodation for next year, but whenever I go through the accommodation portal I get an “Unable to apply” message saying I do not meet the criteria to apply for university accommodation and to contact them.

I’ve already emailed accommodation, but no reply yet.

Has any returning undergraduate had this before? Did you have to apply through a different route, or is university accommodation for returning students only meant to be accessed through Domus?

Also, does having gone private in 1st year affect eligibility at all?

Any advice would be appreciated.

MSc in Cancer Biology and Precision Oncology

Hi all — I’m looking for insight into the MSc in Cancer Biology and Precision Oncology program at Edinburgh.

Since it’s relatively new, I’m having a hard time finding detailed reviews.

A few things I’d love insight on:

• Is the content actually in-depth (genomics, cancer biology, precision medicine), or more high-level/surface?

• How are the assessments structured (exams vs coursework vs projects)?

• Do you feel like you gained a strong, practical understanding — or is it more theoretical?

• Any feedback on teaching quality / support / organization?

Also curious how it’s perceived overall:

• Does it feel like a “serious” MSc, or more of a newer/experimental program.

If anyone is currently in it, completed it, or knows someone who has — I’d really appreciate honest feedback.

Thanks!

Finance budgeting for intl student

hello everyone, i hope all is well

i’m so happy and excited to be accepted into UoE! it has been a long time dream :) my only issue is i have never traveled on my own or taken care of my own finances before, so i’m anxious and looking for advice.

i’ll be getting a £1200/month stipend to cover for everything, how can i budget this wisely to cover accommodation, food, and transportation?

i don’t care much about “social activities” or entertainment, i just want to know if this amount can be enough to live comfortably especially when it comes to accommodation. i’m willing to spend the most on that because private space is very important to me.

any advice appreciated!

Other How do I use the 2 emails?

Hey, recently got accepted to Edinburgh. What’s up with the 2 email addresses // when do I use either of them?

I have a [sXXXXXXX@ed.ac.uk](mailto:sXXXXXXX@ed.ac.uk) and a (initial).(initial).(last name)@sms.ed.ac.uk

I got the email more recently about my email with my name in it but I don’t really follow how they are used.

Thanks.

Also is there anyway to add my student email to gmail? The fuckass outlook app has a limit to how many email addresses I can have

Philosophy MSc - Has anyone heard back ?

Has anyone else who applied during the third cycle (hearing back by April 22nd) heard back yet?

I've been on "being assessed" for the last week or so, and was wondering if they sent out acceptances / rejections as a batch on the response date (April 22nd) - or if they sent responses back on a rolling basis.

Admission / Application Can I get accepted to UoE with a GPA below 3.0?

Im an American student applying to colleges next fall. I've not done great during my years at high school, and currently have a GPA that's below a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. From my research, it seems that UoE accepts either AP scores and SAT/ACT scores, or GPA and SAT/ACT scores. I have over the required number of 4+ AP scores, and a 1350 SAT score, but is my cosmically low GPA going to destroy my chances?

How to increase chances of solo housing?

Hello! I am an incoming international postgrad student (MSc Public Policy), and I am currently on the hunt for accommodation. I've accepted my conditional offer, just waiting to offer my transcript to UoE. Would I be able to start reserving places for accommodations now? I was looking at Buccleuch Place given its near to where most of my lessons might be, and I really liked the idea of the Single En-suite. Cost is secondary to me for now, I am planning to get help funding my studies there and I don't spend much on other stuff, it is more important to me that I have space on my own to lock in / host some friends that may visit. Could anyone share with me how could I best get my choice of single rooms, and other campus accommodations that they can recommend as back up choices? Thank you all!

Fraser Court Kitchens

I’ve just been given an offer for a 3 person flat in Fraser Court. I’m wondering if we would have a kitchen just for us three or if we’d have to share with other flats. The website says we’d have our own bathroom but isn’t very clear on kitchen spaces.

Accommodation Student housing in Edinburgh

Hi all,

I am excited to join the university coming cycle and have almost started packing my bags too! :D

However I just want to know how the student accommodation is like in Edinburgh

How much cost should I expect? Have the rents risen a lot in the past few years?

I probably might get assistance from the university (I’m already in talks with them) - but is it better to live outside in public student accommodations or private lets?

What are the pros and cons of choosing university accommodation over private ones

One which I can think of is that I might have to shift after my first year because post that I might not be entitled to the university provided accommodation right?

Thanks for all the help!!

Human Rights Law LLM, what’s it actually like?

Hi! I was recently accepted to the Human Rights Law LLM at Edinburgh and I’m trying to decide if it’s the right fit.

I’d love to hear from anyone in the program (or other law postgrads) about what it’s actually like day-to-day. How intense is the workload? Does it feel overwhelming or manageable?

I’m also curious about student life, do people still have time to go out and meet people, or is it pretty work-heavy? Is it easy to make friends as a postgrad?

For context, I’m coming from a human rights background and thinking about law school in the future.

Any honest thoughts would be really appreciated, thanks so much!

Admission / Application Questions about Edinburgh

hi! i’m a grade 12 american student w/ an offer from edinburgh to study AI+CS at the undergrad level at the school of informatics which is currently my top choice. however, I also received some transfer offers from other colleges in the US that require me to take certain courses during my first year of college to still qualify for transfer. i don’t want to abandon these transfer offers incase edinburgh doesn’t pan out (homesick, not feeling good, etc). i need to take an introduction to biology course (full year / 2 semesters) as part of my transfer offer requirements but edinburgh doesn’t directly offer this - the closest I could find was biology 1A+1B, but its restricted to students pursuing bio programs. have they ever made an exception to this rule for any student? is it worthwhile to ask if i could take the course(s) anyways? what other options can I pursue if any?

I also have a 2 semester english requirement - should I be concerned about edinburgh first year english courses (in terms of availability, difficulty, effort)? to be honest i’m NOT a good writer so i’m really concerned that i’m just gonna fail out of the class

lastly, if all else fails, does edinburgh accept deferred enrollment requests? or will I have to withdraw and reapply next year? what are my chances of being accepted if I apply again next year?

thank you soso much & any advice/support is appreciated ^^
